It always depends on how and what you critisise. Everybody has the right to not like someone's acting and/or face or the plot of a drama. That's what I would consider a legitimate point of view. If people start throwing insults or cannot separate the actor (especially one playing the villain) from the role or post the same negative comments every day, that's no longer just a point of view. Producers should focus on acting capabilities of the actors instead of catering to the fan-girls of some popular pretty boys, though. Otherwise the quality of dramas will just go downhill very fast...
It takes time to develop... In he first few episodes you have an annoyingly childish FL and a stoic ML who barely speaks. There are some interesting side characters to keep you interested, though. The FL/ML interacting It gets better from episode 13 onwards and then quickly becomes very dramatic.
That's his role in it, perhaps he's just not your type of an actor. For me, he's one of the best chinese actors…
I agree, he is also one of the most underrated actors. Sadly due to the way the role is written in these first few episodes we don't get to see any of this acting prowess which is disappointing. I guess/hope he will make up for it in some of the later episodes.

I'd say there are some very very remote similarities... in that the FL has a demonic part and the ML as "god of war" for the immortal clan had to kill her. Otherwise, the setting, characters and relationships are quite different. In L&D the suffering of the FL/ML mainly came from a series of misunderstandings whereas in this one it comes from circumstances.

There wasn't much he could have done to help his friend after he became possessed by the sword. It all comes down to the philosophical point of view that everyone has their own destiny and there is only so much you can do for a person who as gone down the wrong path. Some people can't be helped until they actually hit rock-bottom.

Having seen how much his friend Chu Bufu suffered after becoming a demon he probably didn't want his disciple suffer the same fate after she fell under the influence of the sword. I think when actors don't admit they have a girlfriend it's not just that they don't want to upset certain fan-girls (I guess the majority of us couldn't care less...) but it is also to protect the woman from the extra scrutiny and harassment that inevitable follows such a revelation.
