Using his own voice and going the extra mile to spent time on the dubbing is something that I immensely appreciate…
I think it’s him…it’s a beautiful song in any case.

I fully agree with you. I’ve had many gay friends long before it became fashionable, but I don’t need this forced wokeness shoved into my face in every show that I watch. True equality will be when we no longer need to make a song and dance about it.
Also, as Freud already said, sometimes a chair is just a chair. Not every bit of camaraderie between guys is of a sexual nature. I find it very strange that the tiniest bit of closeness between men is over interpreted whereas nobody would suggest the same if it were between two women…

Come on, MDL, what’s going on with the rating?
This really confirms my theory that on MDL lack of pretty boys is a much greater offence than lack of plot or acting skills.

Am I the only one who keeps falling asleep while watching this drama? It has never happened to me before no matter…
Maybe you’re just tired. If you’re relying on subtitles it’s easy to fall asleep if there’s a
lot to read. Or this drama just isn’t your thing.
It happened to me during the Mysterious Lotus Tower. It doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a bad drama…

I think you will like his role in Love of Nirvana then. I wouldn’t call it morally grey, but very conflicted and tragic. I really liked this character when I read the novel and I hope that the drama will stay somewhat true to the novel.
The problem with the romantic leads is that they usually have been sanitized too much and then feel bland and boring. Such characters don’t offer many opportunities for showing some acting range, so it’s no wonder that there is an abundance of pretty boys in these roles.
The Lu Shiyan in the novel can be quite manipulative and vicious, but I’m sure we’re not getting to see any of this.

the ML looks more like a villain than a protagonist
A good actor can play both villains and protagonists without any need for a face transplant. Jeremy has proven many times that he can play a variety of roles and I think that he is quite suitable for this one as the ML isn’t supposed to be some green romantic boy, but a stern and cold official of the Supreme Court.
Also, some viewers like men, not boys as romantic leads.

Yes, I agree. I don’t mind if they have to change some things, but I hate it when they mess up a good novel.…
Haha, no such problem here. My brain is already messed up with too many languages jumbling around in it. 😂
I usually use Yandex for translating the whole text as a block and then I use a translation app for the sentences that don’t make any sense.
After a while it becomes easier because you get used to a lot o& expressions that the machine comes up with and know what they are supposed to mean. Yabla is quite a good tool for all these darn idioms.
But there are always a few bits that just cannot be deciphered with any tool…

Out of curiosity, why do they feel the need to dub him? Is it because of time restraints? Or is it like with Wallace…
Haha, so we can expect a reply maybe some time in the next decade when he checks his messages again 😂😂😂
He is so laid back when it comes to his social media that it is almost annoying, but in times where so many would-be stars fall over themselves for attention and are desperate enough to even buy it, I find his attitude rather refreshing and commendable.

Dubbing is boring and hard work. My theory is that he just cannot be bothered to do it and he can afford to pay someone else to do it.
His accent and line delivery I are just fine, both in ancient (The Autumn Ballad) and modern (Trace) settings.
He and the production teams behind these dramas don’t seem to realise how much pull using his real voice would have. I’ve rarely seen any of his Chinese fans comment on the voice so maybe it sounds more attractive to international viewers…

Yes, the original translator stopped after ch. 51 which is a real shame. Someone posted under ‘recent discussions’ that there is a new translator on Novel Updates. I had a quick look and saw that for some idiotic reason (ego?) this person started again from the beginning. I’ve seen this translator ditch novels mid-way without warning so I have zero faith that we will make it to the end.
I have started with my own translation just for myself which is MTL with some edits, but there are sentences where I can’t really work out the meaning because I don’t know Chinese and the machine just gives me nonsense. Also, because I’m editing while I’m reading it’s going rather slow and I’m only on ch. 60.

Yes, the 2nd season has already be filmed. I guess it’s one of those dramas where they had to cut it into two parts because of the new rules limiting th3 number of episodes.

Does this drama have wuxia scenes?
Yes, it has some really good fight scenes with the ML. If you like old-fashioned Wuxia without CGI you will enjoy them.

That summary doesn’t seem quite accurate (unless they made considerable changes to the novel). Shen Ran (the 2nd Shen daughter) is already married so no longer part of Marquis Yunyang’s household.
The two who end up on the streets are Shen Zhen and her little brother.

It’s in the dream he has in chapter 51.

Here is a copy of the passage (I’ve edited out some of the juicier parts):

When he had seen her in a wedding dress, seated in front of him like a shy bride, he had moved forward like a famished beast and kissed her madly. Fascinated, his resolve. broken, his desire whipping him like a cruel master, he had finally let himself drown in the fragrance that emanated from the crook of her neck.

He had wanted her.

….

…. He had believed her to have felt pain. It had been her first time after all. However, he had been wrong. Her tears never stopped, from night to morning. The moonlight dissipating into dawn, he had turned her face and asked the most humiliating question of his short life, he who had never suffered the smallest slight, he who had seen numerous women desperate to catch his eye.

“Was it because of Shen Hong?”

She had not answered him, only thanking him repeatedly. Every mark of gratitude had cruelly stabbed, not Lu Yan’s heart, but his self-esteem. He had known at a glance that she had not been willing.

Yes, I watched Stange Tales and I loved it. The dynamic between the two leads takes some time to develop, but it’s worth the wait.
I tried reading the novel behind TTEOTM but the translation was dreadful and the two of them were torturing each other even worse. I just dropped it. I want entertainment from the novels I read, not misery porn.
