I don’t know why everyone clamors about lack of eye-candy. I cam here for Qiao Zhen Yu and he is fine enough for me. Luckily I appreciate a good villain if the acting top.

Tastes are different, but I think QZY is actually quite handsome (just look at his profile photo). However, conforming to C-drama standards, as the villain he is styled in a way that makes him look less handsome.

I hope so! A villain who manipulates women by pretending to be a nice guy is not that complex in my books. I’ve seen him in Swords of Legends and that was a really complex role where at times you hated the guy and at times you felt sorry for him. I know what he can do and really want him to have the opportunity to show us some range.

It the same people who judge the quality of a drama based on the looks (and the age) of the male leads.

Well, it’s a classic “dirty old man misleading young girls” setting, but I wonder if it’s really that simple. It would be a waste of Qiao Zhen Yu’s acting skills. He is really good in complex roles….

What’s wrong with the duration of this series? On the right hand panel it says 1 hr 10 min, but the episodes are actually around 40 min each.

So far I’ve watched two episodes and I cannot say that I find it overly gloomy, but then again, I’m quite fond of revenge plots (if they’re done right). I love Janice Wu as the scheming, cold-faced revenge angel. That arrogant facial expression looks very natural on her!
Initially I came here for Qiao Zhen Yu and I’m happy to see that he doesn’t disappoint as the smarmy villain. I’m just not sure if things are really as simple as they appear…

I love the details on all the costumes. The embroidery on AR’s blue tunic is absolutely gorgeous! Why do I get the feeling that the boys have better clothes than the girls in this one?

Oh, this has Qiao Zhen Yu 8n it! I haven’t seen him in anything since Sword of Legends, so I will definitely check this out. The story doesn’t really sound like something that I would watch, but maybe, like so often, the drama is nothing like the synopsis 😂

Sort of… the SML likes the FL, but it is rather one-sided. Romance isn’t the main focus of the novel. I’m more than halfway through and so far there hasn’t been any. Definitely a very, very slow burn 🔥
I guess we will get a lot more awesome fight scenes than romantic scenes, which is fine by me.

It apppears that they’re filming the battle scenes at the moment. Even though it is no longer as hot as during summer, that’s still a lot of clothes to wear for this time of year…

It’s wuxia with some slightly super-natural martial arts skills. I’m curious to see how they will be presented in the drama. I hope they keep it minimalist.
There should be some awesome fighting scenes in this, especially those between the two male leads.

He may not be as pretty as some of the idol-boys out there, but he has a none-negligible advantage for an actor: he can actually act!
Personally, I’d rather watch an average guy doing some great acting, than looking at some poster boy with the charisma of a cardboard cut-out for 40 long episodes.

Absolutely! There is something on MDL that I call the “pretty-boy factor”. No matter how idiotic the story or how shitty the acting, it will get the drama a rating above 8. Sadly, some really good dramas with grown up actors get down-rated by hysterical teens calling 30-something actors/actresses old and wrinkly.

Yes, making up stuff to make a story is literally the job description for every author or script-writer 😂
If you have a problem with that, go and watch a documentary.

That works for any drama, whether it finished airing or not. It’s one of the problems with the MDL website, things that shouldn’t be possible still are technically possible (and are abused by some people). Like rating episodes that haven’t aired yet, or marking a drama as ‘completed’ while it is still ongoing.
