Unfortunately the whole following up scene got cut. Maybe someone who read the book can fill us both in.
Yeah, I absolutely loved this drama overall, but if I had to nitpick, there were quite a few holes scattered throughout. Some scenes felt missing, and at times things just happened out of nowhere in a way that felt off or confusing. For example, the way the FL met SanlaiāI genuinely didnāt know who he was at first because he just appeared with no proper introduction. I imagine itās much easier to follow if youāve read the webnovel, but for someone like me who hasnāt, certain moments were definitely harder to grasp š
Can someone explain how long they've been separated? It said "3 years later" but then she mentioned 6…
Yeah, the timeline is definitely messy. From what I can piece together, itās roughly a bit less than 6 years totalāgive or take. And honestly, with dramas, itās almost never exact. I remember the date on the FLās boarding pass being in 2020, and then their reunion happens in May 2024, so already the math isnāt mathing (or maybe editors didn't think we'd be that focused on these things): based on this alone, it shoul've been 4 not 6 but anyways. Iāve kind of learned to stop caring too much about it.The first three years seem to cover his recovery and her moving to and adapting to life in Canada. But even then, they donāt clearly show how much time is passingājust scattered moments here and there. Then the other three years are basically skipped entirely, with zero elaboration. After their second reunion, the timeline gets even wilder. Sheās 26 at the start, and in the final episodeāwhen he proposesāhe says, āWe first got together when you were 20, and now eight years have already passed.ā But at the same time, she mentions theyāve only been together for a few months since reuniting. The ML even implies itās been around two months during his āguy talkā with Sanlai (I think in episode 27). So again⦠it doesnāt really line up. Either the writers didnāt pay close attention to details, or weāre just not supposed to think about it too hard.If I try to make it make sense, Iād assume maybe a year passed after they reunitedāsince obviously theyāre not showing every single day. Maybe it took them one or two months to get back together, then they dated for a few more months before getting married. But I genuinely donāt know where two extra years would fit into that, aside from the presumed six years of separation. The age gap is another thing that wasnāt clearly specified. It didnāt bother me much, but sometimes it felt small, and other times it felt more than four years. According to the webnovel, heās actually five years older than her, which explains the inconsistency a bit. Maybe people whoāve read the novel can shed more light on the timeline because⦠yeah. There's this thing too: how obvious it feels that a lot was cutāsome things just happen out of nowhere so maybe it all got messed up so the timeline doesn't make sense anymore. Editing's fault.
Btw they didn't elaborate on the "inside" joke or whatever they we re talking about at the end of ep 27 when Jin Zhao was in the tub and Jiang Mu told him to confess about being accompanied abroad by someone else too (presumably a woman?) other than Sanlai and Crazy. Does anyone know what that might've implied? Were the subs not good enough or they just left us at that cuz I was confused XD. Might've just been Sanlai messing with her and Jing Zhao went along with him just to rile her up.
I m crying this was so freaking beautiful and surprisingly pretty intense? C-Dramas are getting more and more brave with some scenes haha. But I'm happy I'm finishing this year with such a beautiful drama.
The novel from what I've heard, has a HE, like they both marry and she becomes the empress etc. But I've also heard the drama won't follow the novel precisely. At least let's hope the ending will still be a happy one :')
Seriously the best fantasy c-drama I've ever watched. I have no idea what could beat this one. Not even WDBTD, nor LOS, nor LBFAD like seriously. Even after nitpicking everything and I can't find one thing that was bad for me.
