I personnally find it pretty boring, badly directed, badly lit, and badly written. The lighting makes even pretty landscapes look bad, and is cold and very hard. The editing is dreadful: it keeps fading to black and then picking up somewhere completely different. The CGI is bad, but that's nothing new in Cdramaland.
It's still pretty entertaining when you get to the actual action and when ML pulls off something great, but the rest is pretty boring imo.
Do keep in mind that I might be biased because I've seen 3 seasons of the donghua already so I'm not watching this with a fresh eye.
This is my personal opinion, though, and I'm somewhat picky, so yours might be different, though. Anyone who attacks me for it will be blocked with extreme prejudice. It's perfectly fine if you enjoy it.
From 2 main roles to 5 main roles. Now even Mo’s Daughter become main role.
Yes, I was confused by this as well: I don't remember her being present beyond this arc in the donghua. I also don't remember any sisters or so many wives?
Qin Xiang can't catch a break. lol. Is she gonna go on a complete evil tear later b/c she keeps getting in trouble?
I'm not sure she has either the brains or the ability to become a true nuisance, tbh. Plus, she's made sure she had zero support from anyone with her attitude, so...
They are blind as a bat if they look at her, and think she is a man. This happens a lot in C- and K-dramas.
I think the award for that goes to the people in Novoland: Pearl Eclipse, and the way the story revealed her gender made them all look even stupider than they already did.
Glad she came to her senses, not hanging around that bad influence of a sister Qin Xian 👍🤗
I'm glad about that, but... what about Fu Ling and Bai Feng? Do they survive? Do they get their HEA? I'm scared for them, recent dramas LOVE to kill off the leads' loyal servants...
Just wanted to let you know I found your review endlessly entertaining. I tend to stay away from this type of drama (and Bai Lu's, since she seems to have a type) because I know it's going to go this way. Thank you for this wonderful review, and confirming that I made the right choice.
ikr the hate train on Jisoo is too terrific, they are even body shaming her.
Yes, the actors aren't the problem here, even if I don't agree with most of the casting choices. But Lee Min Ho looks like he's sleepwalking in the trailer, and the whole thing looks cheap and just bad all around. The posters on their own are a huge red flag, that's how terrible they look.
Casting BWS is cool and all, but do they even have the budget for this? Ashfall wasn't that heavy in CGI
Netflix has money. The quality of their writers, on the other end... Plus, SL would have to be super CGI-heavy, so even with a lot of money, chances are it'll come out looking pretty bad.
It was fine when it was just a manhwa, but at this point, Netflix is turning it into a cash grab, trying to squeeze…
For real, I'm so tired of seeing it everywhere as if it's the be-all, end-all of all things webtoon and anime. It's a good read, but nowhere near as perfect as everybody's making it out to be. And an(other) adaptation? ORV already looks beyond terrible, chances are this one isn't going to be any better.
