It is a reference to a poem by Lü Dongbin, a Daoist scholar. Where he had a dream and lived out his entire life until he died, and when he woke up, his Millet was done cooking.
You aren't just in an illusion; you actually live out your entire life as a what-if. This is very important, cause this affects Ji Tong Zhou the most!
