tbf it's not exactly xianxia either. it fits more the wuxia with fantasy setting. it's missing major stuff that…
Xianxia is a newer term than Wuxia... And was considered a subgenre of Wuxia. Cause themes found in Wuxia are also found in Xianxia, cause again they are based on real-life things... I.E Confucianism, Daoism, and Chinese Myth.
In the novel, you actually meet Chiwen's brother... π cause most of these stories use Chinese mythology for worldbuilding, like VoS and many others.
But yes, people have used Magic/No Magic to divide Wuxia and Xianxia. But they are just label
There are some awful miscastings, the FL is supposed to be a slave general, yet she looks way too young due to…
She was even younger... she was 16 when this was film... So it really limited the script. Her as Chu Qiao wasn't that bad all thing consider what Chu Qiao was like the novel... but yeah if she was older would have help
wait! one question I never got answered though, now that I think about it again, is how LWY and JL knew each other?…
When she meet puppet JL for the first time ? that was never explain. But maybe cause he was a puppet so it didnt fully work ? Another thing is depend on the timeline he could still had Xiaowei power in the ring.
Out of all the shows you mention, Generation to Generation would be the closest.... funny enough, Shao Si Han,…
There is no way to tell which 7-episode worth was cut; my assumption is that they most likely cut the other support characters' stories.
The novel pretty much starts the way episode 1 does. So there isn't anymore before that. So they have to make it up if there was an episode for it. JLF was 11, and LXY was 12 when they were at the academy in the novel. Of course, they aren't that age in the drama.
I want to know am I the only one who find it a bit boring don't get me wrong I was super excited for this show…
Out of all the shows you mention, Generation to Generation would be the closest.... funny enough, Shao Si Han, who was the main screenwriter for Generation to Generation, is also involved in this one.
Just to give you some context, the core story that this was based on is a coming-of-age/discovery... It follows the 2 Lead, as they grow up, literally, they go from young teen to adult. Most of the time, you look at everything through the lens of Jiang Li Fei.
Most of the action/conflict doesn't happen later in the story. This does follow the escalating conflict into a world-ending disaster, which most xianxia stories follow.
Now for the drama, it's taking the same story but moving a lot of stuff up and focusing on the romance much earlier. At this point, they already tease the viewer with enough clues as to who their secret identity are. I understand the decision to do so, but this does decrease that mysterious factor to me, at least.
For example, The First Jasmine does this pretty well, you know something wrong with the FL there. But you kinda wanna keep watching to learn wtf happen at Lishan and why she likes this. Even though there's a clue along the way, you kinda already can guess it.
In ep3, Tongzhou is a good person? But why is he interested in FL? Is he attracted to her? Or just he want to…
Doesn't look like the drama will explain it yet, but Chongyi from the drama setup, it seems like they are going to draw a stronger connection between him and FL's old master. Probably why they decided to age and change Chonyi's character.
However, in the novel, they explain it. Chonyi, even among all the peak masters, was unique or maybe quirky. His specialty was sensing spiritual energy. When he met FL for the first time, he recognized her special constitution right away.
Drama ending time and reading reviews are such interesting ways to get into viewers' minds.
The Rating 1-10 is meaningless at the time. But reading what they wrote as the reason is always fascinating.
Some reviews always focus just on the FL, without mentioning the ML, and only on the ML, without mentioning the FL as a focus.
These types of reviews always make me chuckle, as I imagine them literally just watching when their characters are on the screen and fast-forwarding through everything.
Just an observation that I find humorous... of course, there are still people who do a detailed review, breaking down everything.
i am curious, how does this drama end? spoil me a little
At times, it can seem openeded. But the drama ended with Old Zhuge Yue and Old Yan Xun staring at each other on the ice field. Then we see a younger version of themself now, including Chu Qiao. Most likely trying to draw back to the time of the ice field scene at the end of PA and the start of Rebirth.
Personally, I don't care for the ending, and the novel ending was better.

GPT love using this kind of language when you ask it to create stuff when it come to writing and asking it why it would work.
