To sum it up it basically the ideal of transcending what it mean to be a mortal. I.E to become an Immortal.
The Ultimate Goal of immortal cultivation is to become one with the Dao. The Term Xian in Xianxia literally translates to "Immortal." Immortal in a Daosim sense is literally just someone who surpasses what it means to be mortal through Cultivation.
In this drama specifically, to be able to cultivated you need to have an affinity for it. I.E Spirit Roots. Which is rare, what even rarer is people who have a Singular type of Spirit Root I.E Fire or Mental or any of the 5 Chinese element ( Fire, Metal, Wood, Water and Earth.)
For the novel, there is the Immortal Sect. I don't know if it has been revealed in the Drama yet, but most of the mortal kingdom is backed by an Immortal Sect. That's why the prince is here at the academy to learn. The academy is basically a way for the Immortal Sect to select and nurture top-tier talent. As you will see later in the drama, all of these mortal kingdoms backed by the immortal sect want to dominate and gain power. The immortals are doing it to gain more power to advance more in cultivation.
There are some differences in the characterization of both ML and FL at the start... but overall, it is sticking…
Well one of the biggest change like I say was there age, when we first meet the ML, he wasn't already this mysterious character.
And NOT trying to kill the Female lead to save Shanhua life. Mainly cause Shanhua already dead.
As for the FL, she definitely pretty close to how she is in the drama. But definitely stronger.
For instance, when they test for spirit root, she actually like the other a rare single earth root that once in a once in a 1000 year. It was later adjust to hide her special constitution by the academy leader. But they just skip all of that.
Most of the different with her mainly come down to what was adjust to the ML character and their interaction. Because them bickering and acting like that is pretty close to after they enter the academy.
So you can say that they just speed it up to before entering the academy.
