If he like her for 10 years it must be very serious, it's not easy to hold on to a childhood crush, but he was able to hold on to such feeling for an older woman who is his sister's bestfriend. I think the brother is kind of quiet and shy, so he must not have a big social circle as a result i can see how he could fall in love with his sister's bestfriend especially if she's nice to him and gave him lots of attention. This type of love story kind of reminded me of a drama starred zhao lusi and chen zhezhuan that was aired recently and got very popular, i didn't watch it but i saw avenue x talked about it in her reviewed of the drama, and it's the same type of love story but the different is fl fell in love with her brother's bestfiiend at a very young age, and she holds the flame for him until she became older.

She sees him as a brother before he confessed to her, so she's a bit shocked after the confession, so their awkwardness is realistic. The best friend is youthful so i don't see anything wrong with their dating as the brother is mature for his age. However i don't feel their chemistry other than sibling, maybe that will change after seeing them becoming a couple.

Does anyone understand what grandma means when she said she brought yzm into the mai family? I feel grandma did it purposely when she invited mch parents to live in her western house and then she will the house to yzm, it's almost like she's asking them to take care of him in her place. At least that how the mother is thinking, because she think she has a purpose to live there, to keep yzm from being lonely. For some reason i find the mother is really entertaining with all her antics, she is the type to not know how to keep a secret, now that she comes into good fortune she's announcing her good fortune to everyone she knows, even the husband can't help laughing. What does he dong means when he said yzm was going to confess to mch, is he saying what i'm thinking that yzm was going to confess to mch about his feeling? I kind of feel bad for yzm because he didn't get the hotel he wanted from grandma, but i kind of understand why grandma didn't give it to him, yzm came back for the hotel, but if he got the hotel then he would've gotten what he wanted and leave the country and go back to headquarter for his promotion and leave the hotel to some outsider care, that's what grandma is afraid of. Grandma wants him to stay in china and want him to find more meaning in life rather than just profit and promotion.

The mother wanting to be of help to her daughter, so she decides to question the hotel chef is kind of funny, i think she has a point, the dish made for older people should be adjusted compare to younger people, i think that chef should loosen up a little and experienced with the menus like mch mother suggested.

I don't hate the mom, i think she has gone too far managing her daughter life, but i think she's from the older generation and she kind of represent a typical asian parent who always think they're right and can't take any criticism. In asian society, filial piety is a big part of a family life, so this drama is not far from reality. Also it's an interesting dynamic as we're seeing the mother as the head of the household rather than the husband as a result she has the final say in a lot of decision making rather than the dad, and the dad just goes along with whatever she says. Also it's typical that the parents are more worry for the daughter than the son, the son seems to have more freedom and independent than his older sister. I think this reflect the different treatment between males and females in a typical asian household.

I don't know how i feel about mch's brother and best friend, but i got to say they've a very good understanding of each other. That ex-husband of mao is such a creep, copying her design and now sueing her to keep his reputation because he's afraid of being exposed that he was using his wife's design.

Grandma talks to yzm about the hotel, and told him she values her staffs over money, and she's telling yzm she consider her staffs as family just like him. For yzm to give up on xianli for grandma health shows he truly loves his grandma, and grandma also notices the change and told him he has a human touch, i'm assuming she meant he's not as cold hearted as he showed outwardly. Is her talk with him means she finally decides who she wants to leave the hotel to, since at the end of ep 18 looks like she was finalizing her will.

From the way mch buying cheongsam for grandma, shows how much she understood grandma compares to yzm. From watching up to this point, it's can be seen that mch and grandma have a deep bond and it's the highlight of this drama compare to the mother daughter relationship that was said in the synopsis.

When grandma talks to mch about being independent but also asking for help when needed is very good advice. Grandma has such good wisdom and understanding about family and individual's freedom. She is such a graceful lady, yzm said she is his only family showing he truly cares for her.

I think for yzm character as xukai is closer to this character, he would understood this character more than you and i. Before i watched this drama, i read an interview of xukai and he talk about his character yzm in best choice ever and i thought it was really interesting when he said yzm is the type of person who could use anyone for gains even the female lead, and he's only wearing a mask to protect himself from getting hurt. From his interview i can tell xukai has studied this character, and he shape this character as how he understands him and in another interview in a fan meeting he was ask about how the character was, he said he could've play this character colder in order to show his change later on. So there's a conscious effort of xukai to understand the character and play him as how he see this character inner struggle. For me yzm coldness is only a facade to protect himself, and the warm he showed to grandma and mzh are true because they both are the two people who he got the closest to.

Not sure why mch and yzm's dynamic has anything to do with the break up with xjl, mch and yzm got involved together because of their care for grandma, and mch even told yzm she saw him as family, i think she was the first to see him as family when yzm has been abandon by his own parents, so their relationship started from being boss/employee to become relative. As the ep i'm watching, mch even called yzm as her brother, so not understanding what do you mean when you said their dynamic changing too fast, when they're still not even acknowledge having any feeling for each other beside being related to grandma.

I got spoiled about grandma dead, and i'm sad for both yzm and mch. Grandma is such a positive influence on the both of them, and i think she is shipping them together with the way she always smile when they're both fighting with each other. It looks like lady zhang visit caused grandma to have a heart attack because she made known about her deal with yzm that grandma said she didn't know about. What did lady zhang did for yzm that she kept pressuring him about their deal.

The grandma is close to fl because when fl was a kid and gotten sick, grandma paid for her treatment. The parents then let mch spend time with grandma and visit her often since grandma is all alone as thanks for her helped. The dad on the other hand never got along with grandma because his dad married later in life and they don't spend time together as a family. The mother have to force him to go see grandma when mch broke up with her ex-boyfriend to ask grandma to comfort mch since they couldn't help her. I think the grandma and fl have a close relationship because fl have spend lots of times with grandma over the years. Grandma told fl to be independent because fl is still living at home and she's letting her mother make decision for her and not pushing for boundary. Ml on the other hand has never have a family of his own, all he cares about is interests and promotion because he never experienced the warm of family, even his relationship with grandma only started to become warmer after he came back from abroad, before that they only communicated through letters.

I like his voice so i think he did well with voicing his character. Also xukai has many good dramas beside yanzi palace.

They're actors and they're acting. Also yangzi character is a very blessed woman who has both her parents, brother and grandma around her to give her a good support so she was able to become such a sensible woman. Xukai character on the other hand has a hard childhood, he loss his mother since young, his father went to jail, his grandparents got divorce and he live abroad and just came back from oversea. Their characters have different upbringing. Not sure why you think he's not immersing in his character when he's acting exactly as how i would imagine such type of character would act. Also they were not just boss-employee, they also had grandma as a bridge to bring them closer. It's not like they automatically thinking about dating each other, but rather they gotten closer in the process of their interaction while caring for grandma.

They didn't have a boss and employee dynamic only, they also had grandma as a relation that's why when mch found out yzm used her she gotten really hurt and told him she saw him as family. I think that's the first time someone ever said something nice to him who's not related to him by blood, and we all know he has a very hard childhood. I think that was the turning point in their relationship as he started to treat her as a friend and not a boss anymore.

When yzm heard mch was getting engage to her boyfriend, what was he thinking, he ran down the stairs to the engagement party like he was about to stop the engagement. Has he started to fall for mch or is he only showing care because his grandmother asks him to take care of her.

Ep 16 the mother went behind her daughter back to arrange the engagement is just totally stupid and reckless. She was under stress about her house needing repair, so that boyfriend sister came at the right time and offer her a house must be very tempting that she went ahead with the engagement and arrange for all their relatives to come without letting her daughter in on it. I'm glad mch made the right choice and did not listen to her mother and go through with the engagement, this incident finally gave mch a backbone to say she has enough and makes the decision to move out of their house. The father is really supportive of his daughter and finally speaks up to his wife, he told mch he has choose to stay silent all these years to keep the peace. He should speak up sooner, the mother has gone too far, her action looks like she's selling her daughter for money and comfort.

That mistress of the father ran away so fast after being found out about their affair, wonder if she is even pregnant. She professed she doesn't want anything else but him, but she cowardly ran away when he gotten sick and his family found out, and left mch to handle things for her. Yzm has been acting so nice to mch after she helps him when he got sick, is he finally starting to have feeling for her, or is this another way to impress grandma. He knew grandma cares alot for mch, so he made sure to tell grandma once he gets xinganli he will give mch a promotion and let her work there. However i think grandma has her own thinking and is afraid he will makes changes to her hotel since his vision is different from her, so she might leave the hotel to mch instead since they share the same vision about the hotel. That trip that they made together, we can see yzm was about to change staffs, but in the end he changes his mind after he was persuaded by mch to give the staffs a chance. He is not so cold hearted after all since he is not set in his way, and is willing to listen to advice. I wonder if grandma will give mch and yzm the hotel management in order to get them both to work together to better the hotel.

I don't think that's true she want money for herself, she wants her daughter to have a better life than herself so she doesn't have to worry about money. And in many asian families, the parents still think they have a say in their son and daughter's lives as they gave birth to them so they think they own them, no matter what age they are. Mch mother is from the country, so she is still stuck in the old generation way of thinking.

I agree with you, only someone who lives in a poor family would understand why the mother is so demanding and want the daughter to marry well. Look how stingy she was, she ate left over food so her children can eat well, she refuses to buy a new dress to go to the family meeting when her daughter insists she will pay for her, if her daughter and her friend didn't said the dress was cheap she would pick something cheaper. The pipe was old but she refused to fix because it cost money. Her daughter wants her to go to the hotel but she refused because she afraid it cost money and would rather sleep in a house that's flooded so she could save on money. We can see the mother is alway worry about money, and constantly thinking of way to save money. Both her and her husband willing to move out of their house after the demolition so they could save on money to give her daughter a dowry and live in a smaller house; they both willing to sacrifice their comfort so her daughter can marry well. Lots of people on here are complaining about the mother, but i also see the mother means well, she wants her daughter to marry the boyfriend because he loves her daughter not just because he's rich, and she even said to her daughter what matters is the both of them and she doesn't care that his family is looking down on them. I think that's why mch and her brother are so patient with her mother because they also understood the mother only want what's best for them, it's just she doesn't know how to go about it the right way. Also we got a bit of background on the brother why he's so reluctant to voice his opinion and stay silent when he was inconvenient by his mother is because he was left to be raise by his grandmother until he was six because the mother was busy working to make a living. We also found out the mother does cares about her son and buy toys for him while he was away from home, so we can see she felt guilty for abandoning him to her mother because she has to work so she can't take care of her child. So in conclusion, the mother has a hard life and wants her daughter to have a rich husband so she doesn't have to live in fear of not having money like the mother constantly feel. That why i think she's blinded to the boyfriend's shortcoming once she found out he's rich.

In this drama grandma has such wisdom, she totally understood yzm and is not fool by his cares of her, she knew right away he is planning something behind her back and confronts him right away, also her talk with mch made mch able to get over the boyfriend and finally move on after the breakup when even her parents and best friend couldn't comfort her. I'm liking grandma she's the only who can rein in yzm and get him to behave ^^

Yzm's assistant is a nice guy, he tried to interfere for mch by telling yzm if he goes through with his plan it will hurt mch in the process. Yzm made the choice to go through with the plan anyway and said the boyfriend doesn't deserves her, i think yzm values her as a skill employee in his company and also respect her work ethics and moral values. that why he went looking for another job for her because he knew she will not want to work as his assistant. After that incident, mch asked to be transferred from working under yzm, her attitudes toward him also changed, before she was alway respectful and kind of fearful towards him, now she started to talk back to him and is not afraid to offense him as she's not working under him anymore. Yzm attitude also changes, he doesn't treat her like an employee anymore, he starts to become more friendly towards her and even make jokes with her. I wonder if her words to him about seeing him as family has an effect on him or is his attitude only changes because of grandma watching.
