I heard it was abolished during emperor zhan ji son's reign, so I was wondering if zhan ji's wife the empress, I'm assuming zi jin will become empress in future has some influence, to change that practice/law. If that was ever acknowledged as one of her accomplishments as empress. In ep 13, she was saying to zi ping that this practice of burying concubines is wrong, and should be change, that's why I hope she will be the one to change the practice.

All the concubines fought to sleep with emperor, that was also depicted in yanxi palace. The reality of the concubines treatment were appalling there as well, but at least they get to live to their old age, although the in-fighting between the concubines resulting in them being killed or punished if they didn't have the king favor was showed very clearly in that drama. This is even worse, even if there's less in-fighting between the concubines being showed here.

Up to ep 13, the emperor died. Omg what an absurd rule, concubines with no children will be bury with the emperor once he died, and they're not a small number how can such a rule exists. These concubines are treated even less than a normal servant. How sad for these women, concubine Zhang was so pitiful, she didn't want to die, but in the end she has to follow this rule that they're saying can't be changed...What zi jin said to zi ping I hope will be true, maybe she will be the one to change this rule once she becomes empress.

I agree with some of your points, however I don't agree houchi and shanggu are similar. Shanggu enjoyed her status as a chief god since birth, but she's still much younger than Houchi so her character only mature when baijue became her teacher, and she has to undergoes her training in the netherworld. Houchi has the status of a goddess, but she didn't enjoy her status as a goddess, she wasn't spoiled like shanggu was while she was growing up. She is so much more mature than shanggu because she was constantly gossip and bad-mouthed that she learned to develop a tough skin, and because she's also older that she didn't care what anyone thought of her. In term of status, the qingchi palace and the heavenly palace are equal, so her father and her status as a goddess are equal to the heavenly emperor and empress so she didn't needs to bow down to them. In the beginning she thought wuhuan was her mother, that's why she despises the people from the heavenly palace because of how they treated her, wuhuan never acted motherly toward her, so she never consider her as a mother. Houchi temperament developed from being isolated, and she's very tough even with no power of her own, she knew her status as a goddess.

Although that mean his grandfather died, and his father became emperor, saw the trailer for ep 13, so it wasn't a surprise but I'm sad for zhan ji, he has such a special relationship with his grandfather.

Then this is not your kind of drama. I don't expect everyone to share my love for this drama, but this is the one drama that gotten me to rewatch so many times. In my opinion it has a nice coherent plot with great character development from both good and bad characters, that reflects in the rating from most viewers.

I kind of pity matron meng, she was at the top position, and now she's down on her luck and being bully by one of her helpers. Just show working in the palace is not all it's crack up to be.

Glad to see zi jin and zhan ji gotten closer. Was hoping they get to sing an ost together, and hear we see them playing music together. Are the actors playing for real because that some talents they had ^^

I notice most Yu Zheng dramas have a large casts, and they focus on too many characters, it's alright if they're interesting, but if they're not, it could get boring since most who are watching, watch for the main leads. This happened in court lady, I hope for this drama, xukai character has more screen times than in court lady, as well as the romance between the main leads stay center, since I'm looking forward to them getting together ^^
