Does anyone know, is the Xie Qi in the cast list related to Xie Zheng or is the same surname a coincidence? I'm still not able to match all the actors I've seen with their faces on the cast list here.
Anyone else scared the separation's gonna be really long since we're only 9/40 episodes in and there's already…
There will certainly be one. We can see it coming from a mile away. If they take their time to develop things it won't have to be long, though. Hopefully it won't be TOO agonizing. I guess we'll see!
I'd prefer that they can still interact somehow without being able to be "together," rather than an actual physical separation for many episodes.
when i was reading the novel, i kept thinking "why does he keep on being badly injured!"
He never gets time to recover, I guess! I felt the same reading Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson. The kid in that book was always falling ill. It's the only thing I really remember from the book.
But a lot has happened between them, no? The affection has been noticeably growing. I personally love the gradual…
Ah, I see.
The kiss was kind of fast relative to other dramas, but it suited the moment and I think it fit with where it feels like they're at. They are tentative about things with each other because they know they will have to part, but also starting to get pretty attached and getting a little carried away at times (it'd probably help if they stopped staging fake lovemaking!). π
I personally just appreciate the lack of romantic mind games and playing hard to get and stuff like pretending they feel less than they do, etc. that dramas often use in slow burn romances that can drive me nuts as they feel like attempts to drag out a story.
The leads are also good at communicating so far (though obviouslyhe's keeping secrets, though he is being as honest as he can), and that helps keep things simple and straightforward between them.
I mean, I think it would be weirder for these two (based on what has happened between them so far) to not fall for each other at this point. But I understand that you enjoy the way the novel progressed things, and adaptations will often fall short if you've done both.
compared the novel, its shocking to see them kiss or even be aware of their feelings this early. i mean i suppose…

I watched the episodes this morning, but I am finally able to share some highlights.
I enjoyed Gong Sun Yin who was very offended to not have heard about the marriage. It was fun to see how Changyu exploded all of his exaggerated fantasies about what Xie Zheng's matrilocal wife was like. Once he saw her his expression read, "Ah, I get it now." π
He seems to genuinely care for Yan Zheng, and was a funny addition. They were convincing as friends.
Enjoyed how fakeout session #2 became a heart to heart and then ended in the most dramatic way possible. (Did he fake being more wounded than he actually was so she would hold him? π€)
Also, so looking forward to seeing our Marquis show what he's capable of once he stops almost dying every few episodes by getting fresh wounds or reopening old ones.
Curious to see how the restaurant owner will feature as the story progresses (and I'm wary of Li Huai An) but my favorite scenes are still the ones with our leads in them. βΊοΈ
!!!! I've dreamed of a FL fighting together with their ML (just like in LOTFG). Here it's SO balanced. They're…
But I'm enjoying this way more than LOTFG because the writing, editing (dare I say acting?), and production is significantly better. Even Prisoner of Beauty, which had some great scenes and was acted well by the leads who also had great chemistry, had some poor editing, production and continuity issues. At times the writing left much to be desired.
does it have deep dialog and solid plot or just aesthetic and fanservice ???
So far, I find it well-balanced. Many of the locations it's filmed at are obviously sets, even many of the shots "in nature," which is kind of a bummer, but besides that it feels well-paced. It has serious moments, and some hilarious moments, and some very heartwarming characters already. Both the ML and FL are very likable (and very beautiful π ), and I appreciate how many conversations and moments of connection the leads have that shows their friendship grow and their affection deepen.
It isn't rushing the story, and is slowly drawing us into the larger game that is afoot that our leads will be joining soon. Right now it's building the basis for their love which will set the stage for all the things they'll struggle to overcome to be together. So far it has me fully invested in their story.
A nice plus is their chemistry is chemistrying. π
So are my impressions correct about Li Huai An that we don't really know where he stands in all this maneuvering? I'm having kind of a hard time tracking who he's truly working for. His grandfather? Chancellor Wei? General He? It was unclear to me.
But despite the confusion, I have a feeling he will not be a friend to our leads in the grand scheme of things...

Thankfully he also manages to borrow swords from the assassins. π
