๐ They are SO long, and honestly a little hard to take seriously. The Korean version of these ministerial hats…
So, you're saying they built a sort of behavior expectation into their clothing? That's clever, but also seems pretty manipulative. I was thinking that it would require you to carry yourself carefully if you didn't want to look silly by wacking people if you turned too fast or got too close to someone. That was the only thing I could think of for why they'd exist. But a gossip deterrent I did not think of. ๐
I thought I was confused before with Song Yanโs actor looking like two different ppl but apparently I was right.…
They AI'd his face?! Sometimes Chinese actors have uncanny looking faces from plastic surgery, so I didn't even guess that it wasn't his real face. Are there articles about it?
the official's hat is freaking long, is there special meaning behind it beside the time setting?
๐ They are SO long, and honestly a little hard to take seriously. The Korean version of these ministerial hats look like beaver tails sticking out of each side, but those in this Cdrama are silly-looking in addition to be impractical. Did no one think of the impractical nature of these hats? Really? ๐
Does anyone know if Netflix also follows the 5pm release time?
For me in PST it released in the wee hours of the morning. But I looked up that it airs the same time on Netflix as it does on iQiyi, I think? So unlike other dramas where the platforms air at different times, I think they're all aligned on this drama. It's kind of nice that some aren't ahead of others on the comment thread. โบ๏ธ
Directorโs preference. Also, Linghe isnโt a native Mandarin speaker so perhaps the Director specifically wants…
That accounts for how different it sounds when I hear people speak Mandarin in person. I've wondered why it doesn't always sound the same, even though I can tell it's Mandarin. ๐
After watching Nirvana in Fire I realized that Jack Black voicing Po in Kung Fu Panda just absolutely obliterates the pronunciation for 'shifu.' ๐ (Also, the fact that Master Shifu is just saying the same thing twice also strikes me funny!).
What a useless magistrate, and the guy that keeps telling him what to do is just so annoying. The friend arrived…
People probably love wouldn't k ow the emperor if they saw him either. Probably just members of the court, nobility and the military would know his face.
is this lovers to enemies to lovers plot!! and is mo hide something so fl will punish him for it like always ๐ ๐!?…
No, more like marriage of convenience to help each other out with their respective desperate situation. ๐ They are on good terms from the get-go and naturally begin to gain affection for one another as the episodes progress and as they see the other sacrifice for and prioritize them.
One thing that annoys me with Netflix subs is that they fail to use appropriate honorifics. For example: Changning…
I saw brother-in-law a few times, but you're right, the subtitles do have her calling both by name. But I can tell she's using honorifics because when the subtitle has her say their name I never hear their name said by the actress, so I just automatically replace the name with the cutesy honorifics since I've seen enough dramas to recognize them or some version of them.
Also, I was just thinking, the leads' interactions with this drama are what I (in hindsight) wanted from the mortal realm arc in The Legend Of Shen Li (even though I really enjoyed The Legend Of Shen Li once we knew the characters were in love, I didn't really know WHY they fell in love).
In contrast, this drama is building the reasons into their growing affection much better. The progression is organic, the pace is gentle, and sparks are slowly starting to fly. Getting to watch their secrets unfold as they grow closer and as we learn more about the characters proves to be a compelling concoction.
Yan Zheng has become more and more convincing as a fallen noble hiding his identity. He clearly has a lot of tools, weapons and resources in his arsenal, and he's only scratched the surface of showing us what they are, and what he's capable of.
This drama is so refreshing, Iโm usually obsessed with MLs and still am but letโs talk about the FL. She is…
I had a sense the hooligans would become friends with the FL (partly because of how they were written in, but also, because they were too good-looking to not feature in the plot. ๐
I know the story later will feature more with the nobility and royal court, which aligns with the setting for most costume dramas, but it does feel like it's doing some new things, yes. And it has one of those strong females leads I'm learning to love (and that are becoming quite common) in costume Cdramas.

I think I like this character even better than the character this actress played in New Life Begins. The roles are very similar but here she is a little tougher and stands up for herself better. I just love her exuberance and cheeriness that somehow doesn't feel childish and immature since many FLs who try to be effusive and cheery tend to feel like kids (Douluo Continent, I'm looking at you). She reminds me a little bit of the FL in Starry Love, who I loved, too.
