I think this drama is high-key gonna become my comfort drama + guilty pleasure drama. Gu Wei peeling fruits and going medical BBC Sherlock on everyone in the bar I couldn't stop laughing. 🤣 Loving the relationship between the Lin family too it's so hilariously chaotic lmao.

I'm the only one who likes how CGI looks?I read comments and many pople rants how CGI looks horrible....Did I…
Considering it was made before they even finished shooting, let alone post production, it looked great.

Heard the war in episodes 18-19 was believed to depict one of the Sino-Vietnamese conflicts back in the 1950s…
Seems to me the outrage was based on fake news. Sino Viet war was fought in 1979, the series started from 1983. (I went back to see those "boycott" posts and yes they mentioned 1979 which does not even exist in the drama). And the series seems to focus on the weaknesses of their own army as evidenced by some same people whining in the comment section itself.

GYY and JNZ should really separate now. They are not on the same wavelength anymore. JNZ cannot understand his grief and mourning because although she was in war, she didn't lose someone important nor did she experience tragedy the way GYY did. That event has changed him and you can't simply ask him to move on because that's not how grief works. It's not her fault either because one cannot understand it unless they experience it.
I think eventually GYY and AXiu can find solace in each other and heal each other.

The scene where GYY finds out about Zhang Fei's death and breaks down was shattering but the one that truly broke me was when he said he can't be in 9th company anymore because the guilt was driving him insane. I could truly imagine the extent of his grief then 😭 he's only 19 😭 and also Xiao Zhan's performance in this series is something ELSE. And it peaks every episode.

What GL did was unforgivable, poor Zhang Fei his luck is just bad. Thank God he at least got promotion. I so want…
I don't even get it. He's just a servant/assistant at his house and not even doing anything or giving any extra insights that should make the div. commander so partial towards him. The script has still not established why GL is a valuable part of the army, like his brother died and so what do we do, give him a medal for that?
I still feel like GYY's sense of justice will be more affected if he gets to know what kind of injustice was almost about to happen with Zhang Fei who is so kind to him, compared to all the mean teasing GL does re:JNZ. I'll just imagine him beating GL's ass in my head XD

Episode 15:GL is again getting away with stuff. That's good to know. This man committed a crime that had a meeting…
What GL did was unforgivable, poor Zhang Fei his luck is just bad. Thank God he at least got promotion. I so want GYY to know what GL almost did to Zhang Fei and break his face but I guess GYY is too dignified for that. If GL didn't have the protagonist halo he would have been such an annoying side character.
At this point I just want GYY to have a separate arc with Zhang Fei and AXiu.

He's like an errand boy under the divisional commander right now lol. But I think he's getting interested in reading?…
That's totally true. I don't think he's suitable for being a frontline soldier at all, let alone rival GYY. He can have more of an assist role in the army. I don't know what kind of role he is gonna have in the future but if they make him a frontline soldier it would just feel like a Deus ex machina kind of thing.

I know the point of these early episodes is to show how hopeless the Chinese army is but I'm just not enjoying…
I disagree. People in the military are just like normal people, they are not under war right now and the lack of strictness is talked upon as a plot point (they are supposedly a "trash troop"). But I didn't find anyone deceitful or disloyal. May I ask who?

So, in that training exercise are they using live fire the whole way through?? It looked like live artillery at…
Aside from safety which ofc is a serious issue, I don't think they can afford to waste ammo by using it on their own soldiers especially given the 80s setting and they just came out of a war (poverty and economic depression always follows war). So it must be just blanks or rubber/plastic bullets?

I don't think it was live rounds. The grenade that GYY threw was the same paper grenade that GL threw in the beginning eps. I have very little idea to be honest but I felt like it was only attempting to simulate a war atmosphere and definitely not anything real.

But GYY went and told the officer the truth the moment he found out?? He didn't know beforehand that GL and NZ are gonna get caught at night.

I guess relationships could be distracting and they need new recruits to focus on their training and learn discipline.…
I think it's cultural differences and also wasn't JNZ told that if she could get that quota of promotion via the competition she can be freely in a relationship?

This drama is unexpectedly very enjoyable. I was initially planning to skip it but it's paced really well that…
First two eps are really fast paced and I had to go back and re-watch them to properly figure out what happened once I was more familiar with the army superiors. Gao Liang and Gu Yiye play off each other well. Gao Liang has a sort of adorable buffoonishness (?) and naivete and Gu Yiye is smarter, more put together, hot and ambitious.

Jiang Nan Zheng is really sweet and sincere too and I'm really into GYY and JNZ story - it really hurts already to know they aren't gonna end up together. ;_;

Lastly, Xiao Zhan is such a highlight in this. Like, WOW. His presence, glares, emotional restraint, everything is magnetic. That sarcastic laugh in ep 9 at the completion of that difficult challenge omg I had goosebumps. GYY would've been my fave character even if Xiao Zhan wasn't playing him but he really took the character to another level.
