They lived happily together for many years at the end, and even had a child, so I would say happy ending, well, *way* happier than most of Chinese dramas!!
I liked this drama, and it was good overall, kinda like a mash-up of all the usual tropes of Historical Chinese dramas, but in a good way, and a great production.. I just wish Li Min De & Princess Di were the main characters, I LOVED their moments together way more than the main couple's!!
This looks like a rather boring casual over-the-top film, but I'm so glad Qu Chu Xiao is getting the recognition he deserves!! I hope he gets more main roles in the future!!
How come nobody mentioned Ever Night (already planned 2nd season but with a different main lead actor) and Bloody Romance (no second season plans, actually lucky they could do what they already did, unless a miracle happens, like Netflix taking up the drama or something..)
All these new Chinese dramas, with their beautiful posters, making me want to watch them so much, although I know they'll probably never ever be subbed!! :/
Another vote to include Six Flying Dragons from me!! Also, the fights in NiF2 were at least as impressive as NiF1 imo. And another Chinese drama's sword-fighting scenes to include is The Flame's daughter!! As of other Korean Dramas, Tree with Deep Roots (less scenes than SFD but as good), Yaksha (a relatively unknown bloody mature short drama), The Return of Iljimae and, last but not least, my beautiful boys in Warrior Baek Dong Soo!!
Great article, thanks!! As a sageuk maniac, I'm waiting for part 2 (and maybe 3, 4...) for all the other portrayals of important Korean historical figures in sageuks!!!
Well, that's how it goes. But the last 10 episodes are brilliant
Right! I was emotionally scarred when they turned against each other (usually, I don't even mind "sad endings" where characters die, but characters turning against each other & killing each other makes me feel broken :( ).. But despite that, I've never stopped recommending this drama to everyone I know, even to people who have never even watch an Asian drama in their life, lol. The way these episodes played, their different strategies and different point of views, their dialogues & philosophies, were so brilliant, and humanely universally applicable. Sambong dreamed a righteous, bloodless rebellion, the creation of his own utopia, and sticked to it till the end. Especially his obsession over (his lover -as I like to call him, lol) Poeun was probably the last straw. Bang Won on the other hand was more pragmatist, even if he had the same world views as Sambong. He admired Sambong, he really was his master, the way he looked at him before killing him, his goodbye to his seonsaengnim, was heartbreaking!
Im on ep 4 and Xuan Nu and Li Jing keep referring Si Yin as "her" and "she", so Xuan Nu knows she's really a girl…
She doesn't know, maybe that's due to translation for convenience.. And I think in Chinese there aren't gender pronouns, they would refer to "that person" instead of he/she, but I'm not 100% sure of that..
This looks really good and unique for a Korean historical/fantasy drama!! But I hope they put some political staff in it, cause these writers really shine in political staff!!!
...But oh Qi Ji!!!!
