Her romantic storyline is not a very happy one. And there’s no kissing or anything like that. She’s the 4th Prince’s wife.

I dropped this after 14 episodes. The story just didn't pull me in, the editing felt off, and the low budget really showed. That said, I know a lot of people stuck with it, probably because of the leads. I actually gave it 14 episodes mostly for them, but in the end, it just wasn't for me.

Give it at least 5 episodes. by then, you'll know if it's for you or not

Now I finally get it, thank you so much for taking the time to explain all that. I had no idea it was adapted from a novel, so they wanted to keep the overall concept intact and not remove it. In the drama, they did show Shen Xihe's anxiety on her way to the capital to hint that she's weak and scared. And Gu Qing zhi's decisiveness was what saved her. Well, I can't really say "saved"; because I've only watched 30 episodes so far and I have no idea what actually happened to the real Xihe's soul. Maybe she died when she fell into the water? But if they had shown more of her backstory, it probably would've felt more natural and I wouldn't have felt like that part was forced.

Most Chinese dramas are about reincarnation anyway. After watching so many, it just feels cliché to me at this point. But I don't think the writers really care about that lol.

I know she had the memories of both lives, but that really wasn't necessary. Reincarnation is already so overused in cdramas, the author didn't have to force it in.

I don't get the reason for this reincarnation of the FL into a new body. They could have just said from the start that she's Xihe, and the tragic story of the Gu family could have simply been an incident meant as a lesson for the FL to pay attention to. Also, the 5th Prince's love could have developed naturally, rather than having him search for his dead wife in the FL.

That way, everything would have seemed logical.
