I'm willing to bet you've been forgiven for things you wish you hadn't done. But for some reason you don't think Nagisa "deserved" forgiveness. I'm not a Christian really, but JC said all one need do to earn forgiveness is to admit their wrong, apologize and resolve to change going forward.

Please show me your evidence that BLs have in any way made rape or sexual assault of any kind more 'acceptable' in Thai society or anywhere else. Show me some research and results, ok?

Secondly, the idea that most BL rapes or SAs are "romanticized" or made light of is complete bullshit. I can think of plenty of instances in which the consequences were horrible for the perpetrators in BLs. Thirdly, I do not accept your bizarre definition of rape, nor the one in the videos, in the first place. Type was not "raped" in the shower because Tharn gave him a blow job. The only thing Type didn't like about it is that he ENJOYED IT so much.

The psycho kid in TT who hired thugs to rape and film that other kid was not shown going to jail, but he WAS shown being made a complete outcast and pariah by everyone who knew him. He WAS shown contemplating suicide and sobbing to his sister that no one loved or cared about him. And that was true.

Anyway, like I said, I don't accept your definition of rape of SA, I don't accept that these shows "promote" the same, and I don't accept that it has any discernible effect on society.

It is revealing how many commenters want Nagisa, Shun, Sora and the wife to live in endless anger and pain and loneliness because goddammit, that is what that bastard Nagisa deserves! People love to judge others harshly because it makes them feel better about themselves.

So your problem is that Nagisa sought and was granted forgiveness for all the wrongs he had done? That he apologized to all and set things right? That he enabled Shun to know love again, to love a child and be openly accepted by the townspeople? That he apologized to his wife in open court and granted her custody of Sora, knowing it would break his heart to do so? You're upset that Nagisa came out as a gay man and got honest? That he faced society as a gay man, which is a tough thing to do, especially in Asia?

You sound like a very judgemental, bitter, angry person who would rather nurse anger and resentment than let it go and know happiness. You want Nagisa to live in endless misery because you think that is what he deserves, that he should never be forgiven and know happiness. You want Shun to die a lonely old man, isolated from society to his last day.

What is it about the nagisa in the movie that still sets you off? If he hadn't had the balls too show up unannounced with his daughter, which I grant is a very nervy thing to do, Shun would also have been denied the acceptance he discovered from the townspeople and the joy of his union with Nagisa and little Sora.

I Told Sunset About You. And it looks like the sequel may be of equal quality. But yeah, this is a great movie that I don't think gets the attention it deserves. Night Flight, No Regret, Endless Summer, Double Mints, Lan Yu, are all great gay-themed movies. But this one has a tenderness all its own. The remarkable child actor is a big part of that.

You felt no chemistry between Nagisa and Shun? Really? Wow. I think you must have watched a different movie than I did. Their chemistry was off the charts.

And that would have made you feel self-righteous and all kick-ass in the moment. It also would have resulted in you spending the rest of your life as lonely and isolated as Shun had been until Nagisa and Sora showed up. The are angels in his life and Shun will never regret that Nagisa made such a ballsy move.

Why should he not have? I thought like you at first too, but then I realized...it was a ballsy move, but how else to discover if Shun still harbored feelings for him, which he absolutely did? Why give Shun the chance to turn him down on the phone? Out of shame? Fuck that. Shame is useless. Without Nagisa showing up unannounced at the door, Shun would also have been denied the beautiful reconciliation and continued on as a lonely, friendless misfit in a nowhere town. Even the lovely ability to be out and who he was in the town and among the people would not have come about without Nagisa showing up as the catalyst.

I didn't come out of the closet til I was 37 because I was terrified of the repercussions and more than a bit of a coward. During the intervening years I married a woman I was fond of who loved me and we had three children together, all now adults. I make no excuses for my behavior but I have apologized, have asked for and been granted forgiveness from all involved, especially my ex-wife.

I don't know anything about you, but it's grand that you apparently are without flaws and in a position to judge and condemn others for their behavior. Nagisa did a lot of things in the past that lacked integrity. He used others to fight his own self-hatred. But he also finally gathered his courage, he came out to his wife and asked for a divorce, he sought out the young man whose heart he broke and asked forgiveness from him, he never stopped loving and taking excellent care of his daughter, who is a beautiful bit of heaven come down to earth and in court he stopped what was happening and did the hardest thing imaginable because it was right.

So WTF else do you want from this character? Should he wallow in self-hatred for the rest of his life? Never forgive himself and move forward? Never offer his love to his partner, who never stopped loving him in return? Don't forget that without his questionable earlier behavior, there would BE no Sora, OR my children on this earth. Who are you to say they weren't meant to be here? And just as coming out and seeking divorce freed my wife to eventually enter into what is now an 18-year marriage to a man who loves her as I never could, Nagisa FREED his wife to find a relationship with a straight man who could love her as she deserves.

As for your last comment, what movie did you watch? You didn't see that Nagisa DID gather the strength to face society and live as who he is? That is PRECISELY what he did. He didn't sneak out on the side to see if Shun wanted him back before coming out to his wife and seeking divorce. He had already done all that when he showed up on Shun's door. He was in the process of self-actualizing and there is nothing wrong whatsoever with him seeking out Shun to see if his feelings were reciprocated.

I hope you don't judge the people in your life as harshly as you do Nagisa. You might just have a few things to answer for yourself.

Ahhh...just one of the best damn BLs out there. Third watch and I'm still finding new aspects and depth; always a great sign of a good flick. I guess I'd call it more of a gay-themed film than a BL, just to keep it from even being compared to such drek as SOTUS or some of the other abominations out there.

Quiet, unassuming, patient to tell its story in a slow but steady manner. The slow-motion reunion of the lovers was realistic, the towns people's acceptance was lovely, but the painful need to do the right thing for Sora and all coming together at the end to serve that purpose was...transcendent.

FORGIVENESS, of others and oneself, and love. There's not any more I can ask from a movie like this.

Nagisa annoyed me at first with his presumptuous behavior and seeming disregard for Shun's autonomy and space, but I think he felt just showing up was the only way there would be hope for any kind of reconciliation, so he just went for it. Shun is either a saint or a pushover; probably a lot of the former and a little of the latter. But in the end, Nagisa's admittedly "whimsical" act of appearing out of nowhere brought great joy for Shun too.

I love this movie and gave it a 9.5. The actress playing the mother was pitch-perfect in her portrayal as well. She wasn't a saint or a bitch either, but rather a good person who'd been deeply hurt but overcame her instinct for retaliation.

Oh yes, I know the one you're talking about. The two young surf-boarders. It too is a striking BL and the two young actors are tremendous. Reminds me I need to watch it again. It seems like maybe Kiss: What is Love is a supposed sequel to the Kiss: IDTIWFIL you are speaking of. Please do watch What is Love? also. I think you will like it very much. To me it's on the same plain with ITSAY and IPYTM. :)
