to be fair, the final episodes in the original were about the same and they were similarly criticized. as a remake…
Hi worms. Thanks for your response. My problem with SM and all BL characters like him is that they just go "oh well, I'm insecure about this and this is what I imagine my BF/partner to be thinking, and I know what's best for him no matter what he says so I'm going to lie and break up with him rather than, you know, bring the subject up and talk it through." And I don't believe that "talking it through" would mean the drama would be boring.
BUT this old trope where the lonely, old, noble, self-sacrificing homo slinks away into the shadows rather than have a simple adult conversation is absurd, ESPECIALLY as it's been done 3,000 times now in various BLs. I always wonder: do these writers and directors just totally not give a shit about doing anything original? they're just OK with throwing the same old shit up there for us to look at as we've seen before? THAT I do not get.
I wanted to ask if the drama you mention above, Tonari no Kazoku wa Aoku Mieru, is worth a watch, given that I don't have much patience for shows where straight stories eat up all the time. That's another complaint of mine about Ossan's Love: too much straight stuff. lol
Why do you infer that all BL degrades gay people? Just because the genre has a lot of harmful tropes, the tropes…
You don't watch many recent BLs, do you? You are WAY behind the curve on what goes on in them these days. Coming out/accepting one's sexuality definitely remains a common theme, but there's not much of the "I'm only gay for YOU" trope among fresh BLs. Many contain characters who are out at the beginning of the drama as well. But I see you use the term "problematic" lol so you wouldn't be going in with an open mind anyway. Social Justice Warriors rarely like BL which is fine.
Im a bl fan and i really love the japanese version is the remake really good???
It's almost exactly the same as the original in all the worst ways. I loved it for six episodes, now I hate it. I do not get why this was made; it is truly just a rehash.
to be fair, the final episodes in the original were about the same and they were similarly criticized. as a remake…
I have never bought into this "having a gay relationship with a straight man..." idea, as the fact that they are in a relationship (supposedly though there's little sign of it) means to me that the guy is clearly NOT straight or he wouldn't be in a relationship with a man! It's not complicated! :) Straight men don't date men! Hello!
How about saying "I know your mom wants grandkids, your sister says you'll be a great dad, you seem to want kids, and seeing as how I do not have a uterus, I thought perhaps we should talk about the options?" That seems a more believable option than "I no longer love you" after they just spent a nice trip together, SM introduced Tin to his family, and SM obviously adores Tin.
Wow. One more episode. One more circle around the toilet bowl. This show was so great until episode 7. Since then it's descended into BL Hell, where all ridiculous tropes and cliches come swirling into each other in a great, violent whirlpool of sewage and stupidity.
So...everything goes great for SM and Tin on their trip. Dad will obviously come around, the ladies love Tin, he's met the family, they're getting along great...then...a couple of remarks here and there about Tin's mom wanting grandkids, the life-long female friend confesses, Tin buys some baby clothes for his new nephew to be and... SM agrees that Tin's old female friend should confess to him and he's cool with it. HELL no, bitch butt out. SM naturally just happens to see Tin and the female friend in a platonic embrace Rather than look into what's really going on, SM folds clothes while telling Tin to fuck off, I don't love you (all for Tin's own good of course, cause that's what noble, self-hating homo BL characters do: they dump their lover rather than talk to them) Tin and SM could have 10 kids with surrogates; it happens every day Tin and SM could adopt 10 kids, happens all the time Tin and SM could decide they don't even WANT kids; happens every day SM could actually tell Tin what is bugging him and the could, you know, TALK about it But, nah, it's better to lie to your significant other, viciously dump them and tell them you don't love them anymore, move out while they're asleep and then ignore them at work, cause, you know...BL
I didn't even feel sad as I watched ep 12 unfold. It was all so predictable and lame and boring and has been done a million times. What was the purpose of this remake? The original and the movie were fine. Why go to all this expense, time and effort to reproduce a story, line for line, without updating it, making some radical changes, do something new and gay-affirming? Instead we get THIS.
Series was SO funny, SO good when it started, now it's garbage.
They are clearly keeping to their separate bedrooms. Tin was shown waking up in his bedroom and then SM came out…
Yes, I have. In fact, I've mentioned two or three times that Tin doesn't seem to know whether he's gay, bi or straight. However, why would that prevent them from being in a relationship, even if it's true? And why are you so dead-set on making excuses for this show?
They are clearly keeping to their separate bedrooms. Tin was shown waking up in his bedroom and then SM came out…
OK, first of all: Who's "mad?" That's just a typical little bit of shad thrown out there to imply anyone who disagrees with you is out of control. Secondly, this isn't YOUR thread. It's a thread on the MDL comment board and anyone can reply to your ravings, even if they are in all-caps. Ew, scary! Thirdly, you've refuted nothing I wrote so you've resorted to "you're mad so shut up!" Also, feel free to block me.
in case anyone missed anything, no, the trip with Tin in Tai Ok is not just Siu Muk's dream, IT DID HAPPEN (anson…
They are clearly keeping to their separate bedrooms. Tin was shown waking up in his bedroom and then SM came out of HIS bedroom and left for work. They have never shared so much as a peck on the cheek at home. How do you know Tin really likes guys? Has he been shown hugging and kissing one? Has he had sex of any kind with one? It's unrealistic, silly and stupid. He has announced his relationship to the office people, but still hasn't tried dick. If that's how the story is REALLY supposed to be presented, then why haven't we seen or heard anything about WHY Tin is so reluctant to have gay sex? Have they tried it and it didn't work out? Have they talked about when they may or may not have sex in the future? As far as I can tell from what is on the screen, there is no way to know any of this; it just has been ignored as an issue.
Not upset, annoyed. Not your comment, your condescending, hall-monitor tone. And no, I'm not going to edit it. If Edan should stop by and see his name misspelled, I don't think he'll give a shit either.
Oh good god, I didn't "change" his family name on purpose. I misspelled it because I thought that was the correct spelling. Are you telling me that you suspected I "changed" his family name deliberately? Why would anyone do that? Go bother someone else.
hmmm ok ok ok... post-credits scene--- I got it. I've never waited after the post-credits to be honest with this…
It is right at the very end of the episode, I guess after the credits...I haven't gone back to look. SM wakes to discover he has been dreaming about Tin taking care of him while he was sick and in bed. However, I've been reprimanded by three other commenters who insist this was an "Easter Egg," not meant to be taken as part of the plot, but just something SM dreamed while he was sick and Tin was out of town with KK, BEFORE the little trip/date. Whatever. Makes no difference as to the completely asexual, a-romantic, unemotional, "relationship" that I am assure Tin and SM are sharing. And did you catch the little scene AFTER SM embarrassed Tin in front of everyone at the office by saying there was "some misunderstanding" and they were NOT in a relationship, even though Tin had just announced to the world that they were. SM said he didn't want to "hide it" but he didn't want to "advertise it" either. Good God...I would have punched him.
I suppose I hope HK has LOTS more BLs too, but...why does that require ignoring stupid BL-cliche, gays-can't-be-happy…
Maybe you're right. Doesn't make much difference as to the bizarre nature of their "relationship." Either way they're living together but not sharing a room or a bed, don't have sex, all the stuff I mentioned above. Maybe it's because both actors are boy-band stars in HK and don't want to tarnish their fake straight images. :D

SM naturally just happens to see Tin and the female friend in a platonic embrace

Lowering to 4/10.
