Audience abuse? oh honey...This world is going to crush you without even noticing if you don’t toughen up at…
You are arrogant, presumptuous and way out of line. Who said artists exist to give anyone what they want? I am a visual artist, writer and actor/singer. I love pushing boundaries and testing peoples' capacity for taking "offense." However, if you think there is no emotional connection between a piece of art or entertainment and its audience, you are even less perceptive than I'm guessing you are. And if there is an emotional connection, it can most certainly be abused, as can any other relationship.
Deliberately setting up an audience for one thing and then slapping them down with another, causing pain and distress FOR NO OTHER PURPOSE THAN BECAUSE YOU CAN is gratuitous and abusive of trust. Sure, break my heart, beat me senseless with tragedy and woe but you better have a damn good artistic purpose in doing so.
I won't waste time pointing out just how much of an ass you are for the assumptions made by your last, demeaning sentence. My life has been the opposite of what you imagine (and you imagine it as such to make yourself comfortable with your assinine position) and I most definitely know what I am talking about.
Audience abuse? oh honey...This world is going to crush you without even noticing if you don’t toughen up at…
I'm guessing you're one of those people who think there is no such thing as emotional abuse, people just need to suck it up, right? Don't worry about me, sweetie, I'm plenty tough or I wouldn't have survived for such a long time.
I enjoy the acting but the script is dumb. If my man ghosted me, I would move on, I would definitely not travel…
Is it really an unpopular opinion on this thread that SD and SY had sex on or around the couch? Is this a BL series thread or an evangelical/fundamentalist psycho right-wing Christian church chat room? Who CARES if it is "not morally right?" It's a freaking fictional BL series, not a film version of a book of the Koran or the Bible, isn't it? As I've argued before, without immoral, questionable and unkind behavior, dramas would be boring as hell.
That said, why would it be "morally wrong" in some sense if they DID have sex on the couch or the floor or draped over the railing of the stairway? If SY was all in and all for it, what's the problem here? Or are we back to the idea that SD was "sexually assaulting" SY and that such a thing should never result in hot sex even if the object of the aggressive behavior consents to it? If that's the case, you'll never win that argument here. Religious zealots and prudes have been replaced with SJWs and busy-bodies.
Just from MY impression of the plot and action to this point, I don't think they've done the deed. It seems more likely that SD, who seemed to be getting groggy and slurring his speech at the point of the drunken make-out, simply passed out, with or without a nice hurl spray to top things off. SY then stripped him down, knowing SD wouldn't remember anything, just to mess with his mind. However, I'm all for going ahead and imagining they did have sex, cause that's hotter. :D
Plus, there's been no hotness since the couch scene at all. They slept together fully dressed, woke up together without the normal male morning horniness that would lead to MORE sex, and to me they just don't act like two people who are having hot sex...another sign of lazy or inattentive writing.
I enjoy the acting but the script is dumb. If my man ghosted me, I would move on, I would definitely not travel…
Sam's bare torso...hasn't that been revealed only twice and then very briefly each time? I'm not good at enjoying shows that operate on inconsistent logic and absurd plot devices. It distracts me too much. I also find myself wondering "do the people who wrote and directed and produced this thing not care about it at all?" It's just so strange to me. Which is why I say I'm "hate-watching" this show now to thoroughly soak in my outrage each week. lol Yeah, lots of great suits and other business wear to look at, and I enjoy the bartender/asperger's couple.
yeah but this is not really a case of survivors guilt. He felt guilty coz he was in fact partially responsible…
My interpretation of what Kate is saying is that Tian should face LEGAL consequences for what he did, just as any poor person would if they did the exact same thing. He helped organize and initiate an illegal car race on a city street, then handed the keys to his car to the driver who eventually killed Torfun. One of his buddies even encouraged him to cancel the race, but Tian wouldn't do that. In the U.S. he would definitely be charged with the organization of an illegal car race that caused the death of a young woman. He might even be found guilty of manslaughter and would face jail time.
You can't initiate the carrying out of an illegal activity and then walk away free because you didn't personally participate in the actual incident. The race wouldn't have happened if Tian didn't set it in motion. Apparently though, as is often the case in BLs, wealthy Korean parents are able to shield their children from the legal consequences of their actions. This also still happens far too often in the U.S.
How many millions of people were watching this drama, and how many thousands got it canceled? I have zero respect…
That IS what I said. And you twisted it into a claim that the MAJORITY of Koreans disagree with the ban. I never said that and I have no idea if it's true. That's what I mean about making shit up in your arguments.
It shouldn't matter one way or the other. Mature, self-secure societies protect the voices of minorities above all.
I get it: You think censorship and the silencing of free speech and artistic freedom is a good thing. Even when a disclaimer clearly states that a film is a work of fiction. After all, we've got to keep those Chinese bowls off the screen. I think all of this is terrible, and a sure sign of an unhealthy and toxic social order.
I wonder how many people will kill themselves in Korea today?
even though i disagree with everything that you wrote, the one thing i wanna point out specifically is that you…
You're awfully cranky, Raya. Maybe you should take up Yoga or something similar. I'll try to be more forgiving of your mangled English as it's clear it's not your first language.
Oh yes, I thought that scene was amusing. Tharn was retaliating for things Type had said to him. The hickeys were funny. It's unfortunate that you are so uptight that you consider hickeys to be sexual assault. People like you dilute the meaning of that term by including such silly things in the definition.
How many millions of people were watching this drama, and how many thousands got it canceled? I have zero respect…
"You dont have proof to back up your claim that a vast majority of Koreans want to see that drama and don't feel offended by the portrayal of their historical figures..." I defy you to go back and quote me where I ever claimed any such thing. You are a dishonest and terrible debater. You have attributed many statements to me that I never made and then you argue against them, rather than what I actually wrote.
I think powerful, rich, people, including the royal family, behind the scenes pulled strings and made threats that got the show canceled. Because there were some Chinese-looking bowls in the wrong place. The premise of the show is SUPERNATURAL in nature. The whole thing is absurd and I think it sucks.
Since you don't reply to my actual statements and arguments and continually lie and misquote me in your replies, I'm done with you.
There are so many ways around that plot point, it's ridiculous. Don't forget She Di AGREED to terms with the dad…
Actually, he said in S1 that he had already been in love with Shu Yi for 10 years and then they changed that up in this episode to say it took him 10 years to realize he wanted to be with him. I call BS. I know all the other reasons you mention, none of which I find plausible. Yeah, yeah, he gets what he finally wants for ten years and then immediately decides he's unworthy. That makes sense. And these are all cliche BL tropes, not a lick of originality in any of it. "I can't be with you until I prove to your psycho asshole father who is a liar and a manipulator that I'm worthy, so I will lie to and deceive you whom I love on the off chance that the liar/manipulator will keep his word." mmmhmmm...that's rational.
Why does Tian "need to go back to complete his studies...?" Only a third of people in the U.S. have college degrees.…
And you realize one-half of a couple deciding something for both of them "for the sake of the other" without considering the other's input is one of the oldest tropes in BL universe? It often leads to tragedy and heartbreak.
How do you know they will meet again? Are you one of the writers? And if you are, why in the hell haven't these two dudes even made out yet, let alone hit the sack together?
How many millions of people were watching this drama, and how many thousands got it canceled? I have zero respect…
You just keep doing it: Talking about "Koreans" as if they all think the same way, believe the same things, hold the exact same values, as if there is one "Korean" opinion about the banning of this series. I'm sure there are many Koreans who disagree with the ban and wish they could have watched it. What about THEIR feelings on this matter? The fact seems to be you do not care, as you keep pushing the idea that 100 percent of the population wanted this show banned, which is ridiculous.
Also, please tell me "how things work in Asian countries." Do all Asian countries have exactly the same social frameworks, customs, history, beliefs, etc? What? No? Well, you just lumped them all into one category which you of course understand fully. You are the one here with the arrogant attitude writing as if all Asians are a monolithic block of humans who all think and behave in the same way.
"Typical Western thinking...." I see you also think all Westerners are exactly alike too. You're a real genius.
You are definitely right about one thing: I don't respect ANY society that pulls this kind of shit, including my own. I said before, mature societies don't fear freedom of expression and ideas and speech. Funny...in its censorship of that kind of thing, Korea is much like its supposed nemesis, China. lol
Who said it was up to me what anyone in Korea does? It's clearly not. But I get to have an opinion, you see. That's what thinking people do: they think about things and then express their thoughts. Any society, anywhere, that goes about banning certain ideas and images because they make some people uncomfortable is a sick society. And Korea, with its extremely high rates of suicide, depression and despair, is one of the sickest.
Why does Tian "need to go back to complete his studies...?" Only a third of people in the U.S. have college degrees.…
Says who? You write as though there is one script, one plan that fits every life and you're the one who decides that. It's really quite arrogant and incredibly condescending. There are plenty of people 20 years old who are far more mature than 60 year olds out there and already know what they want. Why does Tian need to be in college to "discover himself?"
He has already discovered who he is and what he wants, and it has not been determined by Torfun's heart being in his chest. He's only found the better part of who he already is. HE is the one who teaches those kids and loves the villagers, not Torfun. I don't know the specifics of this plot, so I don't know that Tian has no college. At 20 most students have two years under their belt.
I also said there is no reason he can't study in Bangkok and come to the village regularly if not weekly to see the Chief and everyone else.
Haven't you noticed yet? it is the CHIEF who has made this decision for Tian, and if I were Tian I would kick him in the nuts for it. Who the hell does he think he is? Does he even have the authority to just say "you're leaving and you're not the teacher anymore?" A twenty year-old is a grown-ass adult and shouldn't be letting the parents OR the Chief tell him what to do.
All that said, the absurdity of someone giving you their mother's ring to wear and then saying "not get the hell out of here and I don't want to see you again." I kept waiting for Tian to say "why the hell don't I get a say in this?" Ridiculous.
There are so many ways around that plot point, it's ridiculous. Don't forget She Di AGREED to terms with the dad…
How did he explain why he agreed. Seriously, I didn't hear anything that made sense. Are you talking about when he told Shu Yi's dad that he didn't trust him to live up to his end of any agreement and then agreed to an agreement anyway? More bad writing! If I missed something, please fill me in. I need all the help I can get wrapping my brain around this things.
See, I don't get that Shi De didn't believe Shu Yi loved him. Shu Yi is the one who forced the issue on the bridge and shouted his love for Shi De to the world from the railing, then kissed him passionately. They both cried real tears and it was a beautiful scene. Then they spent whatever time there was before Shi De left town together. (although, strangely to me, there was never any indication that they had sex). I mean, what more does She Di need to catch a clue? Someone who waited ten years to hook the one he loves suddenly checks out at the first slight insecurity? No.
I enjoy the acting but the script is dumb. If my man ghosted me, I would move on, I would definitely not travel…
Hey, Does. My first impression was that they did NOT do the deed, and Shu Yi stripped Shi De down after he threw up just to mess with his head. But then they did show Shi De in that suit later that morning and I didn't see any puke and you can't just throw a freaking suit in the washer.
The weird swimming pool scene thrown in during the couch scene is another loose end to me. What was that about? An artistic way of letting us know he threw up when he released all the air bubbles? I hope not, because that's just...stupid.
And yeah, it's one of the many oddities of this story that the two of them are sleeping together platonically and the script sort of acts like the drunk couch hotness never happened...or something. There is no way to gay guys who had just reunited would not be all over each other 24/7. But that's another BL thing: they'll bring a story to a crucial point and then the next scene starts out the next day or the next week or something and the outcome of that scene is never addressed. Weird.
What's wrong with Mix's acting? Apparently the crying was real - they could hardly stop him. I agree about the…
I agree with you, cornflakes. Mix often seems to me to be straining to "show" an emotion his character is supposed to be feeling, as opposed to truly experiencing that emotion within himself and just letting the camera see it. This will likely get me in trouble, but when Tian is sad or tearful, Mix often makes that really unattractive, scrunched-up face to indicate his sorrow.
On the other hand, in two of his crying scenes in this episode he really touched me. It was clear he was actually crying, no scrunched-up face necessary.
Honestly, I am ok with how things have been played out. Since they decided to make this series more realistic,…
Why does Tian "need to go back to complete his studies...?" Only a third of people in the U.S. have college degrees. The proportion is smaller world-wide. If someone discovers they are not interested in obtaining a degree because they have already found their calling, why should they go to college? And should that person later change their mind, they can get a degree later on. That's a common thing nowadays.
Beside which, how far is Bangkok from the village by air? Tian's family is rich. He could see the Chief every weekend if he wanted to. The idea that in 2021 a relationship cannot be maintained because of an hour's distance is silly. And their talk of never seeing each other again is even sillier. WHY won't they see each other? There's nothing preventing it except that the unimaginative writers need an obstacle to keep the couple apart and apparently they are too lazy to come up with anything original.
Deliberately setting up an audience for one thing and then slapping them down with another, causing pain and distress FOR NO OTHER PURPOSE THAN BECAUSE YOU CAN is gratuitous and abusive of trust.
