😄 what do u think of the fact that the Finns spoke English in the drama...😬😬
Such a strange question!
Of course Scandinavians do NOT use English as " the automatic tongue that they will speak daily."
It is just an important tool for international communication. That's all.
They are not vassals of the Anglosphere to live and dream of US or UK culture and English language!! In international conferences, at the UN, or European business, they will often demand interpreters even when they could communicate in English directly. Because they are proud of their own culture, their own language, and use English as a convenient key to do business or other international relations with outside world.

As for Emma personally, she may use English to write here, but her answers make it clear that she is a true blue Finn identifying with the people of her country, and even correcting the commonly used words for their local specialty pie to get us to know its name in Finnish which she likely uses much more than English, and of course, as a rule in her own birth family and among school peers. English is not used as a native language in schools and even universities, despite colleges may (like in other countries too) have specialty lecturers who use English to teach some classes or parts.

Just for your info, here's an excerpt from the European Union guidelines to language and translations or interpreting :

"The European Union has 24 official languages: Bulgarian, Czech, Croatian, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Irish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovene, Spanish and Swedish.
Under the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, citizens have the right to communicate with European Union institutions in any of these official languages. In addition, under the European Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, Members have the right to speak in Parliament in the official language of their choice, with these speeches simultaneously interpreted into the other official languages.
Using 24 languages creates 552 possible language combinations. To cope with these, the European Parliament uses a system of ‘relay’ languages: a speaker or a text is first interpreted or translated into one of the most widely used languages (English, French or German), and then into other languages. As a rule, each interpreter and translator works into his/her mother tongue."

You mean Berry? I know she was in another modern series as well. I just don't remember which series anymore.
I assume they could find her by asking Wu Lei Studio.
Although some people may participate in projects despite not wanting to turn professional or be too well known.
Word of mouth anyway could already be incredibly powerful in China, even before WeChat times.... Everyone is the "brother-sister" cousin of somebody who is etc.
Today, when someone wants to find somebody, it may be even simpler.

true, I thought the same, when I looked up the 8 pages of Baidu list for cast that reference Finns in at least 3 pages down to "taxi driver" and "old person". That's also why I think she is not a Finn but a young Chinese guest actress from minority, or an expat who participates in small roles, not credited.

Yes Finns are good at English, and other languages too. Many Scandinavians are like that too, not just from learning it from relatively early in school, but from being convinced of the usefulness of communicating in foreign languages, from using the languages more, not being immersed in "one exclusive language bubble" as many English or other big country language speakers are.

It's weird though. I never heard anyone speak Finnish in this drama. Just English when they were communicating…
All the Finns I've met speak English rather fluently, albeit with a tinge of accent, and other languages too : Swedish, very often, Russian or Polish, not seldom, even German and French, often. Not so the other way: Finnish is just so hard to pronounce and different from the other languages.
Even Wikipedia transliterates to "rice pirog" although "pirog" comes in varieties according to where they are crafted in the historic Karelian area, but acknowledges that it is a traditional specialty throughout Finland while the Poles also have a close cousin to that special food.
It's a delight to have a real Finn give us informed comments! Thanks for your interest in sharing! I hope you agree with the recipe I linked to pictures and GIF in the Discussion section, paired for season's sake with the amusing jiaozi, the most traditional of which (ingot) does remind me of the folds of the riisipiirakka :)
About seasonal delights Wu Lei studio has some nice pix of Leilei having fun folding jiaozi and being pictures with dragon shadow on his lovely face. I shall try to squeeze that in, on a new GIF in Discussion, so it will be easier to hunt up, despite sound can't be added. But I'm a bit busy these days.

🙂 cant blame YY though, he keep asking her if she wants to know anything about him... but she has none except…
ah yes, and true, Lin said he had read and watched videos about her as a professional nine ball player, but not so sure he had bothered doing the same for the other guy. 😅
Just using YG is safer for the dyslexic posters who go to the trouble of typing A instead of U when keyboards are not putting those keys so close that it's a simple mistype....
Well, it's ok : meaning did not get too lost in context, and the worst (Gou) was avoided :)

No idea why YG moved to the driver's seat when LYY was setting up the telescope. But it was while they were already…

Yes they do seem to move in an "expat bubble" of sorts. But it's true that even those who live in such bubbles have some moments when they hear and react to local language (announcements broadcast in train stations, public places, speaking in shops, people cheering after the local sports competitions... ) A touch of more there would have added nicely, instead of just mentioning the "rees peerog" (rice pirog) local specialty.
But a good part of the cast for those episodes are really Finns.

yes I thought I remembered her face from somewhere, but Baidu has no one fitting her character name or appearance in the list. She looks like a Russian minority Chinese... But I don't think she's gained fame yet.

Actually, if you type his name here on MDL you will find that there are pages created for those specials because…
yeah. but let's not think these are done in a city studio, Wu Lei studio is merely the name of his fully owned production company : he can use the resources to go places with a safety net of professionals who can take footage and research the locales so he knows what to do. And his company can post produce to everyone's best enjoyment.
As he stated in his guest guiding video of Xiamen in the Marvelous city series : he is personally someone who takes safety seriously, not taking unnecessary risks. He's paid enough to freak accidents and less safety conscious productions, such as the one when he almost lost an eye and his pretty face, a few years back...
One-eyed Leilei pirate style for life? I shiver in horror.
All the best in Dragon year to folks here, btw.

The English the taxidriver speaks is with a heavy accent. If I'm correct nothing of the series isn't filmed in…
yes France, and you can look up the Chalet Nordique du <>Plateau in Leschaux, less than 1/2 hrs drive from Annecy where the bridge Pont des Amours is located.

Sakie, langyabangs , Magnesopus and Wndering Dragon have furthermore hunted up the locations in Helsinki, Finland, and in France, on this Discussion thread :

I will try to add the missing pictures.

Anyone knows where to find the song love and shine?
this question is repeated by many, but at the moment you can only listen to a snippet in the drama, first episode, about 09:40 timestamp; AND second episode 31:50 timestamp when LYY takes YG to the subway station.

yes, to the home land, where "fallen leaves return to their roots" and everybody knows the poem Quiet night thoughts which is remembered by all who are separated by distance:

I could imagine that it's frost on the ground
I look up and see the bright shining moon
Bowing my head I am thinking of home

I too was taken aback by the sharing bank account info. I am cagey, don't even do that with close family! (well, one exception, but only in case of dire need). It is indeed borderline dangerous model behavior to follow. Openness has limits.
That and accepting drinks from strangers in a foreign country unknown bar. Nowadays it could spell looking for trouble. Depending on circumstances, of course.

oops, putting bad teeth on Mai Mai : that's a crime! Which one, to avoid it?

ZJY I also remember favorably from 2021 "Fall in Love" and last year's "Bright Eyes in the Dark" (although I did not finish the latter, just saw a few episodes, and got embroiled in watching other drama and doing other things so the last firefighting story of 2023 - perhaps suffering from the "one too many" curse that year; so, that one was "left on the back-burner until it turned cold": should I reheat it?? )

Are they dropping 4 episodes tonight? Its ep 17- 18 on the 11th.
Yep, my feeling too, it's rather obvious if we connect the dots and look at the picture.
