You do remember that the Divine Dragon imposed a 100 year life on Tianhe? Lingsha died before, she was 17 in the beginning and "only six months" had gone before they sweetly kissed to seal their union. But her fate was to die before she reached 30. She wanted to spend the time remaining for her on Qingluan Peak. So she did, and although the glare from the shooting down of Qionghua probably damaged Tianhe's eyesight, since he had used up most of his supernatural powers, he grew old, after burying his wife. He still protected the living beings in his place where demons and humans were at peace. But of course he would hope to reunite with the spirit of his beloved in the end.
That much was clear to me, no more graphic story needed.
Going into long explanations or adding chapters would not have been possible in a 36 episodes drama. Of course, if you have stamina for 64 like Ashes of Love or such, why not (I do..) ? But these days, there is a limit to max 40, and besides, most audience prefer to rush stories through in 12 or 24 episodes.

The mind's eye can be powerful, also for the visually impaired. Very hopeful and appropriate end. After one life, they can enter a different cycle, since they chose not to ascend as immortals, freed from mortal tribulations, but remain in the fate of their choice.

Mmmm I don't think he was alone for the whole century duration : he did bury her at one time. And waited patiently till he could reunite, as the Dragon had hinted he would meet him again sometime, on the platform to Netherworld. Besides, I'd rather think the glare of shooting down Qionghua affected his eyesight over time, but not necessarily immediately, so going blind in the end of that century was not so inconceivable. He had given up most of his supernatural powers to protect the world, so he was only become an ordinary mortal.
I did not find the end lame. It was just appropriate.

Not much. The whole epic could not be contained in 36 episodes anyway. The choice of iconic events was rather good, and I liked the pace. The end was appropriate to me.

The Goddess/ Fairy Xuan Tian in the end was played by Kathy Chow who was also a singer of some nice songs and covered some very famous ones; these are also linked to her short bio note, opposite the character description, expanded with info adapted from the game description in Baidu.

Yes walking into the sunset was appropriate for someone who had wielded Hou Yi's bow fused with the Chasing Moon one. It was poetic.
I am happy I watched to end, enjoying my time and adding infos for those interested. It was #2 among the c-dramas last week (despite the noxious campaigns about billing and Mao Xiaohui's face, which was fine for me). Perhaps it will remain in the top ten on the count of the coming weekend.
The divine dragon was almost cute: and so appropriate, in anticipation of the year of the Dragon upcoming on Saturday, February 10.

So, it's over, and despite the length - yes I know, there are those who know the game and regret that a whole bunch of events were not included, that the end was not exactly same - I liked it enough to follow it closely and write the long companion piece and illustrated character guide that you can find here, to remember or find out more about them, who played them, sometimes what was in the game, with links to music, ost of coure, but also more, bgm and Mengli's song with konghou accompaniment (+ some info about the instrument and more). In the game Xuan Xiao and Su Yao are both punished to stay in the ocean hell.
As for Tianhe, he was spared, and, I'd rather think it was the blinding glare of the explosion of the flying Qionghua after he shot it to pieces, that caused him to go blind over the next century until he could join his beloved Lingsha in the afterlife.

well, they could have got pronunciation better; I was face palming at the "cheetah sword" and mention of a "Tea, Yam, ho" : did speaker not listen and get the name of our hero properly at least as t'yen-huh! , before attempting to parrot the explanation at the beginning of ep1, while mangling names...

Everything is ready for his defeat as of end ep.27; he will certainly try to squirm and strong-arm his way out, but he is in a tight pinch, so it looks like it is 99% certain he'll end up disbarred, with what Cheng Yao did (but I prefer not to spoil it more : enjoy!)

My Boss just got its opening Douban ratings, not extraordinary good but not bad either, so this ik "okay to watch" :)

Cheng Yao has shown growth in professional ability, in evaluation of situation, and in confidence in herself. She always smiles but by ep.27 her smile can have spiky teeth too!
