In ep.8 Jiaxu said explicitly that he was not an old thing, there was only 5 years difference between them. So, since it's also said he is 24 then, SZ is 19 when she goes to Yihe university, and since its has been 2 years since she flew back after coming to check on him on the pretext of the dating partner and breakup, she was 17 then, and he 22, starting his career and accompanied by his lady boss at the airport (whom SZ mistook for his rumored gf). He could indeed be annoyed that she ghosted his calls for 2 years and after he knew from big brother that she was coming to Yihe. But he is still clueless about the former schoolgirl's crush that now has been rekindled.

There was a lot of criticising "puppy love" in former episodes. Puppy love is an infatuation, generally short lived that can hit children from 5 years old and into adulthood ; that "condition" usually lasts from a few weeks to two years until the "sufferer" finds that the "loved one" is not as admirable as was once imagined and starts getting annoyed at obvious flaws.
True love is supposedly only allowed when reaching legal adult age. Before that, it does happen, but usually has to be repressed publicly, especially if there is a big age difference. But 5 years is not that big a difference.
Among the very big age difference, one example that is being quoted is French president Macron who crushed on his literature teacher when he was 14, and she was almost 40, married with two children of her own. He married her later in 2007 after her divorce with former spouse; it looks like this has kept her fit and looking younger. She is now 70 and he is 45 and it looks like they are not yet tired of being together. Although many find it their business to criticise their match. Of course, they were not intent on repopulating the planet with dozens of kids running in the yard : a dog is enough (and perhaps watching sweet dramas at home, who knows, since there is little risk of an "accident"), which is ecologically and sustainably sound ;-)

As for SEL, I am not far enough into the episodes yet, just making a pause after ep 1 to check what others feel about it. I have neither read the manhua nor watched the donghua versions, not coming habitually from such background, and am too lazy to hunt them up. So it is interesting to read here that the pace could come from that.
It looked like the first episode was nice but childish introduction, so I am not won over yet.
Anyway, I will sit out the next episodes to form an impression. It is too early for me to say I like it or not and I am not watching to assess the use of CGI. The repeated observations here had me think about what I thought about them, and if I think that here, like in many other xuanhuan, xianxia and wuxia, they could be better, they are still not causing me to skip the show altogether.

Those who still love it (I do) are also in nostalgia, not for the ever present in xianxialand flowering cherry tree, flying around and video game style monster and battles, but for the characters, who were very well played by Yang Zi, Deng Lun, Luo Yunxi, Adonis Liao.
Btw after AOL I hoped to see Liao Jinfeng in other dramas, but it looked to me like he had vanished into thin air since 2018... although now checking the relevant MDL page again, I see I missed the 2021 Youku short-short Miss Hua Escaped Marriage Again/Hua Fu Xiao Jie You Tao Hun, perhaps compiled in movie-edition since, and iQiyi full length wuxia Ben Yue, end of 2022, (Oh, that one also had Zhang Binbin as ML! : how could I overlook it? I think I shall be going back in time on a parallel thread then, to check that one out too! 😅)

I expect it will grow to show gratefulness and help in need ?

I rather like Xu Kai, so will stay for some more episodes, watching until 6 since this has been released on the WeTV VIP (with OK subtitling).

Hidden Love starts so well; 6 episodes in and can't wait for the next two (I think that's the plan to treat audiences who will be busy devouring zongzis in front of screens, for Dragon boat festival day June 22.

That scene did not impress me much though.
Was not it shortly after she found out SJ was back and had broken with GY, and a good while before finding the secret but recent pregnancy after kissing GY?
So maybe she was still trying then, in the novelty of reunion, to convince herself that SJ long silence was not a clue that he was just callously using her. But she herself had morphed into an undercover Mata Hari- like spy, while working at the Gu's company and mansion. So I think she was testing him when she indulged in the hug. Same as when seemed to want to believe his lies even in hospital. Old routines that already lacked oil to roll on. She readily admitted to GY that she had lost interest in her past story with SJ and in the heart, when she chose to kiss GY. She had some qualms about chasing off GY next, as the crying behind the wall showed, but she did not relent and let the door remain closed.
But surely: not announcing her pregnancy to either of the two does not look like she deeply loved any of those men, but just was in a quandary about which one to accept next as partner rather than lover, or stay single.
Very cold-hearted, that FL, in my view. Like when she just stone-faced looked on during the rooftop fight. And if she was screaming in the car, when GY was being massacred, that was just for fear for herself, imo... Not much chemistry in that romance despite a well executed kiss that was not as fish like as many other c dramas.
We needed a happy end but I am not sure hooking up with FL was in ML's best sentimental interests, although like in the saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", maybe he was infatuated enough to overlook the ice. As a business partner, maybe she would prove ok, anyway: fit for Fang mama as daughter in law then, despite the lack of guanxi.

Now it looks like schizophrenic love-hate for that drama 🤣
But that's what SAB does end up like for many.

At that point, it did NOT even look like FL cared for SML : she did have doubts about him after having had time to think about his unexplained absence, and it was not for him that she had cried behind the fence.
She was just planning to have a child for herself, now that she had found this unexpected gift from heavens. Not even informing the dad. Hence his suspicion that she might not have wanted the baby at all.
So imo, she is the truly selfish one despite those who thought differently. Let's not have any pity for her mishap, next, but some for the unpleasant one who got manipulated into a fit of spite and jealousy, and who had to bear the full weight of condemnation instead of SML, because of FL's not really admirable hate.

Yes there are many ways to enjoy watching dramas. 🤣🤣🤣
I did enjoy that one also because of the trying to bridge plot holes (purposefully dug to challenge those who don't dig them? it's a gleeful roaller coaster ride like in the Looney tunes cartoon coal mine of yore: jumping from one broken rail end to the next, whooping in loud jubilation !)

After being kept on edge by SAB, I've moved briefly to (and escaped from) a silly "ecological resort" desert island with foaming waves. But must report those were too brackish ones to stay and Wait for the Sea Breeze.
This was not as rosy scented as the Mr. Insomnia cure with lovely dolls, or the Promise in the Summer cure for MDDNKM style haphephobia.
Now awaiting notification for the forecast midsummer excitements with a better Rosy one.
