This drama was a bit lacklustre for me. I'm not crazy about the theme of a teacher/tutor being violent towards his student. I know they're trying to sell the whole 'tough love' or 'doing things differently' thing but does he really have to slap the kid around?
It has no subs and is dubbed over in Russian, though. Still better than nothing I guess because this film is really hard to find. If anyone find link with English subs please let me know :)
If you liked this movie check out Fleeing by Night. It's also about a homosexual opera singer during WW2 who falls inlove with another man. Both are such amazing films.
If you liked Farewell My Concubine, you will love this. The stories are so similar. Wow, this movie had me in tears. I stumbled upon it by chance and realised pretty early on I had found a gold mine. This was just an amazingly beautiful film. It's on gagaoolala or you can rent it on youtube. Trust me, it'll be worth every penny!
Same omgggg I stil don’t understand I felt lin xi and the other guy wr the couple and fang interrupted them…
lol everytime I felt like I was beginning to understand what was going on they threw a scene in which totally messed me up again. As far as I understand it, Hesen and Lin Xi were lovers or good friends who broke up but got back together to film that period movie. The director of that movie is inlove/obsessed with Lin Xi and is jealous of Hesen and Lin Xi's relationship. I could be wrong but that's what I got from the film. It gave me a headache trying to figure it out. I'm just excited to see a LGBTQ+ movie come out of China.
