LOVE everything about your post! You’ve highlighted perfectly all the reasons why I have an issue with this ML despite the fact that I’m very much enjoying the drama.
Love Zhao Lu Si, love that she gets to display her acting chops as the regal and reserved FY.
I actually like WAY too who does a good job portraying the moron that his character is. It’s not his fault his character is a fool and I think he does well to capture the immaturity and severe lack of backbone in the ML.
However ML is the pits here. I really do not care if that twat dies in the end as long as FY survives.
The flip side is that I have no fear of a BE for this drama since I personally want to smack the dumbass ML myself especially after episodes 28/29.
No you do not get to stalk FY and be all in her business whilst looking like a kicked puppy after all the sh$t that you pulled.
Oddly enough I don’t hate the drama. I actually like the fact that Peacock’s motivation is power and she’s not crazily chasing the ML around with some kind of misguided love/obsession. She’s just a shady b$tch who wants to rule.
Why is he even searching for her? He should leave her alone and go his merry way.

I think he’s very young and gullible. I’m enjoying the actor (so handsome) and I think the character is meant to be lame and wishy washy so on that front the actor is doing his job.
To be honest at this point the ML is no worse than YH in Ten Miles who I thought was the absolute pits!!!!! But I generally find xian xia ML’s to be lousy in general. The one in Immortal Samsara was not too bad but in general they are all kinda moronic and sit on an irrelevant high horse. I just ignore it to digest the story otherwise I’d never watch any xian xia 😂

She’s just so natural! No matter what the plot, CGI, co stars, she’s A Yin through and through. That’s what I’ve always loved about her.
She’s also got great chemistry with WAY and on a shallow note they make a gorgeous on screen couple. Beautifully matched in terms of looks and chemistry. I also like that they’re both young and look age appropriate for their roles.
I just finished ep 6 and I’m enjoying the screen time the lead couple are getting. Also like that they’re very touchy, feely even though they’re not technically in love yet.
Up to ep 13 and just logged in to say I'm absolutely in love with this series!!! So well written and acted with a healthy dose of humour. Probably one of my favourites since The Starry Love.
I love all the relationships in the show. The main couple (hahaha love how she gave this long declaration of love because she didn't want him to know she was investigating the apricot tree and pond, Chen and Uncle, Uncle and King, MZH and Shen. The friendships are extremely sweet and these people have great chemistry whether it's romantic or friendship.
Watching ep 8. I'm enjoying the subtly in ML's expressions. That scene where YH and BXS were speaking to him in the cell, you can tell that he's uncomfortable with the new BXS development and kinda wishes it was just back to him and YH. No seething jealousy just.... dissatisfaction with a hint of irritation.
Based on the airing poster for eps 39-40 the ending doesn't seem bad???

I think it's because he was nice to grandma, so she thinks he can't be that bad and she has a tendency to be invested in and helping others. She helped the spirits at the beginning. It's very on brand for her.

This is really a lot of fun! I cracked up when she hauled herself out of the river and was all: Thank goodness I eat and sleep well so I survived the stabbing.
Just finished ep 1. Female lead is absolutely adorable and very natural!!! She's exactly the scrappy young girl she's meant to be.
Male lead is handsome too.
I don't mind the CGI. Sure it's silly but my experiences lately have shown that big budget CGI can't save a ridiculous repetitive and rank plot.
The only thing that gives me pause is how this will end. Chinese dramas have absolutely vile endings and tend to think they're clever delivering these wretched endings. After being burned a few times I'm very skeptical but will continue for the charming female lead.

One of my favorite dramas is A Female Student Arrives at the Imperial College and that was trashed by so many people! I loved loved loved it though. I still rewatch it sometimes. It's such a happy drama. I've never watched or stopped watching a drama based on reviews. I'll give it a go if I feel like it and decide from there.
