I think part that you called “wooden”, it’s because Zhang Zhun doesn’t allow himself to feel and hides behind a mask, that’s why his friend told him “your life was very tough yet you never complain, honestly it’s okay to cry sometimes”, but he is used to not showing anything no matter what and Gao Zhun is his only way to let those emotions run free. The role is what makes him allow himself to feel and finally stop hiding his real emotions. Like Zhen Xin said “did you notice that you want to be with me every second in the movie, but run away from me in reality? I will wait for you to come to me”. Zhang Zhun also wants to see him every second, but he doesn’t allow himself. He’s incredibly expressive as ZZ too tho when Zhang Zhun lets himself go, like in episode 3 when he seduces Zhen Xin, the man is pure sin, those eyes, it’s one of the best performances. So yeah, both are incredibly talented.
Tbh his performance of Zhang Zhun impressed me the most, bc imo he’s the hardest to portray out of 4 in the novel. It’s also very sad too. Bc like in the last episode you know he felt horrible reliving his own trauma too while playing GZ, but when he goes “give me 3 minutes” he immediately apologises in a haste and I can also see every tiny moments where he really wants ZX, but has to restrain himself, it’s all so good. I think people will understand him more as it goes, bc once you have the whole picture a lot of moments will be seen in a new light. And there is a dark side in him too, which he also shows incredibly, but it can’t be obvious and you can see at times, but only if you look closely.
Just a quote for everyone to see how fucked up BOTH FC&GZ are bc some here think that FC is the only satan here and GZ is a saint (lol):

And mind you they’re like the darkest mirrors of ZX & ZZ. It’s not only about being deep into the role and how FC & GZ affected them. It’s also about their lives having too many similarities. Like for example Gao Zhun’s rapist was the head of the martial arts club and Zhang Zhun himself was used as a sex doll while he was in a martial arts club. ZX having same ringtone on his phone as FC, just many big and small aspects of their lives which all existed before them even picking up the “script”.
Too many parts of their stories are similar, but it’s interesting also how FC & GZ’s story in someone else’s interpretation would probably be much harsher. ZX & ZZ actually add softness to FC & GZ while FC & GZ in return give them the kick in the butt to act on their deep desires and be free. You could say it’s a perfect but fucked up balance. Like in the last episode where ZX argues with the director about his interpretation, he already projects his own feelings on FC, not the other way around. But the director says “at the end it’s just different words but same destination”.
also love how a lot of people are so focused on Fang Chi and Zhen Xin that Gao Zhun and Zhang Zhun’s with their plans to make their men obsessed with them only completely flies under the radar for most even though it’s been hinted so many times 🤣 they be catching strays left in right meanwhile the “innocent” puppeteers have them right where they want them.

the whole story has a lot of unexpected twists and Gao Zhun like it was said in the second episode is not innocent either, it’s all not black and white, which makes it even more interesting although yes the story is very unapologetically immoral, but not in the usual toxic Chinese BL style where rape is major part of the main characters relationships thankfully. If you’re looking for professionalism in therapy and on set than it’s definitely not the correct place lol. But if you’re looking for an incredibly intense and really unexpected story twists with incredibly interesting characters, where no one is a mop than it is for you
I think it means that Zhang Zhun will soon tell Zhen Xin about his past too and I sincerely hope they won’t show it like with Gao Zhun bc I don’t want two traumas in two days 😔

I feel they need 2 seasons for this series. I’m not a novel reader but people are saying there’s still more…
But then the whole beauty and the point of it will be lost. Fang Chi and Gao Zhun’s love story is what pushed Zhen Xin and Zhang Zhun’s story and by them going side by side (in the novel it was 1 chapter FC/GZ, 1 chapter ZX/ZZ) it shows a lot of parallels and feelings intertwining which would make no sense if you pull one story out. That’s the magic of these stories. The way they show it is incredible. It gives you perspectives on both stories. Like where Gao Zhun struggling to admit that he needs Fang Chi is the time where ZZ is struggling with the same about ZX. When GZ has an erotic dream about FC and realised that he loves him, it’s the moment when ZZ after thinking he had a sex dream about ZX (which was real sex) starts thinking he has feelings for him. Etc. The whole thing is very complex in the best way possible.
Just like Zhen Xin repeats some of Fang Chi’s words irl, notice how Gao Zhun says “I want you to look only at me”, because this is the voice of what Zhang Zhun is not saying. In episode 3 when Zhen Xin starts ignoring him after getting upset that he doesn’t remember their night together, Zhang Zhun starts being irritated that he’s not all over him as usual and it’s not because he’s super nice and can’t handle people being mad at him, he also same as GZ wants Zhen Xin to be obsessed only with him which will later be revealed. But you can guess a lot of fun things beforehand if you watch closely all 4 of these ppl 😌

I’m still stuck on this awesome “Die For You” soundtrack during their first time. Like where did they even find it?
