There's a 40 episode limit, they'd have to split into 2 parts but 2 part dramas haven't done too well.
I know about the episode limit that’s is why I said they should have spent less time on the other parts and allocate time to the later years to balance it out properly. I mean good balanced stories are told in miniseries all the time talk more of a 36 episode drama. Some scenes felt like they were just buying time.

I wished they spent more time I. The 60s and 80s timeline and less on the whole other plot lines they introduced earlier.

Also, I got irked by the ending of her sister, not realistic at all. No one who just gave birth is comfortable enough to sit on a dinner table and have dinner, or even caring for other people beyond herself. She will be in so much pain and discomfort to even be able to think of anything straight other than her pain.

Then, no narrative of her kids, mother-inlaw or other kids she raised. But then, seems the production team didn’t care too much for this drama, they even released it too quickly so it can finish fast 🤭.

Overall, not bad. But, towards the last 5 episodes or so, it got plagued by the usual bad wrapping up of C-dramas. In all my years of watching C-dramas, I can still count on my fingers the few dramas that wrap up their storytelling properly.
They still have a long way to go in this aspect.

On the positive side of things, the cast were spectacular and everyone brought their A-Game. It felt like I was living in that era with them as I watched. I felt every struggle and emotions.

I hope the casts are all proud of this work they did. Shame that the crew ruined some parts in the production process.

I sometimes enjoy breaking cases C-drama, but this was one was so different from the types I have seen. I mostly like different cases solved each for a couple of episodes, but this one had only one case and it was somewhat boring for me in some parts. Watched it all because I had invested a bit of my time in it already.
Also, sometimes the characters (esp. the 1st FL) acted like they are not supposed to be detectives, 🤦‍♀️! Anyway, glad to have I finished it.

Tietou is so funny. With just a new formed association he’s already trying to wield too much power. He’s even worse than the landlords he’s trying to fight. If anything, I will say he’s jealous and if the reverse was the case he will be a dictator landlord.

I do not know much about China’s land reforms, but this idea of forcing permanent residency ( even if the tenant defaults with rent like Tietou) is weird to me. That demand doesn’t even sound legal. Reduced rent is fair or demands for non-exploitation I can understand. However, no one grants permanent residency to their tenants just like that, farmer or regular tenant.

No, it wasn’t mainly about her being a daughter. The drama was about the wedding that was about to take place…
I understand you. Women were never desired at that period. But your comment mentioned the drama, which was why my reply focused on what the drama showed. The two episodes were not unrealistic to me. That people in that era didn’t value daughters, doesn’t mean that there weren’t parents/ mothers who wanted their daughters regardless. Her father’s action isn’t even about she being female, he just placed much value on his lands (even if he has a lot of them).

I mean, his only son went to fight bandits to save his sister and he didn’t even stop him, knowing he could be killed and left without a son.

So, while in that era (and this was almost everywhere in the world) , men had more value, in this drama, it was more about the father’s personality and character. Which is what the drama was showing us. He didn’t even value his wife or son.

In old China, daughters weren’t valued much—if one was lost, families often just relied on another for marriage.…
No, it wasn’t mainly about her being a daughter. The drama was about the wedding that was about to take place and how not saving her before dark would me she’s been defiled. Makes sense to me. Considering she was supposed to marry into a wealthy family who already gave them land as part of her dowry.
Moreover, only her father was not willing to sell his land. All the male elders wanted to.

What a good first 5 episodes.I can't wait for the rest. I am sure I need to prepare a lot of tissue. The first five already had me crying.

The concept of this show was my favourite thing about it. I also like they kept the ML consistent in how he acts. He’s a survivor with survivor instinct since the Mo man tried to possess him. He never lets his guard down with anyone at all. The narration and inner monologues were a nice touch and part of the things I loved too.

Overall, I enjoyed this drama and didn’t pay attention much to the green screen like sceneries. The story held me well enough.
Hope part 2 will be soon.

On another note, I was crying a lot when his Master died and the speech he gave before. Such a touching moment.

I liked season 2. But I agree that season 1 was somewhat better.Isn't that the case with many dramas that have…
True. Sadly 😮‍💨

It's you who didn’t understand it bcz they didn’t explain it straightforwardly. He Rufei was not ML's 'fellow…
Avoid my rant if you want to be rude. I don’t have time to deal with super fans who are childish and don’t know how to respect people’s ranting space.
Thinking every rant is about their faves or whatever. 🤦‍♀️

My rant and my prerogative to rant on whatever show I am watching. Last I checked, this is a public forum. I can also watch what I want. You don’t have the right to comment on what I can or can’t watch. Or comment on either.

The ridiculousness of Ep.1. Suddenly a fellow comrade can’t recognise or know the voice has changed or even the stature 🤣. C-drama land pleeeasssee! They could at least have worn the FL costumes to bulk her up and have a similar male stature (Hollywood is good at this). Instead c-dramaland often focus on keeping the FLs pretty instead of making them look realistic as what they portray.

Anyway, I will stick around for the story and see if that will make me ignore this terrible costuming of casts.

Well you have to also remember that ML and FL have barely had any screen time together. You can't expect feelings…
No, she did. She explained it to ML that the sac (from the dragon-like animal they killed) has aphrodisiac and when it broke, it turned them both on (for lack of a better word). They both know they slept together, that is why she threatened him to not mention it again. It's also why she can't get him out of her mind (she recalls the intimacy).

OMG! Today's episode made the 1 episode release bearable. So much badassery was going on. In this show, I am more immersed in the story than the cast. An impressive show so far.

It's already episode 8 but Wang Duo's character still no appearance , I'm little disappointed. I'm thinking to…
Wasn’t he the ghost spirit that showed up earlier (his face was shifting and not still. Wearing white)? Tried to kill ML then before the lady with core formation intervened. During the fight with the Rogue sect founder.

Came to see how many episodes this episode this will have, and it’s just 30. Yet, almost 1/3 of the show, and it feels like the story is moving so slow for how much storyline I feel would be told.
Unless there will be a 2nd season, if not, the show will probably not be wrapped properly.

On a positive note, I like the side narration by the ML. I wonder if it’s his real voice.
