This definitely isn't the worst Pinoy BL, but I never felt invested in any of the relationships. The story felt very contrived, forced and the constant crying was exhausting. But it's fine to pass the time.
This show keeps getting better and better. The characters are soooooo well written and the acting is light years better than what we usually get in Thai BLs. Even though I started watching for YinWar (they're doing a fantastic job!), Mark is stealing the show in every scene he's in! I absolutely LOVE his character and the progress between Tattoo and Aran. I also love Toey Ting and grandma. They're the best fujoshis I've seen in a BL since Chu from Century of Love.
But my favorite thing about the show is that it shows the lives of poor people. Thai BLs mostly focus on rich characters, but poor people exist in Thailand and it feels so authentic to watch show that shows less glamorous parts of Bangkok. I can't wait until the next episode!
The flaws of Hidden Moon remind me of so many other low-rated Thai BLs that have aired in recent years. When a company decides to create a series and hires a screenwriter with no previous BL experience and only 1 series with a rating above 7.5, a director whose only previous directing experience was "Low Frequency" a series with a rating of 6.5 and a cast full of mostly amateurs, the outcome is obvious before the first workshop.
I have no idea if the original story is written in a more coherent way than the series has been. I also don't know if even skilled actors could have done a much better job with such a poorly written script. But I do think the company could have done a better job with hiring qualified people and that would have led to a better series overall. But that didn't happen, the actors seem to be trying to convey something and I'm just watching because I've made it this far and the premise is intriguing. But I'd be surprised if most people remember this show once it's over or if anyone has it on their best of 2024 list at the end of the year.
I hope everyone who can afford it, plans to watch the series legally and support it on all your social media accounts. It will be available on viki standard pass: https://www.viki.com/tv/40771c-love-in-the-big-city
Honestly, compared to other Pinoy BL Shows this one is good. If you compare it to other countries, sure the quality…
I'm not trying to be rude, but Oxin Films have been making series for over 5 years and there have been Pinoy BLs for longer than that. They aren't just starting to make series for the first time now. The company could have made a better series, but they chose not to. So I personally won't be giving them a pass or an A for effort. Sky Valley is Oxin's 6th BL with a wide release and it's also their lowest rated series on MDL, there's a reason for that.
Easily the worst Pinoy BL since Our Story. Oxin gets worse every time they make a new series, but this was hours and hours of nothing. The guy who was obsessed with Paris, needs to find another career. He's worse at acting than middle schoolers in a play. I'm not writing a lot because Oxin didn't care enough to make a watchable series, so I don't care enough to spend a lot of time writing about how truly awful this was. I give this a 1/10, only because MDL won't allow me to give it a ZERO.
This series is giving me "so bad, it's good vibed" and I'm having a great time. Everything screams low budget and amateur and I'm ok with that. I'm looking forward to episode 4.
This feels like a blend of the below average Chinese BLs that existed before the ban and the iphone "BLs" that have come out since the ban. Anyone who has watched Chinese BLs and Taiwanese BLs can easily tell that this is a Chinese production that was released or distributed by a company in Taiwan. No Taiwanese company would make something so amatuer in terms of production/quality.
I'll stick with mainly because it gives me a bit of nostalgia for the old low budget Chinese BLs and it's really short so I probably won't get bored by lots of filler.
After 10 minutes, I don't have anything nice to say about Yoon So or his attitude, but the premise is pretty interesting. And after an almost complete KBL drought for most of the year, I'm definitely gonna watch this one.
I really hope that everyone who wants KBLs to have longer episodes, more episodes or even more KBLs getting made, actually watch this legally if available in your country. The more viewers, the higher the chances that more companies make KBLs and with bigger budgets.
This was fine. Sweet, simple and uncomplicated. It's not a series that will stick with me even after a week, but it was an easy watch and a lot better than many other BLs.
I just finished the series and feel pretty conflicted. Watching this as a coming of age story with bormance, it was nearly perfect for me. The acting especially from Benjamin was exceptional throughout. I cared so much about the leads, the family and all the students. But some other aspects left me feeling lukewarm overall.
I have not read the novel and knew nothing about the story in advance. In the beginning, I really appreciated how realistic the school scenes were. Every episode made me feel like I was back in high school, for better and worse. But I started this thinking I'd be watching a BL and that never really happened. Every scene with the teachers bored me to tears. The constant tests and lectures started to drain my enthusiasm for the series at around the half way point. And that's when it became obvious that this wasn't a BL.
I guess that's fine, but when I watch a series with two people who clearly love each other very much, but I never get to see them as a couple, I'm gonna be disappointed. As others have said, season 2 is not guaranteed. Anyone who has been watching BL long enough knows that many great shows never get a season 2 even when it's promised and when there is a season 2, it's often pretty disappointing compared to season 1.
Personally, I would have preferred more episodes in season 1 or less time focused on the teachers and more focused on the students than 12 episodes and maybe another season. But I know we can't always get what we want. If there is another season, I'll watch it. Either way, Jiang Tian was an amazing character and I'll remember him when I think of this series.
These episodes are soooo boring. The premise is fine, but the editing, writing and acting are taking me out of the series. Idk why the plot is unfolding like this and I'm starting not to care. Even with the random relationship development of the leads at the end of the episode, it all felt empty and uninteresting. If next week isn't more engaging, I'll probably drop this one.
This series felt special from start to finish. Another reminder of why 2024 has been the best year of BL so far!!!! This is definitely one of my top 5 series of the year. It was heartbreaking, riveting, depressing, beautiful, tragic, incredible and very memorable. I could write pages about the final episodes, the characters and the spectacular writing. But I think the series says it all.
If you are prepared for very mature content and complex characters and situations, I highly recommend this show.
You can wait till the whole series is out to actually get the story. This is the beginning and the plot is still…
If you walk into a museum, people will be discussing the art. Some may love it, some may hate it, many will feel a variety of emotions. Art is subjective and just like people are allowed to share their thoughts and feelings about paintings and sculptures, they can share their thoughts and feelings about movies and tv shows.
If they want to "complain" after 1 episode, 3, 10 or when it ends, they are entitled to do that. If they love a show, hate it or anything in between, they are allowed to express that. And you are allowed to disagree with their opinions. But telling someone you don't know who has not had the same life experiences as you, that their opinion is wrong is absurd and not helpful.
Unless you were a part of the cast/crew any criticism of the show is not directed towards you. And should not impact your life or viewing experience.
Yes, your account being brand new does matter. You behaving like you are the authority on how people can use MDL when you just started using MDL is ridiculous. You don't control anyone here except yourself. And you are showing all of the rest of us that you have limited internet/MDL etiquette by behaving this way. People evolve over time, your perspective after only seeing a few shows is bound to be different than someone who has seen 100s. Neither perspective is right or wrong, but your perspective as a person new to the site and potentially new to the genre does not supersede anyone else's.

P.S. I hope people are watching on youtube!
