I watched this when it originally aired and forgot to finish the last two episodes. Now that I've finished the series, I feel like I wasted 4 hours of my life. IMO the series tried to do a lot of things and mostly forgot to be a BL.
I try to give Korean BLs the benefit of the doubt because I know it's not easy for them to make BLs and that many series that do get made face backlash which is often directed towards the actors. I didn't dislike the show, but I wanted more focus on the pairs and less on the villains/antagonists.
I'll probably forget about this in a few days but it was ok.
I just binged this because it didn't hold my interest when it originally aired. I've seen all of the BLs from the 4 leads and I can honestly say JoongDunk were the only reason I stuck with it.
I am a big fan of FirstKhao, but I never believed Khao as a contract killer. But I do think JoongDunk's acting improved A LOT. And their performances in this show were the best I've seen from them so far. Both of their characters worker really well and their scenes together felt natural. Watching Style and Fadel's relationship grow over time was enjoyable. I also liked Babe and Style's dad, but the other side characters gave me nothing.
I know this is based on a novel and I appreciate it when GMMTV makes BLs that aren't set in high school or college. But when they do other types of stories, it usually feels like they had a cool idea, did zero research and just used a little kid's idea of whatever the setting/topic would be. Which is why the scenes in the restaurant were more believeable than any of the hitman scenes. And why the prison felt more like a summer camp for adults than a real jail/prison.
Overall, it was fine and I'm sure people who wanted to see these actors half naked many times throughout the series were satisfied, but I wouldn't rewatch this.
Non-stop music playing in the background, characters that are bickering immediately, "suddenly I'm afraid of getting a tan", nope, not for me, strong pass!!!! It feels like Taiwanese BLs peaked with Unknown and have been stagnant or going downhill ever since.
I'd rather rewatch something better than waste time on another VBL production that is pretty much the same as all their other series.
Agreed! Sadly so far there are way to many questions. I feel like the grandma wants Fifa to take over but that…
That's true, there's probably only about 3 hours of show left. Overall, I don't dislike it. So I can get through it unless they do something egregious.
Exactly. My biggest question after the first episode was, why are the parents behaving that way? The complete…
A good script is so hard to come by in BL. But maybe they'll all get a better series in the future.
Unfortunately Gio is getting more scene time in Sashes and Hearts than the leads are. The plot is paper thin and the side characters are insufferable. I can honestly say that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

"This just feels like the numerous series that has a thin plot with a predictable ending." Yup! I think many of us thought of 1000 stars and I can't imagine that many people would think this is on par with that series. It may get better, but I'd be surprised if it does.
I kept thinking why the grandma expects him to fall in love with the place if they keep making things difficult…
If the story gets more interesting in the upcoming episodes, I'll be happy to come on here and change my opinion. Fingers crossed that we get an interesting backstory and a reason to be invested in the love between the leads.
"The humor does not translate and most GMMTV writers aren't able to improve the story."The Hong Kong version was…
Yeah. That was the writing choice that confused me the most. Why take a story that is known for the bickering/fighting between two of the leads and basically erase that from the story. It was so central to building and growing the relationships between the 3 characters that removing undermines the entire premise of the series.
I will never understand why 2 decent writers accepted this project, changed it so drastically and created this script. But it happened and I'll think twice before watching another comedy written by these people.

I'm sure someone will be triggered by me writing this, but I felt like Heng was a vulnerable adult. In need of a strong support system, which is exactly what he never got. The boss was creepy (even though he was my favorite character in the original). And Mo was insufferable and very unlikeable for the majority of the series. I think the writing for all 3 characters didn't resonate like it should have.
I can't speak on the Hong Kong version. But for me, the dynamics between the 3 leads in the original made it fun and entertaining. The dynamics between the 3 leads in this one were a miss from start to finish.

The leads were adorable. I'd watch them if they made another series together. But I've completely given up on Oxin. Sashes and Hearts was too much even for me!

You're stronger than me for getting through Sangmin Dinneaw. I liked the main characters, but I had to drop it when the side characters got introduced at the hotel. But I do remember there being hints about Sangmin's backstory early on. Which is MUCH more than we've gotten from this mess.
I kept thinking why the grandma expects him to fall in love with the place if they keep making things difficult…
Great question. This feels like indentured servitude or an outdoor prison. Not the type of place or situation where a city kid with aspirations to go to Japan wants to stay in long term.
The 10 seconds they spent on Hem's backstory was fine, but it doesn't make me forget how he behaved during the rest of the episode. Idk what power he's supposed to have on the farm. But it seems like it took him more than a day to learn the ropes. So it seems ridiculous that he expects a kid to learn everything immediately.
I won't be at all surprised if/when Hem "saves" Fifa in the shower and they start to fall for each other 🙄.

I can't even guess how many times I've been attacked on here when I point out that the writer of a series doesn't know the basics of writing. No one can convince me that most BL writers have taken and passed even one college level writing course. IMO there is no excuse to greenlight and air a series when the writer's approach is "fuck it who cares about them and look at the pretty scenery". But with 5 more episodes and "study abroad" lurking in the background, it feels like this is as good as it gets.
With more episodes, I'd be less critical. But we're rapidly running out of time and there are too many whys and I just don't care about any of it at this point.
The only issue I have with this series is that we're two episodes in already of a listed 7 episode total and they…
Exactly. My biggest question after the first episode was, why are the parents behaving that way? The complete lack of details regarding the family dynamics makes it impossible for me to just go with the story. The parents are in their 40s -50s and seem healthy. They may even have jobs. So why are they allowing his mother to treat all of them so badly and letting their child go to this farm?
Part of me really wants to know why. The other part of me thinks the writer won't bother to give a real answer. But it's very distracting and Hem's behavior in episode 2 only makes me have more questions. With a runtime this short, it's hard for me to think that the audience will get satisfactory answers. But it does look great.
It really shows that this was written by someone who's never worked on a BL before. Everything looks beautiful, but it's lacking in ways that matter in a BL.
So far, this feels like a new game filled with endless side quests, NPCs and two mean characters trying to hurt the protagonist. I've never once watched a BL to see a parent or grandparent. I've seen the actress who plays the grandma in plenty of series, but it feels like her character is too central to this series. Fifa is only there because of her and she has done nothing to help or prepare him for the farm. Listening to her nagging and Hem yelling for most of the series was exhausting and unenjoyable.
Many BLs have a enemies to lovers theme. And I'd expect the leads to not get along, then bicker, then fall in love. The problem is these two are missing the spark that would make me want to watch them fall in love. Hem seems inconvenienced and Fifa seems out of his depth and he is because no one is actually helping him! I'm gonna stick with this for now, but I don't think this is going to improve.
"But I really hope GMMTV stops remaking Japanese series."Well, they chose the top 3 Japanese BLs to adapt, so…
I've seen so many fantastic JBLs that it's impossible for me to say which ones would be the best to adapt. But I also hope that GMMTV is satisfied with what they created and don't try to do it again. And I'm glad that EarthMix got to do roles that challenged them. Based on what I heard them say, both actors wanted the roles and enjoyed making the series.
The outcome left a lot to be desired IMO. But it's over now and I'm hoping to enjoy their next series much more than this one.

My comment definitely wasn't paid for and I also love EarthMix. But I sincerely hope that GMMTV doesn't do anymore Japanese remakes.
