That ending was as generic and bland as the rest of the series. I'm not sure why I stuck with this one, but I'll probably forget that I watched it in a few days.
Because EarthMix will always be my OTP, I go out of my way to find something I like in each episode. This week that was harder than usual. Outing your significant other without their permission will always frustrate me as a viewer. But I can give it a pass in this case because both characters have done it and it hasn't caused conflict between them.
One positive I did see was another example of how the writers include call backs to EarthMix's previous roles and their real lives. Mix is from Lampang and they have talked about visiting there together many times. So for me, seeing that play out in the series was sweet.
Lu Xi is just spoiled. If you really think about him and his older brother's situation, Lu Xi should be a bit…
I agree, he is spoiled and very immature. Which is why seeing him in an adult relationship is very jarring. Everything that has happened in the series shows me that he is not ready for a romantic relationship with an adult. And his brother not objecting to the relationship in any way is also odd. Since the brother knows better than anyone how childish Lu Hui is.
The longer this goes on, the more it feels like the screenwriter is playing a joke on the audience. Things are happening, but they completely omitted giving any of the 4 leads motivation. It feels like both couples are together because of proximity and nothing more.
I can imagine a decent script about two innocent naive brothers in a small village who meet two guys and over time (more than a month) grow, mature, develop feelings and fall in love. A series where the widower, at the very least has an internal monologue about how/why he can go from loving his dead wife and in a matter of a few days want to spend the rest of his life with a man. A series where a guy in his mid-twenties who isn't a pedo, develops feelings for an 18 year old who behaves like an 8 year old and gives up his dreams to be with that child.
But we didn't get that series. We got Impression of Youth. A story where things happen to move the plot along and race to a finish line that feels like it can't come fast enough. Great series make viewers invested in the characters and give you a reason to root for the relationships. This show has never done that. These people don't exist in the real world and neither do these relationships. It all feels hollow and contrived. And since I thought episode 8 was the finale, I'm extra irritated knowing I have to wait another week for the very obvious conclusion π
Omg!!!! I absolutely adored sooooo much of this series. I tried watching it when it originally aired and dropped…
I've seen Pond in multiple series and loved him every single time. I've seen Earth in multiple series and always liked him. I thought he had amazing chemistry with Santa in My Only 12%. I've tolerated him being typecasted for years, but Hill and Easter were the only terrible thing about this series.
I think one of them was completely miscast or the character was the only one in the series that was poorly written. It was truly shocking to watch two couples with basically the same storyline and history and have one be flawless and the other be a snoozefest. Both actors delivered their lines, but everything they said felt generic and unbelievable.
Watching a 28 year old man behave like a chasted 12 year old was constantly grating and took me out every time he came on screen. I have no idea why their backstory had to be soooo convoluted and stretched out, but the first 6 episodes should have been condensed to 2. I also don't understand how Pond delivered most of his lines with a simmering sexual energy to someone who behaved like holding hands was too provocative. Their energies never matched and that was always jarring.
I'm really glad Pond has a new series coming soon with a new partner. And I'm even happier that Earth will be playing a different kind of character in his next role. I will watch both shows and wish both actors endless success. I think it's unfortunate that their characters were the only skippable part of this series and the only reason it doesn't have a much higher rating. But overall, the series is close to perfect because of everyone else and I can't wait to rewatch it and skip every scene with the leads.
I really want to give this series a 10, but I'm deducting 2 points because of Hill and Easter's relationship taking up so much screen time, so I'm giving it an 8.
Omg!!!! I absolutely adored sooooo much of this series. I tried watching it when it originally aired and dropped it before the second couple got screen time. I'm kinda glad I waited to watch it because binging the series was so wonderful.
I literally can't remember the last time I fell so in love with a couple in a Thai series, but Johan and North completely, totally, 100% stole my heart! I know most BLs have the same plot and I've seen so many college stories with gears, hazing, rich semes, and whiney/childlike ukes that it's hard to get excited watching another one. But the reason BL can be so great is because some couples transcend everything and have a beautiful love story.
I've seen most of Bas' series and he pretty much always plays the same character from the original 2 Moons. But North is nothing like Wayo and I love that! It's so rare to see two characters completely in sync, honest and vulnerable with each other. It's obvious to everyone that they're perfect for each other and seeing them happy together was all I wanted. Not having a random ex-girlfriend or parent ruin the relationship towards the end of the series was exactly what I wanted. The realistic physical intamacy between two horny college guys that wasn't over the top or raunchy was exactly what I wanted. If they had been leads from the beginning of the series, I would have given this a 10.
I also really liked their friend groups and families. The people around them made their relationship feel more realistic. And the fact that their friends had their own lives and other things going on was also really great. I'm looking forward to the next stories to see more development in the other relationships. I reslly CANNOT wait for Arthit and Dao, I've loved them since Love Sick season 2 π₯°π₯°! And the pilot for The Sun From Another Star looks AMAZING!
I'm gonna say a bit about the first couple below because I only want to say positive things about the series in this post.
Knowing in advance how this would play out didn't make it any less frustrating to watch. Hate me if you want, but from my perspective it feels like the entire relationship has been on Doha's terms. He knew his friend liked someone else and asked him out anyway. Knowing that would change their entire relationship. He kept this massive secret all this time and from U Hyeon's perspective now he's just randomly breaking up with him. I wouldn't want to be U Hyeon dealing with Doha's mood swings and whims everyday.
Also, maybe it's because studying aboard is really uncommon in my country and because I know life is short and years apart is a really long time. But "study aboard" the BL trope I hate the most! It pretty much always feels like a crutch for writers who can't bother to provide a resolution for their characters. And when the guy returns both almost always have lived their lives in a holding pattern during the time apart. It's completely unrealistic and always takes me out of a story.
After 6 great episodes, episode 7 was a bit of a let down for me. Both pairs needed closure, but the conversation between Sei and the roommate could have been cut in half. And the remainder of the time could have been spent with the main characters. But the writer wrote the story they wanted to, so it is what it is.
I do wonder why the writers believe the bl audience is interested in that kind of female character. Takes screen…
I've always wondered why she exists in countless BLs. But since that type of character exists in BLs from every country that makes BLs, my guess is that she appeals to the segment of viewers who want to be reminded of hetero normative relationships. The ones who love to see two guys kiss on tv, but aren't allies to gay people irl. Or the viewers who think one day the guy they like will "grow out of it" and marry them. Sadly, I think that character is gonna be around for a long time. Because for some people she makes the series seem more "normal" π.
"But I will say that I will ALWAYS be irritated when a BL shoehorns in a pathetic/entitled woman who's been pining…
I think you're right. There are people out there who just can't take a hint. And still hold out hope after years of never making it out the friendzone. I can imagine that people like that would identify with this character. While I find her to be extremely pointless since we know she isn't endgame for YuXing, I was able to fast forward through most of her scenes without missing the story .
Sigh, we really have reached the point where a certain segment of the viewing audience MUST see themselves reflected in series to enjoy them. That concept is foreign to me because I've always been drawn to series and movies about characters whose lives/experiences are different than mine, but it is what is. It's obvious that some people think an 18 year old behaving like that is cool. And I'm glad they're enjoying the character.

I love that little gay bar!
