I found 2011 kdrama High Kick season 1,2,3 and wow why Koreans dont make dramas like that anymore. Plus, no thick white powder on faces, and ppl with normal bodies, not skin and bnes like so many actors now.

It is sad that this is one of more charming kdramas these days...

I just watched an older kdrama High Kick 3 and it cannot possibly compare with this drama - and many new kdramas... the older ones are just so much more vibrant and funny and deep. More INTRICATE

Koreans are trying to make $$$ and whitewashing their dramas to suit Western audience , and in that, kdramas really go down the drain hole... Western audience comes from Hwood and is 100% clueless and so their requests for drama plots etc are so ... stale... and so ... kdramas went so stale...

and I understand what you are missing.
Kdramas are trying to make $$$$ and so are adjusting the plot to Western audience, which comes to kdramas from Hwood and totally clueless,

so yeah new kdramas are ruined big time.

Well I am not a medical professional and have no experience with amnesic patients. To me, MJ does not look like such a severe case since the doctors are not all around him all the time and he is allowed to have visitors and there is no doctor standing there watching what visitors say.

The bottom line is:
Are the only two choices KEEP SILENT OR TELL EVERY DETAIL? Let's not think black and white like that. There is the MIDDLE WAY. that is the razor's edge way and the hardest way.

I would not tell MJ every detail of his past with Yu Na.
But I WOULD tell him that YuNa was someone he disliked in the past bc she did not behave honorably.
I would tell him that he knew Chloe.

Ah you really missed the point. Yeah lies are global but generally they are considered bad, except little white lies to make life more pleasant, like "oh you look wonderful today" etc. This is a huge topic bc some cultures are ridden with ppl lying a lot, and some are more straight forward.

But I was not talking about that. I was talking about this specific kind of lying that is SOCIETALLY APPROVED AND EXALTED AS AN EXEMPLARY SACRIFICE, an exemplary consideration for another, where person A lies about VERY BIG IMPORTANT FACTS straight to face of person B so that person B "would not suffer".
A very Japanese concept

and a MAJOR staple trope in so many kdramas. But quite rare anywhere outside of East Asia.

One current example is kdrama Sold Out on You. 4 guys A B C and D had a company that made facial creams. Guy D put something bad into the cream and caused permanent damage to all ppl who used it. Guy A discovered that, BUT to save guys B and C from stress, guy A TOOK THE BLAME ON HIMSELF.
So guess what ... guys B and C suffered for years, thinking they made bad creams and damaged ppl...
and D came back years later and repeated the same thing to B and C's company - and destroyed them.

you totally missed the point of my post. I was NOT talking about lying in general.
I was talking about the specific kind of lying where person A is lying straight to face of person B, out of consideration for person B, to save person B from pain, AND person A is considered to have sacrificed themselves for a good cause and is considered a societal saint.

THAT is totally toxic and stupid and dangerous and leads to huge problems later.

Of course ppl are ppl everywhere and all the same, but different cultures value and PRAISE different things.
I am talking statistics now. There are always individuals who differ, but I am talking statistically greatest possibility

For example: all cultures cheat on their spouses but ... French flaunt their side kicks and take them around in public and kinda brag, and it is expected to have a mistress. While white Americans cringe, bc they keep their side kicks top secret.
For example, everyone loves money! But in the USA, it is a good thing to talk about money and how much you have etc and brag about it. In France, it is a crude thing to talk about money.

So yeah - ppl lie everywhere and yeah they will lie pretending to be nice to someone and saving them, or even genuinely believe their lie is saving the other person.

But what I am talking about is this SPECIFIC kind of "my lying out of consideration for you is such a ***commendable sacrifice*** worth a gold star in social points", so commonly PRAISED and EXALTED in kdramas, and so commonly used for kdrama plots.
That whole approach is sooo Japanese...

Have you seen that so much in Turkish, Indian, Spanish, Brazilian, or American dramas and movies? But it is such a commonly repeated plot in kdramas. THAT is what I was talking about.

There are so many kdramas with this plot where people lie "out of consideration" straight to someone's face "to save them from pain" And they are portrayed as saints, sacrificing themselves for others. AND IT IS CONSIDERED A GOOD THING, the society approves it and praises it.
THAT kind of praise I have never seen anywhere except in kdramas and things Japenese, and I suspect any other Asian cultures that are on the "super extra polite" side, like Vietnam, Indonesia, etc. I have never been physically to Asia except in Japan, but I know a lot of Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Indonesians who live/visit USA.

I can sign on the dotted line that lying like that is not even a concept in the USA or Eastern Europe or Africa and I would say, Latin America too. Ppl would no even THINK of doing that and certainly would not praise anyone doing that.....
Yeah they will like to kiss up, to butter up, etc but NOT to intentionally sacrifice themselves to save another from perceived pain - that style of enabling is a truly signature toxic trait of siper extra polite Asian cultures

East Asian cultures are super high on consideration to others, and that is a good trait, anything west of East Asia could use A LOT more of that lmao
but then East Asia went so much overboard with the concept and turned it into something super toxic

And please explain to me, how is it possible that people close to you intentionally LIE straight to your face, and make decisions for you what you should know and what you should not know.
