In the novel, XiaoXingChen died by his own sword through suicide after he realized that:
(1) He had killed SongLan
(2) XueYang was the one he was besties with in Yi City
(3) The ones he killed in Yi City weren't technically dead dead

XueYang had always being fascinated in some way with XiaoXingChen. During their 3 years living in Yi City, that feeling morphed into genuine affection, to the extent that someone like him is capable of such feelings, that is.

CQL is a masterpiece because it transcends WangXian. We have 3 bromance trios that are compelling in their own right:
(1)JC-WY-LZ
(2) XY-XXC-SL and to a lesser extent
(3) JGY-LXC-NMJ

Ep25, just before the half-way mark.

Not really. ZhiJi translates to "soulmates".

Perhaps revulsion towards predatory behavior is universal after all. Just that the concept of the alluring nymphet named Lolita is more familiar to Westernized folks.

What happens in this drama differs slightly from what happens in the book, imho.

WeiYing would die at Nightless Sky in Ep 33, methinks. Instead of dying at Burial Mound. In the book, LanZhan injured 33 elders who went in search of him and WeiYing and found them huddled in a cave somewhere.

We'd know by tomorrow night.

Those of us with more westernized sensibilities might have a negative visceral reaction to this pairing at first glance. This might abate after some time. Or not. #MeToo?

I know exactly how you feel. The past is heart-wrenching. We need to move to the present pronto get a reprieve and some sweetness. Based on the estimates by commentator(s) here, this might happen earliest by Ep 32 or worse. But Ep 40 is too much if true.

I am watching this as well as "Love and Destiny" as a counterweight. This is good, just that it is mostly sheathed in gloom.
I like the young 'uns. Lareina Song is a breath of fresh air and I am thanking the casting gods that everyone here seems to have acting chops and are not chosen (exclusively) for their good looks.

We already did: he grasped that the man with the mask is indeed WeiWuXian. In Ep2.

@Athena1 is talking about "the present" where LanZhan forcibly drags the new WeiYing and his donkey back to Gusu.

No worries. I left and came back because this is a nice counterweight to the heavy-going Eagle Flag.

Not the translation that's the problem. Latter episodes made this obvious.

Her "Dad" is actually her "Uncle".

LiDongXue, the thespian who plays JingXiu is a gem of an actor; will be looking out for his scenes.

The chemistry between NiNi and ChangChen is slow-burn and seems to have turned a corner since Ep15. Fingers crossed that it gets even better.

NiNi is the queen. Nuff said.

Visuals are awesome. At least the romance is the real deal. The bald baddie(?) made quite an impact.

I must say that XiaoZhan and Yibo are really good actors. It's just that I am quite dense and subtlety is not something that I want to handle at this point.

Might come back when they finally catch up with the opening scene in Ep 1. Or not.

In the meantime, have fun watching!

I read the novel. The dialogue is reproduced pretty much verbatim. I know exactly what's going to happen: as such, I am bailing. Am watching Love and Destiny currently. Ha.

Ep 26 is not it, unfortunately. Losing interest. Bailing.

No worries. The Chinese phrase dictionary is a treasure trove of information as well as confusion. Glad that I still know how to find the words.

It means "name of a tune/song". So, it is actually "Chen Qing's Song" if this is it.

I cracked open a "more than 1000-pager Chinese phrase dictionary" and after careful consideration of the mind-boggling interpretations, here's my take:

It's probably something anodyne along the lines of "The Era/Reign of Chen Qing (i.e. Yiling Patriarch's black flute)".

If anyone here has a different take, please share your thoughts.

And folks, it is never cool to disrespect a language that belongs to more than a billion folks on this earth. Just sayin'.
