Imagined hypothesis all in my head - pulled out of my ass even with no logic or sense... that is like exactly my sentiments rn. You act as if I'm the only one saying this - ever other comment on this page is about a 16 year old.
The company isn't promoting this show.
I'm pegging you as young. Someday, unfortunately - you will have an encounter with this underlying issue. I'm assuming you've been lucky enough that it won't be you that has the encounter but someday someone close to you will bring this issue home to you. Someday you will have children and if you don't, there will be children in your life that you love.
It is only a matter of time before your opinion is identical to mine.
Neither could Timmy Xu, tbf. Poppy actually seems more like Bai Luo Yin than Hero seems like Gu Hai.
Hmm... interesting. Why do I like Timmy so much? Why is Addicted one of my favorite things? Why did the government of China ban Timmy and Jimmy from appearing together on screen or stage?
Bc Timmy can't act - yep, makes total sense. Must have been all Jimmy I guess π€£π€£
To me, they would not have cast an under age actor if they had any intention of staying true to the story. They…
I'd really like to see a Thai version with War and Yin - I've thought about this. Either one of them could play either of the leads, they are both still young enough to look more like HS students than the average actor of a Western production set in a HS, and they both can act - their chemistry well established.
Were I the Director, with them being a little older and how many times the HS part of the story has been told - I'd kinda rush thru that, make a few alterations to the novel regarding the most controversial thing, and then I'd pick the show up at that 6 or 8 years later and tell the part that hasn't been told yet. Yin and War could finish out the story - finish it out well even.
As far as other remakes go - I don't need a Korean Addicted and if Taiwan were to make it, I'd want them to be true to the original but set it Taiwan and show, realistically the contrast in their own society between the very poor and powerful/rich - like Addicted did. This is what I would expect if there ever were an American Addicted for example.
If Japan adapted Addicted... they could just do the novel. I'm sure with the right Director and Cast they would do the novel incredibly well - there would be sooo many feels with that production. Lets just say, I'd rather have a Thai version with YinWar before that π
Hello, i read some of comment say about low cost production or something else. For me i donβt know who is yin…
Love Mechanics. Its not perfect, some people have legitimate issues with aspects of the show. There are so many tropes from OG BL, bit of dubious consent (this is debated) and it is even set in a University π
I have rewatched it 5 times. I don't really rewatch shows at all. Its all bc of Yin and War.
Truthfully, they are like my last ship. I really, really like them as individual people and will support them in any endeavor but I absolutely love them together. As YinWar, I want to see more of them in anything - I'll even watch their ads and seriously consider buying anything they promote to boost their numbers.
You should look into how this all came about too - this show is something they held out to do. They went independent and the Networks/Studios stopped casting them but not bc we didn't want to see them. The industry doesn't want BL actors getting all popular and then taking their ships independent. This is why they've made so little work despite being such a popular ship. They have a Youtube channel I recc checking out - they are π―
I'm glad they are getting the recognition and the opportunity they more than deserve. I wish them all the best in everything they do.
He is pretty young to understand those things I think on the other hand August is a seasoned actor... Mac is doing…
No, this is not fake morality - who tf is claiming that. Knowing that one of the main characters is a 16 year old and the other is 27 makes it uncomfortable for me to watch - even its just pretend, I don't want to pretend that. I cannot suspend disbelief with this pairing.
Max is not an Adult - Idc that Thailand says its ok for Adults to have sex with him, HE is not an adult.
When I said "Its going to be 18+ in BL here on out" - remember them, you will never see this type of thing again. Now, to clarify, I don't mean Love Sick with their under 16 actors - that is totally acceptable bc it isn't a sexual story. Under 18 actors should not be used to tell over 18 stories.
You will not see a 16 year old opposite an Adult - especially one 11 years his senior. Thats not bc I waved a magic wand - its bc people are sweating rn from how close the fire they've been playing with has got. They won't make this mistake again.
At some point in the future, I'll bet that YOU come back and delete ALL of your comments defending this show. I'm incredibly confident that you will someday get this ππ
He is pretty young to understand those things I think on the other hand August is a seasoned actor... Mac is doing…
In some respects this is funny to me - I don't kno if your just being naive or if you really believe the things you say - either way its naive, perhaps your young - I dont kno but I think you need to take a step back.
The British version of Queer As Folk the leads were all over 18 but one of them played a 15 year old (16 is the age of consent in the UK) it was very controversial to have them pretend to be underage.
This particular production may be innocent - I don't kno I'm not watching it. I'm giving everyone the benefit of doubt that is not actually intended to be a "wish fulfillment" show - but its very close to being that, it might even be that, so I can't just say nothing bc I don't want content made to fulfill the wishes of bad people. I don't want the actors exposed to the people that would finance such productions.
Like you do realize that if Max was cast in this show opposite a 27 year old intentionally - to fulfill the requirements of some financier than Max would be paraded around that financier, have to dinner with them and stuff. That is what I mean predator. This industry already has some issues with this exact type of thing - actors being taken advantage of. We don't need to throw children into the mix to tell our stories.
I'm sorry I've upset you so much. I'm not sure why your taking this so personally - I feel bad for the cast and the writer and the production team and everyone else that got screwed over by this terrible and wildly unnecessary casting choice.
I love that you think I'm a fundamentalist - if you ever meet one of the people I'm warning everyone about - you will understand exactly why I'm doing this π
He is pretty young to understand those things I think on the other hand August is a seasoned actor... Mac is doing…
@Froehlein I'm not judging you - I was talking about the industry. You do not do those things but others absolutely do, this is known. Do not take anything I've said personal. As I said to Lion also - I've never really been talking to you, tho I do think it very important that you take a step back from this and think about the just facts of it.
If you were pitched a show about a relationship between a 16 yr old and 27 yr old - you'd be sus on it. Sus is a good summation of a feeling that we have for a reason. In real life it would be quite difficult for 16 and 27 yr to have an equal standing in a relationship - bc the 11 years are some of the most developmental years. When that 16 yr old is 27 he will look very different than he does for example - he isn't done growing. Thats just literally the most obvious face value example. I could go on but I need to.
He is pretty young to understand those things I think on the other hand August is a seasoned actor... Mac is doing…
I did take a step back - came to my computer was closing tabs and realized I didn't address the biggest point - I was too busy clarifying my actual significance in the BL world and forgot.
I actually really don't care what you think regarding this topic. I've never actually been talking to you - I'm using you to clarify, very very clearly the severity of this particular casting decision as I do not want it replicated in the future - thats personal yes, but also bc I think its smarter not to, considering the crazy fundamentalists roaming the internet with their pitchforks and agenda to oppose exactly this.
I'm not saying that for your benefit.
I will clarify one more thing. You need to realize what sh*t like WILL bring in the future if allowed - there will always be some rich old perv willing to finance a production that gets his particular rocks off - always. Their money is not OK to take tho. Do you want to attract that particular kind of predator? That is the line this content toes. I don't think you should toe that particular line myself - but then you kno that already π
Thats about every way I can possibly say it all I think. Hopefully I got my point across π
He is pretty young to understand those things I think on the other hand August is a seasoned actor... Mac is doing…
I really think you need to take a step a back from this.
This is a remake of Addicted - I see people are now saying its a remake of Stay With Me - sure. That is not how it was advertised at all. The novel Addicted is very graphic and has consent issues. An expectation that any actors portraying the leads would be engaging in some sort of adult activity is kinda just assumed - understated, common f*ing sense even. So again - as I have said so many times - this was just stupid.
To the entitlement aspect - your literally cracked if you think international money isn't every bit as important as local money - in fact, if you think about it at all, you will realize that 1 of my country's dollars are worth 20 baht - there are of a lot currencies like that. I think you need to think about that. And, yeah as a gay man that watches international queer content - your going to have a hard time telling me "its not made for me" - gl with that π€£π€£
Lastly - if you actually supported any of this - the production, the actors, the writers, the company - maybe stop supporting them playing with fire at a gas station. Cause thats like pretty close to exactly what this in 2024.
He is pretty young to understand those things I think on the other hand August is a seasoned actor... Mac is doing…
Yeah... I don't think your being very rational at all actually - "real relationships" are not necessary in BL for people to believe that the ships on screen carry over into the actors real lives.
We literally mesh together their real names, refer to them as that, and then hope they get all the dramas and post lots of stuff social media - maybe get all cute at fan meets.
That is what BL is - part of it. A huge part of it tho. I recall early BL productions didn't even kno how to make money off their content outside of real life interaction with fans - they needed fans to ship the actors in real life. It was necessary to the way they made money.
How can a 27 year old and a 16 year old do any of this? How can you rationally say a BL ship is something that only exists on screen?
This isn't the type of issue I will ever see any other way - it doesn't matter whats OK elsewhere, its just not OK.
He is pretty young to understand those things I think on the other hand August is a seasoned actor... Mac is doing…
Bc you informed that he was 16. I thought he was 17 the whole time.
I don't care that this was made in Thailand - it was made for an international release, that was the intent the entire time. I would say at this point that the global audience for this particular Thai media is in greater number than the total Thai audience.
Perhaps the monetization of this content does not match the viewership as of yet but it is only a matter of time before the global BL audience transcends the value of the Thai market in its entirety.
This content was made for me as much as it was anyone in Thailand - that is simply the reality of this. Except this content, made for me to watch, is not legal in my country.
That is an issue for me - I don't want this replicated in the future, it was incredibly unnecessary and just plain stupid, so I am being quite vocal.
Tbh, I expect this is the last time this will be an issue bc this an industry, not a culture - its about money and this jeopardizes the very opportunity to make money from most people. Regardless of the culture of Thailand or the legality of the age consent - its gonna be 18+ in BL here on out.
He is pretty young to understand those things I think on the other hand August is a seasoned actor... Mac is doing…
I thought he was 17 this whole time. Obviously filming is done so it doesn't really matter how old he will be - whatever happens in the show will occur between a 16 year old and 27 year old.
Might be all right if this wasn't Addicted but it is - we kno its a sexual story, we just don't how much this adaptation is going to do.
Attended a shrine? Is that you mean by wrongdoings? Truthfully speaking, to completely cancel an actor bc he attended…
No I actually have looked into this, I've personally seen the photos - he doesn't enter the shrine. I just think this whole thing is ridiculous - he was obviously also being taken around by people from Japan. He is a famous actor in a foreign country, its not like he just got to do whatever he wanted, this was probably all planned out in advance. I doubt he even realized how close to the shrine he was or that it was even there.
The company isn't promoting this show.

Bc I think that would print money

Addicted is a sexual story - Stay With Me obviously not, just calling this Stay With Me - Thai version would have at least allowed me to watch it.
How can I possibly sign up to watch a show that quite literally SHOULD have sexual content in it when one of those actors can't do that?
This was obviously going to be very bromancey or incredibly f*cked up. Easy Drop for me.
Knowing that one of the main characters is a 16 year old and the other is 27 makes it uncomfortable for me to watch - even its just pretend, I don't want to pretend that. I cannot suspend disbelief with this pairing.
