I have a feeling that the red wedding robes they’re wearing in the credit clips are all ZiAng’s delirium and they both probably die next episode. ZiAng from his illness and ShuHe from suicide or HuaiYi’s orders. The only HEA these two get is in death. That’s my take.
Actually a bad ending would make complete sense for this series. Idk what they will do but I would understand…

I agree. He’s been stuck there for 5 years. The throne he sat on was paved with so much loss for him- his father, brother, and ZiAng. Plus the future he had hoped for himself. I do understand ZiAng though. What person would willingly allow the one they love to sacrifice themself in such a way? It was both an easy choice and an impossible one for ZiAng, killing the Crown Prince.
This love ZiAng has for ShuHe is toxic. Yet I can’t help but want a happy ending where they’re together. Though the poison damaging ZiAng’s body doesn’t seem like it will let them find happiness for long, even if they do manage to overcome this vast ocean of betrayal, blood, and pain.
ZiAng is obsessed with ShuHe and wants him to have that life of peace. He wants to be by his side while he has it, sheltering and shouldering everything for him. He’s blinded by this goal so much that he hasn’t really listened to what ShuHe has been saying for so long. He didn’t understand or accept ShuHe’s sense of familial duty and responsibility to his kingdom. Even now, ZiAng doesn’t really care about his own kingdom or people- All that he’s done was to return to ShuHe’s side (or have ShuHe return to his side at this point).
As far as those guards who punished him, I’m sure ZiAng made their heads roll. I don’t think he would tolerate them breathing after hurting his ShuHe.
I understand ZiAng’s caution, but his love for ShuHe will always override that because he wants to believe they can be together and that ShuHe will recognize ZiAng’s actions were made for him. He’s cautious right now, but he won’t be able to help himself on the next episode. His obsession and desire to have ShuHe won’t let him hold ShuHe at a distance to ensure he’s sincere for long. Love is blind.

He did. He realized how obsessed with power his brother had become. He had resigned himself to his fate which his brother had in mind for him- death. His brother admitted on the walkway that he’d killed their father and that he was next. Duan wouldn’t allow it. The last words Shuhe’s brother spoke to him were about Shuhe’s impending death by his own hands.
This drama deserves more obsessed viewers frfr. I love it so much! I wish there were more than 12 episodes. The mcs are gorgeous too 😍And the chemistry is 🔥

All I can say is that I knew it. HEA- only if you view the afterlife as a HEA. But it really was the only way this could have ended, to be honest.
