Okay some thoughts so far as of ep 2 and part of 3 underneath spoiler comment reply...
I hate feeling like I'm the only not enjoying this very much.. but I'm having a hard time getting invested. The first episode reads like a fanfic with all the slowmos, with a lot of telling vs showing (maybe constrained by drama length), and kind of... unnatural dialogue? Cant regurgitate exact lines, but it is very clear when the characters are saying things just for exposition, when irl, people tend to not talk like that. Anddd I am not loving either of their performances so far. Lee Seyoung's performance of the younger version 5 years ago.. comes off as unconvincing to me. She never really felt like she was in love, nor does her character feel very relatable or understandable so far. She feels flighty and .. young. No depth to her character or her personality change within the 5 years. Which might be all on purpose, but it's hard for me to tell
... and I'm just finding out that this was based off a book, and I definitely got the feeling that it was so when watching. Which I don't think is necessarily a good thing. They were very heavy handed with the narration-- and once again, telling vs. showing. I'll finish up ep 3 and see if I feel differently since I reallyyyy want to like this.
This comes off to me as a kind of.. turn off your brain, still enjoyable melodrama watch, which sucks because I was looking for that pensive, show-dont-tell melodrama feel that a lot of jdramas give off, paired with the kdrama storyline and cinematography. Could've been such a good synergy.
does anybody know where good subs for this drama are? I watched this way back on kisskh, and the subs there were also hard to have 100% enjoyment of the drama, and youtube was even worse... I know its been a long time, but is there a consensus on where the best subs are? :( even subscription, softsub, etc. I miss this drama and want to rewatch but dont think I would unless the subs were better :(
So curious as to who is the ML?? I hope it's Elvis, loved him in Fake it Till you Make It! And think he could have great vibes with the lead actress. I am not usually a fan of second chance stories (too much backstory / exposition, too easy to create a bond b/w characters, similar to childhood friends trope to me), but I'm trusting in Li Mo haha. Looking forward!
This is probably one of the most tender and gentle dramas I've ever watched, while at the same being unrelenting with its steady depiction of Miyabi's situation. All the characters, with Sanpei being the peak, act with such love and tender devotion that I haven't seen represented in so, so long. This drama does the "amnesia" trope the right way-- transforms it into its own, moves right into showing (not telling) us about Miyabi's reality, then gradually revealing us the whole truth, and showing us just how steadfast Sanpei has been the whole time. Even when it was based off that brief whirlwind of a time in South Africa.
I would absolutely love (and sell quite a few things lol) for a bonus episode of some fluff to exist, haha. : ' ) But I guess it wouldn't fit the drama's ambience / overall style. But I just want one episode of full-memory Miyabi (or not! maybe recovering Miyabi!) and Sanpei. I want to see them glow in full together one more time. : )
This is one of the most romantic dramas I've seen in a long time-- and a lot of amnesiac dramas do seem like they try to aim for that angle, but they typically don't offer the same thoughtful writing and pacing pauses for viewers to truly feel the love between characters. This one truly does. I never thought I'd find this as romantic as I do, but the love and tenderness between Sanpei and Miyabi surpasses all expectations, haha. (Thank you HPriest!!)
Interested in this one, considering Ryuya and Hana from Unmet are also the leads in this one!! I'd love to see them in more stuff-- even though I know this one isnt really, I'd love to see them in a more slow moving romantic melodrama. Excited to start this just for their chemistry though!

I cant get over the acting by Kotaro where he turns around with the bread for them to eat, and as he's saying it, you see his eyes and face first respond to her tears before he even finishes the sentence. And then he immediately softens and asks if she was crying.. and just his microexpression reactions to her are so wonderful and sweet. Ugh, I've never seen his acting before but it is just so good! And obvs Haruna is always killing it haha

Yeah, totally has the set up for the complexity even just with the character set ups-- it may be a purposeful sliiight misdirect. Get guards down with a light teaser, then get people thinking about and empathizing with the unconventional characters and their dynamic (ex-student / teacher) once theyre hooked, haha

I remember reading this manga a while ago-- I totally ran into this drama by chance, and wow, very pleasantly surprised!! Love the two main leads together. Definitely some abrupt/unrealistic progressions / production, but it's so so so charming and cute! Love that the main leads really.. just want to be together and support each other uwu
The FL actress, despite everything involved in a mamga adaptation, is adorable and endearing, and the ML.. really suits this haircut to say the least haha. Really pulls off his role so well. Reminds me of Kim Jaewook in a way.
