The misunderstandings in this drama, are a character of their own. They have a purpose here. They are supposed to…
Well, I just don't know if this drama is terrible, yet.
Technically, they could've arranged them to have a BIG blow-up, or the defining moment, earlier, as this drama isn't that long.
We've yet to see him go off to war, or what it is, that causes him to grow from a boy, into a man.

She's still cocky and doesn't consult him in anything, which isn't really that strange, it's an arranged marriage, that he said she could get out of, after 2 years.

The problem is here, he always REALLY liked her.
So they're not on the same page at all.

She might even love him by ep 12, but love isn't high priority in her life. She's under privileged and wants to rise, and better herself.

He assumes they're a team, because of marriage.
She doesn't put anything into this 'union', because she will divorce him after 2 years, she has no real intentions of being married in this life.
She doesn't want to WASTE her life on marriage.

She resents him, not because he's a bad evil man, but because he wants to waste her life, being stuck in a marriage, walking corridors of some mansion.
He would do that, just because he loves her, and she finds this disgusting.
How can anyone ruin someone's whole future, just because of feelings?

I'm mostly watching, because I'm surprised she can act.
I've only seen her in Eternal Love, the 'kissyface' drama, not 10 miles of peach blossoms.
Surprisingly she's handling some heavier topics well, and I like watching her.
I like Joseph anyway, but again, I'm surprised he's in a drama like this, I'm also surprised he knows how to kiss.
I thought he had a no kiss clause too, maybe he's just learned to kiss confidently or something?
IT's unusual, because it's a chaste kiss, a simple one, but it's one you'd expect in an actual relationship. I didn't hate it.

This is nowhere near TLB, but I cringe more at that Coroner drama, Miss Dragon, and whatever else Chinese, we've got right now.
I only recommend Doom At Your Service.

Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
People tend to give a lot of reasons for these things, but ultimately, this was shot in the middle of the worst…
It was animated, it's one of her ways of dealing with the Eagles.
Mujin reinforces A'sun, after burning the city's food supply.
Chang Ge deduces that they've rode all night, not had time to feed or water the horses.
She orders the barbed hay bales to be launched, the horses eat them and throw off their riders, thus throw off the Cavalry completely.

This is the animated battle part, imagine this being only referenced, as they couldn't possibly film it.
It's undue cruelty, but it's just like her, she will win at any cost, in battle.

Because of animation,it could be shown, not just referenced.
It's supposed to show her cruelty.
Attempt to drown the Bear Division, feeding the horses with barbed wire, ultimately wiping out Bear division later on.
It's all to show her cruelty, when necessary.

Just because she treats her people, a certain way, doesn't mean she's not an awful opponent.

I would never consider watching a romcom right after TLB, dude! Don't! xD
I can't even finish Word of Honor, which is a good ass drama, damn it.
I've put good drama's on hold, dropping most of what's airing now.
I fast forward Miss Dragon, because I just wanna see what happens to the Fate Immortal, because I like his face.

A few Korean dramas are OK right now, they are in fantasy horror genre, I feel that is watchable right now.
Ghosts, murder, death.

I dropped that Coroner one, the FL is annoying AF.
I'm not buying that she can read tea leaves, nevermind a corpse!

Youtube subbed final ep on nineteenth, so may be stragglers catching up, because it's weekend.

The misunderstandings in this drama, are a character of their own.
They have a purpose here.
They are supposed to highlight that these are things that only happen to people who had no business marrying in the first place.
They are wrong for each other.

This is a core plot point in this drama.
These two don't fit.
They clash/
They misunderstand.

Both of them need to go off and do what they need to do and grow up.
Because they can't make marriage work right now.
I believe that's another plot point.
As it is, as they are, they won't make anything work, yet.

This isn't typical string of misunderstandings drama, they're supposed to be wrong for each other, and neither is yet mature.

I feel it's difficult to remember, we're comparing apples to oranges here.Chang Ge is the epitome of privilege. At…
This is misunderstandings, because they're wrong for each other.
She's independent and does things independently, he jumps to conclusions, because he's a young man with no control over himself.
I believe he later goes to war, and that's where his growth happens.
She's allowed to keep studying, after marriage, and I believe that's where she changes.

They do misunderstand and misconstrued, because we're making a point here.

This is two people who never should have married.

She gets bullied, because she's not privileged.
She gets bullied further, because she's now a concubine, so a slave class, in this drama concubine is specified as slave class, on the same level of a maid.

It's only believable that Chang Ge doesn't get bullied, because she's raised as a Prince.
Because EVERYONE humours her, and allows her to learn anything and do as she wants.
Women were not raised like that historically, she's a snowflake, it's not that there's no two the same, it's just that they're extremely 'other' and uncommon.

Actually, they don't misunderstand, because A'sun is a battle hardened General and over 20 years old.
He chooses to read into her actions more, it's habit, from leading thousands into war and reading opponents.
Chang Ge misunderstands him plenty, but he's GOOD AT TALKING, explaining so even her thick head will understand.

If A'sun was any other guy, Shuyu for example, there would be a drama of misunderstandings.
Chang Ge is someone who misunderstands people a lot, especially before the temple arc.
But we allow her more room, because the drama is carefully crafted.

I feel it's difficult to remember, we're comparing apples to oranges here.Chang Ge is the epitome of privilege. At…
The first couple of episodes, she's not even had her 'coming of age' ceremony yet, so not yet an adult.
Probably 15 or so.
She's a country bumpkin, but she has a bright mind.
They end up married,
they're wrong for each other.

They bring out the worst fighting spirit, in each other.
Any other spouse, and either would be fine.
What they have is chemistry, but not much else.

There's no cross-dressing to go to college tropes.
The women are in an academy adjacent to the boys.
The women mostly only learn to the point, where they can hold an conversation with a future husband.

there's some dialogue in later eps that strike a chord, I'm not yet sure if this is good or not.

IT's implied, they will do their own thing, possibly for years.

Rom coms have become nightmare after this...
I feel it's difficult to remember, we're comparing apples to oranges here.

Chang Ge is the epitome of privilege.
At a time when girls were sold, bartered, killed and raped, she was raised as a Crown Prince would be raised.
She didn't have any adversity, any difficulties, in 15 years of life.
She was coddled, protected, expertly trained and taught, throughout her years in the palace.
She had so many skilled tutors, that her natural affinities got to shine.

Women and girls, at the time, most were not allowed to pick up a book, past childhood.
Most were married off as concubines, a slave role, where they were traded and sold, you could kill concubines easily, aside from casting them out.

Even Leyan wasn't as privileged, as she wasn't a princess before the coup.
Her education wasn't as intricate as Chang Ge's, she also wasn't privileged to any of the same freedoms.

You can't compare a girl like this, to a girl from the countryside, as an example, and expect her to FEARLESSLY protect her own person, as there was no nurturing involved here, to aide her in any way.

Strong Female Character comes in many different repackagings.

You have to calculate these from point of privileges, and some of these FL's start out minus 50, not even on 0, but minus.
They are at a deficit.

SFL is about spirit, and ofc script capabilities.

I'm watching a drama now, on ep 12 and it seems to be about Women's Lib. movement, in an ancient context.
Her husband tells her;
'If in the future, you should have a run-in with a man,who is not me, in this fashion, you may even end up dead.'

He's not warning her, but REMINDING HER, as a concubine, she can be easily lawfully killed. She is slave status.

You could be killed.

The man who organises her to be married, as a concubine, he drinks himself into a stupor that night.
He realises he has RUINED someones life.
She has a brilliant mind, she's just starting to tap into that, and he has ruined her.

The drama I'm watching, is about a young couple, who end up married,
but shouldn't have.
Probably ninety percent of all ancient marriages.
The drama promises that they separate, physically, but learn how to work on marriage, and first and foremost learn to work on themselves.

Was watching ep 14-16, realised they showed Yuan having interest in sword fighting as she liked her wooden sword…
Yes, and it also lays more gravitas to how they won't be having babies, yet.
They really do have TIME.

Mujin did become a parent however.
I feel he will be extremely responsible in this new stage of is life.
I think he throws himself into parenthood, never marries.

Love all the casts, love the main couple and second couple story. This drama would be perfect if there’s a real…
People tend to give a lot of reasons for these things, but ultimately, this was shot in the middle of the worst plague, of this century.
2020 end of March - July.

ALL drama productions were halted in Jan- Feb, completely.
Drama filming was resumed under very specific, strict covid rules.
You could only have SO MANY real people, within such and such space.

It works for some battle scene, but even during those, extras were spaced out.

Aside from all of this, they wanted to pay Manhua homage, they could have left it after her escape scene, in the beginning, but ultimately, since they wanted to have horses eat bales filled with barbed wire, they were never going to film that actually happening.
This showcases Chang Ge's cruelty on the battlefield, we get more such display later on, of course.
She is barbaric and has no mercy, on the battlefield.
She plays as dirty as the darkness in her mind takes her.

Unless it's going to be very hot, deep kissing, it's pointless and takes away from any drama.
If I wanted to see scenes of myself kissing my Grandma, then I'd watch my old childhood videos.
If it's not HOT, it's better nothing at all.

Thankfully A'suns eyes are enough to impregnate the nation.
IT's an awkward super power.

I actually WANT a boyfriend, after watching this drama, cause now I'm full of pent up stuff.

Do I actually want a boyfriend, after watching perfunctory cardboard kisses?

I'd actually consider getting married right now, because I believe in love again.
But finding someone who'd let me just LIVE, another matter.

How much of the show follows the manhua? I mean, how far into the show is actually from the book?
A'sun is smarter.
In the drama they also match in the intelligence department.
He's still the big and silent type.
There are no misunderstandings, because there's no gap in intelligence between the two.
He also finds out she's a girl, very quickly, because anything else wouldn't work.
Every big event is present, except for Sun going after his origins.
Also no naked Sun bathing, I still cry about this, the river was too unsafe.
We got other shirtless Sun scenes, for compensation.
They aren't clingy! I feel this is an important point, just like the Manhua, they don't sit attached with glue.
There's no 'I love you, my smoochiekins!'
They captured perfectly, the scene where A'sun has to leave, and asks her if she will come to him, if she can no longer stay in Tang - that 'feel',not the exact words, but that essences is inside each of their partings.
The urgency, it's there and it gets worse, because of course they're both of few words.

He is as wholesome, in respecting her choices.
Very few drama tropes.

WHAT IF THEY DO ONE WHERE THEIR FACES ARE REALLY CLOSE,
Then Reba just needs to STUMBLE a little....

The BTS of this thing, even if dressed as Teletubbies, it's SPICY SAUCE!!!

I just need one more, just one more incident, where Leo malfunctions
It is so SATISFYING.

I hate the 'crossdress just to get into college' trope, we avoid this here, women learn in the same Academy, although not together.

This isn't as bad as ANY of those crossdress drama's, they are ALL worse than this drama.
Take heart, this isn't spectacular, but it's not as bad as Chang'an Youth and all the other clones.

The leads seem to really like each other, you can tell they must get along off-screen too.

She's pleasant, because she's not too pretty, she also doesn't squeak when she speaks.
I enjoy Joseph in Dragon Killing Saber, the only man I've seen Yukee have any chemistry with.

Big G-ma from Minglan, is Gma in this.
I want her to be my Grandma.

This has shared locations, sets, some wardrobe textures, possibly even extras, with The Long Ballad, but other than that, no similarity.
Replying to Kayla_21 May 22, 2021
Whaaatt? do they imitate TLB??
Yes, this is completely different. It's better than pure junk like Miss Dragon, which is unwatchable. I skip most scene, just wanna see what happens to second couple.

It shares certain backdrops with TLB, bits of sets etc.
Chang Ge's mom's maid, she's in this as a Emperor's consort's maid.
The best Grandma of all time, Minglan's G, is a grandma in this.
Every time she's on screen, it's pure comfort.

This is something Joseph doesn't usually film, I enjoyed every episode of Heavenly Sword, Dragon Killing Saber- FIGHT ME!
the FL is from Eternal Love 1, 2 and 3? KISSFEST fame, which is a lonely housewife novel, in drama format.

I'm on ep six and sad the rest isn't subbed yet, as I have NOTHING, aside from TLB to watch.
Now I watch with eyes wide open, trying to spot other easter eggs.

The posture in the extras, is very similar.
Some of the textiles are too.

I can see where this drama is going, if it had the budget and team that TLB had, it would have been good, but they'd have for certain replaced the leads as well.

You can tell, right now, it's growing pains of youth, and
shit will happen which forces them to grow up.

What happened after E49, when CG and AS 'retired' to the grasslands? Many of you have been wondering. Someone…
You're right that CG and A'sun are supposed to be fictional.
This is cleverly navigated by Chang Ge having the Emperor erase them from history books.
That is why they're missing from our history books, and why everyone else is more or less based on real history.

Khan is prob based on
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illig_Qaghan

He declared himself Illig Khagan after the death of his older brother Chuluo and married his brother’s widow as well. He gave his nephew Ashina Shibobi the title of Tolis Qaghan afterwards and assigning him to his own former tribes. He continued his predecessors' pro-Sui politics, supporting puppet emperors.

I think they've tried to use two Khaganate prince's, Shibobi died too early, however.
