The introduction and portrayal of Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder was new to me and I think it striked a chord ! Lol it's going to be 4 AM and here I am đ
I wish the synopsis was better because in my head I was expecting this to be more romance centric... And more from Harry's perspective.
But nevertheless a good one time watch! đđ»
The romance wasnât the main focus, but I still enjoyed it. It added just the right amount of sweet angst without overshadowing the main theme.
That said penty of things could have been handled better, but I still likef it for the fresh plot ( or something I don't usually watch)
Great review! đŻâ„ïž
Someone who is starting with BLs might love it...
And as for the Fanatsy element, I have a personal inclination to tarot and I was excited to see how they use it here but it was barely used as a proper plot device but just as a prop. So that maybe a bit of a personal disappointment đ
I think when you are in mood for fluff and yk just to relax , this will be a good pick.
Also the length really makes it difficult to binge, so I won't even recommend. Atleast for me đ„Č
Thank you for the award Ma'am! â„ïž
But hereâs the thing if youâre gonna market a drama as âhistorical romance with a food plot,â you need to balance it out. Keep it silly and charming when it counts, then know when to pull back and let the historical side shine. This show⊠kinda missed that balance. One moment you are drooling over the food and smiling at the fluff, the next itâs all politics and drama with no real flow.
Itâs not that itâs a bad drama but it just started strong and then fizzled out. If it had been consistently âmid,â Iwould probably give it a 7. But the constant tonal whiplash dragged it down to a 6/10 for me đ„Č.
I do have a few dramas I am really looking forward to getting a 2nd season for⊠but of course no sign of them yet đ„Č
As for the team, I love a good team drama and âfound familyâ is one of my favorite tropes. Even though the team wasnât always in the spotlight, I liked how Ding Qi never felt like he had to do everything on his own and how his team always reciprocated that trust back.
I just wish the drama had been a few episodes shorter to give it a crisp finish. Still, it was an entertaining watch!
Thank you for reading my review and dropping a commen! â€ïž
Honestly, I was planning to rate this 8-8.5 till ep 8 and somehow they decided to abandon logic and cramm all the tropes in last 3 episodes which felt out of place.
I really wanted to rate this high but I just couldn't ignore the loop holes.
I hope you take my words with grain of salt if you liked it đ Just one of the many opinions ig đ
I need a petition to bring back the simpler Kdramas. No overcomplicated plot hiding and crammed in second half !!
Also the whole "this is a secret" plot was just đ€Ąđ€Ą
Great review Kate! â€ïž Exactly how I felt start to finish!
I rated it high because the last 2 eps were fun. Clingy and sorta loser Siyeol was so fun đ€đ„ł
And honestly, I totally agree with you. If they had just stuck with that original premise, I think I might have enjoyed it way more. The whole âreason to return to Borderlandâ never really carried the kind of stakes or urgency it needed, so it just didnât hit as hard.

The actual overlord only appears at the very last minute and most of the time we see Banda as the Joker ruling the borderland and compared to the previous overlords, I found him⊠weak, to put it lightly.
What made the games great for me in the earlier seasons wasnât the gore or brutality, but the emotional stakes that came with it. That tension, that connection to the charactersâ choices and struggles.
I still remember deaths in season 1 of Arisu's friends not because the game was brutal but because of the emotional cost it came at and the impact it had on the main character. I just didnât feel it fully in Season 3.
And yes, sick or unstable people are easy to manipulate, but the way the show handled trauma this season didnât really justify those actions. It just felt convenient not logical.
Like Ryuji entering the borderland made sense to me , but Usagi... No.
Anyways... you had a different experience with the drama and I am genuinely glad you enjoyed it more than I did. :))
But for me, it was a bit of a letdown. I guess it just comes down to perspective and different expectations each have... everyone watches through a different lens.
Have a good day/night! :))
As for Usagiâs character⊠I get that she had trauma, but I donât think this was the best way to handle it. Her realization and journey never really showed her processing anything, except for that one hug with her dad. Using her grief without actually showing her work through it was the problem for me.
Coming to the games, yes, they were good like I mentioned in my review and I liked them. But with the way the characters were handled, I didnât feel much connection. In the game where they were trying to escape the rooms, we got these quick emotional glimpses into each characterâs background, but somehow it felt too late.
Again, maybe itâs just me but thatâs how I felt. :))
I donât think the problem was that season 3 existed..itâs more about how it was executed.
The issue for me wasnât so much the absence of the overlords from season 2, but rather how the main characters themselves were written. Usagi, for example, felt very different compared to her earlier seasons. Few of her decisions often came across as ambiguous and I donât think the drama gave us enough justification for them. Even her return to Borderland didnât feel fully convincing in its reasoning.
Then thereâs the lore of borderland at the end, which I personally found underwhelming. On top of that, Joker as the final overlord came off weak.
I am not necessarily upset about season 2 characters not returning, but I do feel the season didnât do justice to the new characters it did focus on. The emotional connection came too late or not at all. And with any sequel, there is an expectation for it to either match or surpass what came before. Here, it felt like it fell short.
If I were to look at this season on its own, completely separate from the previous ones, I probably would have rated it about 0.5 higher. But as the continuation of a story I already loved, the disappointment definitely affected my score by 0.5. đ
Just to note: I havenât read the source material, so this review is purely based on the series itself. :))
Pheemâs half-brother: âHow did you come here?â
Pheem: âI flew here, obviously.â
LMFAOOOOO đ
And of course he has got a tragic past. Not even surprised at this point⊠can we ever have a BL without one? The answer is NOOOOđ
Thun and Pheem finally meetingđ„đ„
The clash, the tension!! Whoever wrote those dialogues...lol good job... I was cracking up.
Also itâs been a while since I have seen Daou on screen and I didnât realize how much I missed him until now. â€ïž
Jet, on the other hand is such a brat. The step-sibling rivalry trope is nothing new, but I am curious to see where it goes. Please just donât make him annoying all the way through! I want a solid antagonist, not a tantrum thrower.
Thun is righteous while Pheem is cold, morally shady and a bit unpredictable. I actually love this dynamic. Itâs the perfect opposite trope. Add in the rich ML Ă not-rich ML setup and ohhh I am love their banter đđ»âš
Timestamp 40:10⊠someone please tell me where the blood went from Pheemâs face. đ€Ł Editors, come on!
And then when it finally shows up again, itâs magically on the other side. I canât.đ€Ł
The fight scene though was pretty good! I liked the mix of action and bits of comedy.
And the bike ride in the rainđ„
And umm, excuse me, he already invited Thun to his house? đ The way they are already touchy and way too comfortable is sending me. đ
Missed opportunity on the shower scene though⊠đ instead we got the âslip on each otherâ almost kiss. And no, they didnât kiss. Tragic. đđ
Overall, I really enjoyed the first episode. Itâs dramatic, full of clichĂ©s and sprinkled with little comedy that 1 editing blunder, but I like it.
The setup works, and the chemistry between the leads is strong. I am excited for what comes next! Solid Pilot!
SATTT for Episode 2. đ„
