Every now and then I think about how subversive this drama was (romantically) for its time (kinda still is). A very well-written insight into how characters don't have to end up with each other just because they are the star billed ML and FL.

That instead we can have complex relationships, an incredibly passionate enemies to "let's use each other for our personal benefits" to "no one else in the whole world understands me like you do" to lovers. Such a masterclass in writing and truly ahead of its time the romance here was.

this is interesting because it's so reflective of how badly damaged her psyche is thanks to her parents. I think…

I agree! This is such a complex drama, that every time I done rewatching, I always gain new information or new…
you're so right. it's tricky to utilize the 16 episodes correctly but I would still hold hope because there are so many little things they could spend time on, that the 16 episodes wouldn't feel like a lot because i literally cannot get enough of this drama 😭

I am I the only one who's more interested in the younger actors than the mains actors
nope, most people who discovered the show through tiktok or reels/shorts also share the same sentiments as you.

Title The Atypical Family Spoiler
Talking about when Ina read Dahae's mind:1st marriage: to get back at her mom who left her to be with her lover.2nd…
this is interesting because it's so reflective of how badly damaged her psyche is thanks to her parents. I think her not-mom probably didn't have much of a say in her choosing the targets as long as they were rich. Which is why we got the abusive alcoholic first husband, and the lecherous, cheating second husband. I think only Gwi Joo was the one specifically selected by not-mom. Which also leads me to think that in a different scenario, Da Hae would probably have never approached him for a con, just because her targets before him reflected the people who had wronged her. I wanna hug her so bad.

I appreciate that as the episodes go by, we see a better selection of outfits for Dong Hee beyond those horrible multiple layers of ill-fitting, unironed shirts, but that's also accompanied by a caveat because now that she's actively losing weight, obviously she's going to get better fits. Either way, I'm glad she's regaining her confidence and doing better and hope that she continues being her entertaining self. Stylists for plus size characters, do better!

The entire cast is amazing, especially the main actors, and the story itself is very captivating. but it seems…
well said! the mental gymnastics people do to argue here in the comments is beyond me, because maybe if they used some of that to actually watch the show they wouldn't feel the need to go through all the trouble. But oh well, such is the plight of the interwebs being so densely populated and people's attention spans being at an all time low.

So I am on ep 6 and can't help but wonder: why is it that when watching the "mother" and the "uncle" I am getting…
THANK YOU FOR POINTING THIS OUT!
I fully agree with you, all of these people are flawed human beings with a lifetime of stories and yes, their decisions and intentions rn are not noble, but you know deep down there's so much more to them.

I haven't seen anyone else talk about this but even though she's doing this for ulterior motives, everything Da Hae's mom says about her being basically a free maid and not an accepted wife and quite literally being mistreated at times is so so so valid and the lived reality of a lot of women around the globe.

(Talking based only on 3 episodes I seen) The main plot on her side is so URGH! Specially when a kid is involved.…
I don't think anyone here is condoning or glorifying her actions. everyone is just waiting to see how the story unfolds. we acknowledge that she's a bad person and we acknowledge that the ML is also a shitty parent. The reason why you probably see people trying to "defend" her is because there are soooo many dramas with horrible main characters, most of which are men, and no one ever bats an eye about them. Why is a bad woman having everyone clutch their pearls? Also, what does this say about the people she's deceiving that their lives have gotten so much better since she entered the picture, regardless of her reasons.

I don't like the character of ML at all, neglected his wife when she was around, even after she died he didn't…
I see your point but I don't think he changed because he thought she would leave. he changed because he felt hope that he could be happy again. something that he'd lost when he lost his hyung and that sent him in a depressive and neglectful spiral. it's definitely not excusable, and even now you can argue that what he feels for the FL isn't love but a need that will help him fix himself but that's what makes these characters so much more layered and human, they're full of flaws just like us and seeing them grow and learn from their mistakes is our way of getting closure as a drama watcher.
