so, I'm writing this as someone who studied filmmaking, but every single frame of a medium is supposed to have intention behind it. whether it is through the framing of the camera, multiple angles, music, filters and most importantly, the performance of the subjects. If the viewer is objective they will feel exactly how the director intended for them to feel.

if you watch the scene again, there's very few beats, and everything is very static and detached. heck, just as the kiss gets deeper, they plaster the big yellow show credits all over it, cutting it abruptly short. this is to imply as obviously as possible, that this kiss was not romantic in nature.

you said it so well, and I was just thinking about this too. kdramas have this thing where you can only ever have one perfect love. if your love failed in the past due to whatever circumstances, it was also characteristic of the failures of the previous partner's personality.

it is obvious that they're afraid of anyone outshining the designated lead love interest role but imho it would be so much more interesting if that weren't the case. like we already made progress with I Na being Gwi Joo's fully biological daughter and not an adopted one, niece etc. now why not take it a step further and not throw dirt on his dead wife too? surely, that's not too much to ask lmao.

I think that probably has to do with MDL's user base. If we look at the kind of dramas that are the most popular here + the general age range, it is very apparent how young most of the user base is, or at the very least, incredibly traditional when it comes to drama consumption tastes. not saying correlation implies causation, but that's just my crude observation after 6 years on the site. Whatever is an anomaly, or atypical (lmao) doesn't really sit well with MDL audiences usually.

I may be jumping to conclusions here so I'll say this is only my own opinion but from what I've seen, the Venn diagram of commenters hating on the FL initially and those now saying that there's no chemistry between the couple is almost a circle lmao.
