Just as bad?!?! Whoever was hurt by her had it coming...you can argue you can't serve justice on your own, but…
I feel like I'm watching a completely different drama to you. However, I do enjoy reading thoughts of commentators that are the complete opposite of mine. #Snigger

"She did everything in her power to provoke her husband by making him jealous to the point he snapped."

I think it is clear to see her husband had mental health issues? I think the writer has been quite clear in her depiction of this. Especially in the case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, while also being a narcissist and sociopath. He made it very clear to Nan Ya that he was obsessed by her from the first moment they met.

"Usually a beating doesn't just fall out the sky"

I'm trying to read your mind as to what you're thinking by saying this! Do you believe she deserved a beating? Is this normal in your culture? To me, a beating should NEVER, EVER happen, be it man on woman or woman on man. I think if another human thinks, irrespective of the situation, that another human is deserved of a beating and then going further, to the point of being continually hospitalised while calling it love, then they should really re-evaluate their humanity and empathy.

"Make him hit her until she gets the opportunity to kill him"

From what I've seen, they were married for several years. I'm pretty sure the opportunity would have presented itself prior to his actual demise. #Snigger

However, I do agree with you on one thing. I do think wherever possibly, being as intelligent as she is, she would have used him to her advantage wherever possible. Clever, clever woman.

Looking forward to the next episode.

Hopefully, you'll have seen my response to your comment on my post below. I'm honestly intrigued as to why you, in your own words say, "she is as bad as the others."

So, talking up to the age of 17, do you think she deserved to be raped by her step-brother? Later on, do you think she deserved to be raped, yet again, by her step-brother? Do you think it was right for her step-brother to blackmail her continually for money, when he witnessed the conversation between her and Xu Yi outside her dorm, knowing she had never flirted, seduced or reciprocated feelings for Xu Yi. (Remember, he was listening to their conversation in the next doorway). Do you think she deserved to be beaten, Game of Thrones stylie by the townspeople, her upper clothes torn off, when her husband set up the fake affair with his brother? Do you think she deserved to be continually sexualised by the men in her town, simply because she was stunningly beautiful, individual and had an excellent sense of style?

We will indeed see how it plays out. Interesting viewing don't you think:-)

What an interesting thought process you have in your final comment. May I ask why you don't feel she deserves retribution?

Let me start by saying why I think she does:

1) She lost her mother at a very young age, someone whom she loved dearly.

2) Her father was a cowardly alcoholic, who brought into her home a nasty, cold, abusive step-mother. He was never portrayed as a loving man who had her back.

3) At the age of just 17, her step-brother brutally raped her.

4) At the time of the rape, her step-mother refused to let either her, or cowardly, alcoholic father report it to the police. The step-mother chose instead to comfort her son and lock Nan Ya in a room with a fever for what appeared to be weeks.

5) Not only did Nan Ya lose her virginity that night, but also the boy, Lin Fang Lu, whom she was hoping to be her boyfriend.

6) On the father's death, the step-mother beat Nan Ya in the street, in front of the townsfolk, saying she'd left him out in the cold to die on purpose, without actually witnessing this, or having any factual evidence to back up her accusation.

7) Nan Ya, is forced to leave the home she lived in with her much-loved mother to live with her best friend's family, due to her step-mothers continual abuse.

8) Nan Ya, a grade A student, well on her chosen dream path to enter the best university, is then told by her step-mother that she'll no longer continue to pay for her tuition, forcing her to enter a factory and therefore fend and pay for herself - again, at just 17.

9) As if raping her wasn't enough, step-brother then decides to continually blackmail her for money, knowing she has never flirted, seduced or reciprocated feelings for Xu Yi. (Remember, he was listening to their conversation in the next doorway).

10) On marrying Xu Yi, he continually horrifically beat and abused her throughout their relationship, going as far as to kick her in the stomach while pregnant.

11) Xu Yi, also raped her, outside their home and Zhou Luo was witness to this. I've no doubt there were more times, however, I'm sticking to the facts.

12) Xu Yi deliberately told the townsfolk she was a whore, simply to tarnish her reputation and ensure he could keep her by his side. He didn't deny this. The writer has on numerous occasions insinuated that he suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and was was a classic narcissistic with sociopath behaviours. He said himself, he was obsessed with her from the first time he set eyes on her.

13) Nan Ya was, on pretty much a daily basis, abused, reprimanded, looked-down and scorned upon, by literally everyone in her home- town.

14) On a daily basis, she was sexualised by pretty much all the men in her home-town. She was looked upon as a piece of 'ripe, arse meat.' They saw her as sexy and salivated over having her. And, simply because of her stunning beauty, physical characteristics and individual sense of dress style.

15) Xu Yi arranged for his brother to fake having an affair with Nan Ya. She was shamefully beaten by the townsfolk and literally stripped of her upper clothing Game of Thrones stylie, simply to stop her leaving him. Again, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and classic narcissistic, sociopath behaviours.

16) When asked on numerous occasions for a divorce, Xu Yi, chose instead, to leverage losing her daughter against her.

So, as much as I try to understand and respect the views of commentators on this here forum which don't align with mine, I simply can't wrap my head around why you would think she doesn't deserve retribution. To me, it beggars belief.

Fucking hell!! What am I watching? This is beyond dark, pitiful, distressing, harrowing, miserable and oh so very, very sad. My heart is actually racing.

What makes this seriously depressing viewing, is that so many of the characters lack any semblance of morality. They are literally the epitome of the word evil. Just completed EP 12 and it makes for very difficult viewing and we still have 16 episodes to go, so I think it is fair to say, we have much more of the same to endure.

Respect to the writer(s) for doing such an excellent job in the narration and storytelling. Respect to the cast for completely owning and delivering their characters. Respect to the Director for doing just that, directing.

To be honest, my strength is only keeping me here as a viewer, to see Nan Ya get her just retribution.

hmmm...a rare point of disagreement, JJ. I find the plot boring and predictable, the actors lame and untalented,…
Ooh! This must be the first time we’ve disagreed on a drama.

I admit, I’m not sold at this stage, but invested enough to see where it goes.

I find myself wanting to ask you why they should abandon their innate, cultural way of storytelling. After all,…
Thanks so much for you response. I hear you and thank you for enlightening me on current Japanese culture.

Personally, what I adore about Japanese dramas, be it gay or heterosexual, is the beautiful way they, like no other culture, tell a story. No country thinks or tells a story like the Japanese. That's what my post wanted to get across.

I find myself quite intrigued by this drama. Don't get me wrong, I abhor the whole rabbit caught in the headlights narrative surrounding Shirasaki as a lead. It bores me when it comes to a grown arse adult male acting in this way.

I absolutely loved one commentator saying, "you're an actor, why would you need to go to a gay bar to have sex to deliver your role? You're an actor. Act. Would you, if your role was a serial killer, go out and kill people?" Hilarious and so spot on.

However, I find myself intrigued where this is going. Hayama, obviously, already likes Shirasaki. I like his sassy confidence in his skin. He owns it. He feels wise. Knowing. My brain says this will be a drama where he empowers and gives Shirasaki confidence to own who he is.

I like the narrative around opposites attract, So, let's see how this one roles.

When will Japan abandon their cliché storytelling, who even acts like that 😶 I was so hyped by the first episode…
I find myself wanting to ask you why they should abandon their innate, cultural way of storytelling. After all, isn't that what makes them unique? No one writes like the Japanese. Shouldn't we be embracing their dedication and love for their cultural differences?

I find myself surprised how much I enjoyed this drama. I went into it expecting the limitations of a Thai drama that I'm able to tolerate and came out feeling engaged, surprised and delighted.

The men could act and were stunning. Special kudos to them for learning how to rope dance, that shit isn't easy - so again, huge respect.

I loved the character development of Khemthis, we really did see him mature and become a selfless, thoughtful human to both Wela and his mother. The chemistry between him and Wela I liked and found believable and their sex scenes were horny, apart from the final blow job, which Wela would have needed a 14 inch cock to receive and feel!

Huge respect to the writer for going down the throuple route. That in itself is refreshing and innovative writing from a Thai BL.

Would I re-watch. Possibly. Maybe. I'm unsure. However, it's an 8/10 for me.

Well, that was a first for a BL, two tops choosing not to have sex because they're both tops. The fighting over the condom was hilarious. Very refreshing to see something new from Thailand. Honestly though, in real life, considering how damn horny they were to have sex, in real life, they would have simply wanked or sucked each other off. But, hey ho.

However, the way they chose to cut the sex scenes, as in not showing absolutely anything, I found jarring to the script and above conversation. It simply didn't flow. I felt they needed to show more to enable the narrative to flow better.

Excellent first episode though. I found myself thoroughly engaged. I have my fingers and toes crossed that it continues.

And, so it concludes. This was a beautifully written and narrated drama. Extremely thought-provoking, engaging and full of utter sadness and despair.

No, it wasn't the ending I wanted. However, I have huge respect for the writer in having the balls to continue with this very dark, sad narrative, choosing not to go down the annoyingly fluffy, "love will conquer all" bollocks.

Lee Yoon Dae has always desperately wanted to be by Cha Soo Hyuk's side. He accepts this and will do anything to make it happen, after all, what ultimately both men really want, is someone to have a meal with and come home to. They want and need a simple, uncomplicated life.

However, Cha Soo Hyuk is so utterly broken, that the thought of being with, loving and looking after Lee Yoon Dae is just too overwhelming for his brain to comprehend. So, the writer did very well in depicting the realism of their situation. As I like to say, "softly, softly catch the monkey." It is going to need a shitload of patience, gentle gestures, space and time, mostly on Lee Yoon Dae's side, for these two to finally come together as lovers, which was beautifully shown with that ending phone call.

Would I re-watch it. No. However, I'd be very happy to watch a S2 to see the continuance of their journey. It's an 8/10 for me.

This drama was a breath of fresh air. Lovely storytelling and narration, together with excellent acting from our two leads.

The only part which didn't, even in the slightest hit home for me, was the sister's relationship. They had very little interaction and zero chemistry to make me believe they were in a loving relationship.

It's a 9/10 for me and I'll definitely re-watch.

Indeed you are. However, you have such excellent incites, that I just think you need to massively hone it in. Think about the subject and the key points you want to tell, without your audience feeling like they're being dictated to.

Ariel, Ariel. And here I rest my above case. You so need to reign your thought process in. What you've sent me, is again, a splurge of absolutely nothing which relates to this drama.

Ps: Please think about those paragraph returns. #JustSayin'

The mere fact that Wela has been hiding from her mother and everyone else, such as university classmates, teachers,…
I actually find myself quite aghast that you continue to push this whole prostitution narrative, when it is obviously not there. I think you really need to note the meaning of prostitution, which is, "The activity of engaging in relatively indiscriminate sexual activity in general with someone who is not a spouse or a friend, in exchange for immediate payment in money or other valuables."

What part of this drama involves prostitution? None of the men have had sex with their customers. None of the men have been paid for sex? Do you even know what a host club is? A host club is a type of nightclub which caters to men and women seeking drinks and attentive conversation, which at times involves flirting. This is what this drama is depicting. I find myself astounded that you don't get this.

I've seen so many of your posts across various dramas and I do think you're intelligent and obviously a very, very, deep thinker with a lot of knowledge. However, your posts always feel like someone standing on a bloody soup box, pointing your finger and literally dictating what us as viewers should think. You literally, always, over think everything, to the point where your original, good, rational thought process is lost.

Less is more Ariel. Less is more. You need to learn this. Try to be succinct in your narrative, focusing on the key facts of your argument / feedback, that way you have us engaged, because, as I said, you are obviously intelligent, with an excellent thought process. However, quite honestly, for me, anyway, your posts sound like someone dictating to me, which I know is not what you want.

In conclusion, with the length of your posts, your REALLY, REALLY need to start adopting paragraph returns. Much of your long narratives are lost on me as a reader, simply because you choose not to click the enter key twice to create a new paragraph. Very easy to do, don't you think?!

Anyway, I felt I needed to tell you this. Hope you take it in the positive spirit I mean it to be.

EP 2 and our clueless Natsukawa has finally, finally got the hint and caught on.

However, What the flying fuck was that preview for EP 3?! Is this moving into a series about a man,
Tanaka, who has a phobia about touching people? Please not. Please, please, not. What a travesty that would be. Unless Natsukawa is the cure! Now that I can deal with and would happily watch his transition.
