Title Gray Shelter
I adore the rawness of this drama. I especially like how our leads portray their individual sufferings, yet both, deep down, totally understand how the other feels.

Damn, what have those parents done to their boys to continue to seriously fuck with their heads?! There are so many unanswered questions in the narrative involving the parents. Personally, I think they should have disclosed it all by episode 4. How did Cha Soo Hyuk's father monumentally fuck up? What did Cha Soo Hyuk do that was so bad to his father? Lee Yoon Dae's father has continually abused his son, so why is he so desperate for him to return home? Questions. Questions.

I would have liked the final episode for its 20 minute duration, to focus exclusively on the journey of our leads healing one another. It would be lovely to see them smile and laugh together and show their determination to give a royal 'fuck you' to their parents as they agree to abandon them forever and therefore start to really live their lives.

But hey, still a beautifully written drama for its short duration.

PS: It looks like I wasn't the only one who Googled 'Extreme Air Fit' to find out it was 'extremely thin condoms'! #Hilarious

You've nailed it. They had heart. With Love Sick, I adored the fact our main lead wasn't the stereotypical beautiful boy. I adored how the writer depicted him. Quite fearless, cheeky and sassy for one so young and I found myself captivated by him, which then, took me on my BL journey.

With this series, I found myself using the word 'vacuous' for the first time with a BL. Yes, of course there are much, much worse in the genre. But, for some reason, vacuous just sprang to mind when watching the first episode. I admit, I've long grown bored of the vacuous nature of some Thai BL's, and am happy to call them out for their pitiful shortcomings. A travesty to be true.

I get it, we're definitely not the target audience for this drama. However, my brain shouts "what a fucking travesty." This network has serious money to play with and deep, deep pockets in this here BL land. So, why oh why can't they be creative and innovate? Questions. Questions.

I'm left feeling, not with all though, that some writers and directors in Thai BL land don't give a flying fuck. It's all about the money and fan-service.

I quite enjoyed the first episode. I like its sense of dark sadness. I'm interested to find out more about the boys back-story, as their upbringings seemed depressing and relentless for ones so young.

Lee Yoon Dae appears to be suffering from depression and has no desire or appetite for life. While Cha Soo Hyuk, appears to simply exist on a day-to-day basis. I'm waiting for when he'll inevitably implode as all those buried emotions finally make there way to the surface.

I'm curious to see how the writer will depict their journey to healing one another.

Charming first episode. I feel that Tanaka has been in love with Natsukawa since they were childhood friends and the thought of actually getting to live with him, is going to push his lustful gay libido over the edge. I'm definitely here to witness this.

Natsukawa had me chuckling at times. The man has no filter, says exactly what's on his mind, while appearing to overthink everything.

Looking forward to seeing how their relationship develops.

...and so it concludes. Overall, it was really refreshing to watch a mature Japanese BL. I enjoyed the quirkiness and directness of the dialogue between our two leads and the sassy bitchiness of
Shiraishi Yuto in the earlier episodes. Contrary to what some other commentators felt, I really enjoyed the depiction of Iwanaga. Yes, he was a serious prick tease and player, but I never felt he deliberately or intentionally acted this way with Miyata, quite the opposite. I saw him as always madly in love and just fiercely protective of that love.

However, I felt the drama lost its edge in the latter episodes with the introduction of Sugimoto and the writing around Iwanaga's family heritage and mother. I felt this part would have been better spent focusing on Iwanaga's inner thoughts, fears and character development, together with his developing relationship with Miyata.

Overall, a good, satisfying, mature watch. It's a 7/10 for me and yes, I'll definitely re-watch.

Gosh! This was excellent. Extremely thought-provoking, the theme being: "One is made, not born, a woman."

I liked how the writer documented her journey to find herself and her fight to not conform to societies typical stereotypes of the behaviours of a woman, or indeed as a married woman. I liked how she unashamedly owned her carnivorous, sexual desires.

I did find her journey extremely fascinating. However, at times, I felt she was selfish and needy. The older lover was right, she did need to find independence, develop her self-worth and esteem and learn to stand on her own two feet. It surprised me at times how unwilling she was to do so without a man. Yet, in the end, it was gratifying to see her willing to do just this.

An excellent watch. It's a 9/10 for me.

What a find. What an absolute find. I can't believe how I've never stumbled across this gem of a film. Like I've said many times before, no one and I mean no one, makes films or indeed dramas like the Japanese. They're just on a whole different level when it comes to creativity, innovation, storytelling and narration when writing.

It's quirky, funny, beyond sexy and so utterly captivating. Whomever cast our three leads together should win an award. I especially loved the character and positive energy and spirit our FL brought to her character and the story, together with the way she interacted with our ML's.

Don't be put off by the rating. It really is a must watch. I rarely find a film or drama I give a 10/10 these days and this one is well-deserving. I'll definitely be re-watching and multiple times.

We're very much aligned on this one. Incidentally, I also started my Thai BL journey with Love Sick and all the above you mention. It felt like fan-service which I utterly despise for its fakeness, delivered oh so badly.

I said pretty much the same as you: "I'm just going to hold my hands up and say I'm definitely not the target audience for this drama and in fact, most of the BL dramas that continue to be churned out from the Thai production line.

"Some, not all, but definitely this one, left me utterly and completely mesmerised at how lacking it is in substance - literally bereft of any kind of depth or most importantly, imagination in the writing or direction. It's just endless streams of bad, vacuous, childish, slapstick writing and dialogue, delivered by what amounts to at best, mediocre to bad acting.

"I honestly couldn't sit through a 2nd episode of this drama, let alone 16, perhaps if it dropped 7-8 years ago, but not today. Dropped."

I really dislike dramas where the bad guys for the majority of a series continue again and again to have the upper hand. It just becomes tedious and unbelievable. The final five episodes of this drama became beyond tedious for me, so it's a 5/10 and no, I won't be re-watching.

This. This comment. You own and are the 'winner' of this whole series chat with this comment. I mentioned it below, but you had me literally spitting out my tea, howling with laughter. When I first saw it, I was like, what the flying fuck have they put her in? I was mesmerised by the ugly fabric, balloon arms and then I noticed the skirt had the same hideous fabric. The whole thing didn't even fit her body.

"The sister is a typical Japanese female mouse wearing somebody's stolen drapes sewn onto the arms of a pair of long underwear.

"That hideous outfit is going to give me nightmares for weeks to come. The ugliest clothes I've seen on women are in Japanese BLs. Big, bulky, blousy, shapeless, circus-tent stuff that eliminates any hint of a woman's body beneath all the fabric."

Hey Annie

Honestly, don't be angry. After all, we are simply speaking about a drama. I have my views and you have yours, which even if I don't agree with yours, we can agree to disagree, without being rude to one another. Enjoy the drama.

Greetings Annie

I can indeed confirm that I am definitely a human with a rational, factual thought process on how I view in the majority, Thai BL's.

What I am not and what you appear to be from your response, is a fan fixated, obsessed, naive human, who simply can't see these men for what they are, which is, as I think I clearly pointed out in my post, actors playing a character, in a designated role, which, if you stepped into the real world, you'd realise isn't real. #JustSaying.

You're spot on. GMM are beyond whores to their fan base. However, to me, at the detriment of them ever evolving or being taken seriously in the world of BL. I hear you... and all I ask for is a decent script, with thoughtful direction and actors who can actually act and simply don't have a pretty face. I don't think that's too much to ask! #Snigger. This serious is everything I abhor about Thai BL's.

Thank you so much for your very kind words. Means a lot to me that you took the time to read it and write back. πŸ™πŸ½It massively pisses me off that networks like GMM 25 have such huge budgets but actually don't give a flying shit about their content output or indeed the careers of their actors.

From the outset, I've really liked Iwanaga's, deep, complex, direct, playful, playboy personality and this episode really highlighted to me how this boy, evolving into a man, has endured some serious shit at the hands of his family.

Imagine. Just imagine, your birth mother putting you up for bloody adoption because she found out you were planning to run away from home with a boy? Honestly, what fucking mindset do you have to have, to think like that as a birth mother? At the very least, lock him up in his bedroom and get the local priest around for a series of discounted exorcism sessions, lol, but adoption, beggars belief!

Iwanaga, in this episode alone, tells Miyata he loves him twice. Says he wants to live with him, yet never tells him anything vaguely important about his past or present life, let alone his inner, deeper feelings and thoughts, hence why Miyata and rightly so, is always left feeling conflicted by Iwanaga's feelings and like an outsider. The man literally puts in zero real effort, simply spouts words he thinks he wants to hear.

The whole restaurant scene was laughable. Iwanaga is a man of grand gestures with very little substance. Miyata knows and feels this. When Iwanaga said: "I'm the type who feeds bait to caught fish," I thought he surmised himself well and it was shown in that appalling, hugely stereotypical bunch of thoughtless red roses, which Miyata would, as we know him, absolutely hate.

I think Iwanaga has gone through some seriously, dark shit with his mother and the adoption. He doesn't want to revisit it and he doesn't want to bring Miyata into it. He's protecting him and himself, because he sees him as his ultimate future and lifelong love. In this episode, I think he's preparing himself for the inevitable battle with his family for his love.

Sugimoto's character I found quite an interesting addition. Loved the writing of him. Quite like Iwanaga in earlier episodes, direct and in your face. However, more alpha / dominant. I think he's always loved Iwanaga, however, never actually caught his prey and hates that he knows Iwanaga has always been madly in love with Miyata, yet sees him hugely subservient to him and Iwanaga.

I think the final episode will be really interesting.

PS: What the flying fuck was Reina wearing? Nothing in that outfit made sense wardrobe department to her build, physic, colouring. I actually thought they'd lost her clothes and grabbed a locals wardrobe.
