Thanks for your thoughtful review of the first episode. You've spared me the waste of 45 minutes it would have…
Not only disgraceful, but also disrespectful to their audience and the gay community. I just find it all so very lazy, lame and indeed shameless, because it is simply about cashing in and continues to get worse in this respect.
And here we go again. Welcome to the treadmill of BL dramas, Thailand stylie.
Handsome males. Tick. Special shout out to the stunning lips of Ben (I was truly mesmerised by them) and Jaab's overall beauty coupled with a great hairstyle. Overacting galore. Tick. To the point it made for uncomfortable and annoying viewing, especially in terms of the character, Ying - she has to be the worst depiction of a character I've ever witnessed coming out of Thailand. Even Pat's childish overacting I found hard to stomach at times. However, I thought Man delivered his lines well - I got a real sense of the character he was commissioned to play. Long pauses and silences between sentences. Tick. What is that all about, it doesn't in the least make it suspenseful, because very few people react in this way. Useless filler conversations that have no relevance to the story. Tick. That whole nonsense in the café over not sharing the ice-cream with Jaab was so pointless. I thought this could have been better used to introduce the characters as I liked the fact they spoke openly about Pat being gay and could see their obvious friendship.
So, lets see. Do I think it will be a much needed memorable drama from Thailand? No. Do I think I'll be enthralled by the acting? No. Do I think this is going to be yet another mass ball of unrealistic silly childish fluff? Yes. The office culture alone has told me this much. Am I here to see how it evolves? Oh yes, I'll definitely be here for the next episode and perhaps further, because right now, the only character I'm buying into is Yeng's and I'm interested enough to see how his relationship will build with Pat.
Could you please expand a bit on what you mean by "gay culture?" What would the depiction of "true life" look…
I so hear you in the main. However, I didn’t find it cliché ridden, more like a lost opportunity in the fact that had something good that they didn’t take to fruition.

In my brain, gay culture is exactly the same as heterosexual culture. A man meets a man. Desires him. Wants to either fuck him instantly or is so turned on and excited by the thought of getting to know him and his personality, they take the time to know and learn about each other to grow a relationship. To me, that's true life, irrespective of whether you're gay or straight. This show disappointed me in the fact that it chickened out when it set us up for so, so much more.
You said it sister! I was also disappointed that the show did not develop the relationship between Kim Dong Hee…
Maggi, I feel so cheated in terms of the narrative of the 2nd leads, as they would have made for a lovely story, but instead they chose their narrative to be mostly about Kim Dong Hee punching Go Ho Tae constantly hitting him in the chest. WT
I honestly think the dead kissing scenes were all about the Director and why? Simply because it is South Korea. Homophobic restrains me thinks. Why set up such beautiful chemistry not to turn it into realism and all the dramas you quoted back up what we both believe.
Japanese culture when it comes to their off the scale, fucked up in the head, incredible style for telling a quirky story leaves me mesmerised. No other culture can tell a story like the Japanese. FACT. I'm here for this. It makes me laugh and smile, whilst going WTAF is going on here. Love it.
For me, this was a beautiful drama. Stunning cinematography, a beautiful script and narrative and the writing of the lines for our two leads really beautiful and delivered effortlessly with so much feeling. I felt it. Yes, I hated the fish kisses, but I did adore and feel the amazing chemistry of all those beautiful hugs. In fact, I would have happily continued to enjoy the series, minus the terrible fish kisses and just go with the hugs, even though that's simply not logical behaviour between gay or even heterosexual couples.
I found it a shame that they didn't build out and develop the relationship between Kim Dong Hee and Go Ho Tae our 2nd leads. It left me feeling, what was the point of including them. Week after week of asking date me for a month, for nothing to evolve - a wasted opportunity me thinks!
Now this is what really pissed me off and so typical of South Korea. You give us in the main, beautiful writing (lacking depth at times), storytelling, cinematography and stunning looking actors. However, you rarely commit or indeed take that much needed step to wholeheartedly own, understand and embrace gay culture. FACT! This series in the final two episodes, has once again hit the 'curse of the South Korean final episode homophobic culture', quite like many this year have done. We see you as an audience as we're realists and as realists, we demand realism to true life. You want that lucrative revenue stream gained from BL culture, but until you commit, embrace and indeed understand gay culture, I will continue to berate you for your shortcomings. #JustSayin'
What about the endless and boring scene where JH went shopping and lunching with that annoying girl? What did…
Nothing. Because she’s far too in your face for his character. Beyond annoying for me, with zero sense of boundaries. Realistically, I can’t see his personality being friends with someone like that. I think her hearts good, it’s just the way they’ve chosen to deliver her character.
It simply means do you want to come back to my place for sex:-)
Yes, I so hear you. Totally see why you found it odd. Both are very widely available - so to my mind it kinda made sense once I found they formed part of the #UrbanDictionary

I’ve taken Ramen and Netflix and Chill is a tongue in cheek way to openly state that you’re inviting that person around for sex, so making your intentions clear, especially if a one-night-stand what you want! #UrbanDictionary
