I really enjoyed Sword and Fairy. If you go into knowing that it's a faithful restoration of an RPG game with the same kind of plot layout (i.e., the plot isn't handed to you up front, it slowly unravels as you get further in the show, just like a video game), it may make the experience better. I think a lot of people went into it thinking it would be like most other game adaptations - the bones of the story kept intact but adapted for TV drama. Apparently, it's very faithful to the source material (per the creators and fans of the game), right down to small mannerisms that the characters display. (A lot of the criticisms the actors seemed to get for 'bad acting' was them almost perfectly mimicking the characters in the game play . . . which is the opposite of bad acting in my humble opinion lol)
I'd say give it a try if you like fantasy/adventure and are willing to give it some time to build up the characters and plot. It's definitely a back heavy show, so anyone that dropped it before episodes 16-20 really missed out, in my opinion *shrug*
I'm really enjoying BCE so far - I just watched episode 29 and it was great. I think it just keeps getting better and better. There's been a lot of . . . disagreement over the mom character, in particular. But she doesn't bother me so much that it affects my enjoyment of the show :)
Just know it's predominantly female-lead centric and a family drama. There's romance, yes, but it's slow burn so requires patience if that's the main thing you're looking for.
Me (after Sword and Fairy): I will never purchase Fast Pass again. I should learn patience and not encourage the obvious money-grabbing initiative of large corporations
Me (seeing BCE Fast Pass anounced): Take my money Tencent!!!!
Guys, I wanna ask if this show is seriously that bad or are people exaggerating...Side note:I've been lurking…
For me, it's one of the best dramas I've watched recently. The script, cast/acting, pacing, character development are all quite good! It's definitely more slice of life/family drama, centered around the FL and her family, particularly her mother. There is romance, but it's very much slow burn (but also really well done and developed), but once it hits it's oh so sweet!
This show has been breaking records in China - this drama's target audience - who also are not upset at all about the mother or family (from everything I've heard at least). They actually seem to relate and see it as a realistic portrayal - so I think the 'burn witch burn' mentality here is just a reflection of the disconnect between cultural norms. Additionally, most of us who aren't nearly as bothered by the mother were basically getting harshly criticized and/or bullied whenever we spoke up for her, so a lot of us have stopped - so I definitely think the comments are more skewed because of that as well.
In the end, it's up to you. If controlling parents aren't something that's stopped you from enjoying other Asian dramas, I'd say go for it!
Those who say there is no chemistry , i just want to say that they should consult a eye specialist for them ...
XK has had excellent chemistry with all of this recent leading ladies - I don't know what some people consider 'chemistry' if they don't think YZ and XK have it lol
I couldn't imagine giving up custody of my child in a divorce. But I understand there was a power and money imbalance…
It's emotional blackmail toward his ex, and emotional/psychological abuse of his son. I look forward to and will rejoice when karma finally catches up to him (at least I hope we get to see it)
Mao is at fault till now ... firstly she gave up the custody of a child which already leaves a bad impact on a…
I think Mao only gave up full custody - hopefully she has partial custody protected by law, which is why she has visitation days. If the laws are anything like that here in the US, partial custody/visitation is set in stone. The other party cannot withhold/prevent the other parent from that time granted by the court, nor can they manipulate, coerce, or deceive children into not wanting to spend time with their other parent.
Ding Ding only got so upset because his grandma (dad's side) said things that no one should ever tell a small child. That alone should constitute a violation of their custody agreement, and the fact that the father is actively preventing her from her court-appointed time is such a scumbag move and probably illegal. I hope they rake that a**hole over the coals in court - he shouldn't be allowed to raise children. Just another manipulative toxic man who can't take the fact that no woman wants to put up with his BS except apparently his mother.
Sorry to come across so aggressive (it's not towards you but the situation) - there are certain things that really upset me - reality or fiction - and one of them is child abuse.
Also yang zi is such a great actor ..she really potray all the emotions so well.. i also started crying while…
I generally don't cry easily in dramas, let alone scenes not involving character death . . . but I shed a few tears during their conversation for sure T__T
I also wondered about this, but when I saw it, I explained it to myself as her being so feisty that she does it…
She called her father's bodyguard "orabeoni" which is an older term similar to "oppa" so I'm assuming he's an illegitimate son . . . possibly the Queen Dowager's?? I could see that level of WTF from this drama XD
I think I will to start watching the series after looking through snippets of the eps along the way. It looks…
The way the leads' romance is developed is slow burn but oh so very natural feeling, and I've really really enjoyed it. Don't get me wrong, I like my campy rom-coms full of dramatic and fantastical tropes too - but this has surprisingly been a breath of fresh air. I normally watch dramas to escape reality - but this one is realistic and done so well. There aren't many c- or k-dramas that have made me think deep thoughts about multiple important issues quite like this one (e.g. gender equality, generational conflict, family dynamics).
This is a drama you can 'chew' on for a long time after watching each episode. Ah, I will stop before I really start waxing poetic about it. This has just been a surprise drama for me - I really didn't think I'd love it as much as I do!
if you are talking about ML not getting the hotel, I don't know if it counts as betrayal. the grandmother saved…
He also said that if it came at the expense of her health, he would give it up.
Grandma could tell that YZM was starting to develop warm feeling for MCH (whether as family or romantically), and knew that he would protect both of them if she asked him to. Which is what she did in her letter to him, as well as gave him the chance to find family in the Mais.
At first I was also a little upset that she didn't divvy up the hotel 50/50 or maybe skewed more to MCH, but after seeing the contents of her letter to YZM it all made sense to me at least
i think he always dub himself in all of his dramas.
The only other drama he's used his own voice in before BCE is She and Her Perfect Husband. He's been dubbed in everything else including Falling Into Your Smile.
He's moving toward dubbing himself in most if not all roles though. He dubbed himself in upcoming As Beautiful As You, and I've heard he would like to dub himself in Moonlit Reunion. Costume dramas are apparently more picky about dubbing though (they're less forgiving of accents, I've heard), so he may not get his wish on that one.
But someone who knows more about dubbing in c-ent correct me if I'm wrong

(I’m not sure if that will happen but they’d be the power couple of hotel management if they did 😄)
