Yeah, I agree that XK has haters but the amount of vile vitriol I’ve seen directed at YZ (and other female celebs in particular) here and on other sites is especially mindblowing. XK also gets more hate than other male actors from what I’ve seen. People can be very mean and I honestly don’t understand how people say such things so easily

I also think it’s funny that people are calling this drama cliche but then clamoring for romance/love at first sight in the first couple episodes like every other rom-com drama on the face of the earth 🤣🤣

Lol you are underestimating the tenacity and depth of hatred some people have for particular celebrities/idol groups. These people can only find happiness in bringing others down. It’s unfortunately a common thing in a lot of Asian entertainment circles. Kpop has it bad too

Oh, I may have misunderstood or the translations were unclear/inaccurate. It seemed to me that YZM said his grandfather cheated soon after marriage and YZM was taken abroad after the divorce which from a timeline standpoint only makes sense if the step-grandfather is the one who cheated. I'm not surprised if the translations are just wrong - I've seen someone else commenting on the inaccurate subs already

Is that really good? I have no idea how Chinese TV ratings work or what is considered successful or not haha

American and Korean TV ratings are also a complete mystery to me to be honest

To add to their relationship, MCH had a bad childhood disease (Kawasaki Syndrome) and grandma stepped in to help pay for her treatments. And they've been close since then, from what I gather.

ML was taken abroad by his father and I guess step-grandpa (who cheated on grandma soon after marriage). Maybe that's why MCH's dad isn't close to her? Maybe he feels guilty about his father's infidelity, or possibly jealous that his father chose the step-mom's son. I'm sure we'll get more background about their history

Lol you should watch Fireworks of my Heart. FLs mom in that is nth degree horrific. It’s probably why the mom in this show doesn’t bother me much at all. I’ve seen much worse 🤣

Lol I thought you didn’t want cliche? What you described is every other Patriarchy-framed coming of age story that gets rehashed in Western entertainment over and over. To me that’s boring. If this isn’t your cup of tea, there are literally 1000s of other dramas out there for you. Wish you the best!

Perhaps if he continues to get less screen time throughout the show, I may be upset. For now though, I think him being more on the periphery makes sense for the plot. I try to view dramas as a whole rather than focus on one actor - even if he’s my absolute fave. Some of his previous dramas tested my patience with his screen time (RF and CL come to mind) but I still found enjoyment in them to varying extents. I really like this drama so far so I hope that momentum continues! I also hope you start to enjoy it more as well 😊

Yeah those are the people coming at me everytime because I try to defend the drama - as in “this is exactly what’s written on the tin why are you so mad???” lol I brought haters in on it because those same people are also @me any time i mention haters rating low. The dropped rating for this is 1.75 - and to me no one except people hating on something just to hate it would rate 1-2

It seems like anytime I try to defend this drama or bring up haters rating low purely to bring the rating down, I got people crawling out of the woodwork foaming at the mouth to chew me out about it like I've somehow offended their ancestors. It's freaking hilarious how pressed these people are to be honest. As much fun as it would be to keep replying and encouraging their ridiculousness, they're also not worth my time XD

lol the people rating this 6-7.5 likely aren't significantly driving the score down much at all and are not included in the group I personally think of as haters. It's the accounts rating this as 1 or 2 after only 1 episode or more likely, without watching a single episode. Look at the dropped rating (hover your mouse over the rating to see the breakdown). I find it hard to believe that any drama that isn't a garage production done by middle schoolers deserves a rating of 1 or 2. But MDL is super shady about their data, so who even knows what their ratings mean
