The punishment scenes get shorter and shorter as you move on and the relationship between the leads evolve further
Thanks for the info. Well that's good news ^^

If this is not the drama of the year, which one do you reckon is?
There are literally hundreds of dramas coming out each year. At the end of the day it's down to your personal taste and more importantly the shows you've seen. But I'd never give my personal "drama of the year" award to a drama with such annoying side characters and as mentioned above, I utterly DESPISE misunderstanding tropes especially when that could be avoided if people behaved like adults and TALKED.
Translations for episode 18 are out by the way... I haven't seen the episode yet but I've spoiled myself some key scenes and YES, they managed to make the woman who should not be named look even worse than she already was.

As for my personal favorite romance of the year, my personal vote goes to Lovely Runner. It has its flaws, but overall I enjoyed every single episode I watched without being irritated or annoyed or feeling the drama was too long. For me it was a huge treat with which I was totally enamored from start to finish so there's no contest in my heart for which drama is taking my "drama of the year" award (for now).

Unfortunately so far Thai dramas have been extremely disappointing for me this year... I dropped over 12 Thai shows and the few I finished were meh at best.
This one is actually the best of the lot I've seen. I'm currently giving it a solid 8 in spite of its length and all the things I mentioned above.

This being said, there's 1 month and 10 days left so we'll see.
Also if you read my bio on my page, I watch shows when I want to. I don't bother with following shows whenever they come out or whatever. Too much hassle. So I'm sure I've missed some good shows in the middle.

On episode 4 and I still don't know how I feel about this drama. It won't be a 10 for sure and though Bit Na has only punished scumbags so far... I personally take no pleasure or enjoyment watching anybody exert gratuitous violence. Sure they deserved it and sure Bit Na is a demon so I get that this is basically supposed to give the audience some form of a cathartic feeling seeing an evil person be on the receiving end of what they inflicted on others but I find these scenes overly long and painful to watch...

I like Park Shin Hye and Kim Jae Young enough to give this show 2 additional episodes to stick around before I decide whether I drop this or not but for the moment... I'm going to be part of the minority who doesn't understand the hype. I see what I'm supposed to feel (i.e mostly being amused by Bit Na's antics and satisfied when she punishes bad guys) but I feel none of the emotions I'm supposed to have.

I just wanna add though that this is only the second time that Tor has worked with Yaya (and also his second drama…
Oh thanks for the information ^^
Well then, both actors are even more amazing then, being able to portray that much chemistry without having interacted much ^^

Finally caught up with episode 17 just in time to finish the series at the same it finishes airing this week.

This won't be my favorite drama of the year... nor even my favorite Thai drama of the year as I think the series is overly long like most lakorns I've tried ( in fact this is one of the few "traditional lakorn" i.e not-bl that I'll manage to finish, most of the time I end up dropping them) and I LOATHE, HATE AND UTTER DESPISE misunderstanding tropes and the beginning of the series is filled to the brim with it...

BUT! Anong and Wichai? Hands down, best couple of the year, all dramas/country whatever included. Girl pursuing the Guy first is one of my least favorite trope but here it just works so well. Couldn't have worked otherwise. Like most of the time, you see the girl pursuing the guy, who rejects her and then he changes his mind, and the girl who was really upfront turns into being shy as soon as the guy ups his game... And I don't mind that...

But there's something really refreshing with Anong's personality. She's sassy and beautiful, she knows what she wants and she goes for it. Only somebody like that could get a man like Wichai because with his personality, if it wasn't for Chut, he would never have dared talk to her. I just love their dynamic, such a well-matched couple 😍😍😍 Also If I didn't know Yaya had a fiancé IRL, I would have thought these two were involved IRL as well. They're so sweet together and their chemistry is I-N-S-A-N-E.

As much as I'm not a huge fan of the Thai system which consists of having actors belong to certain channels and hence always acting together ( albeit for a few freelance actors), I have to admit that one positive thing is that these actors are so used to work together that after a couple of years, they end up having crazy chemistry onscreen. It can only feel real like that when people are used to each other.

Also, it's just so refreshing to see that dynamic from time to time... It's not my favorite ( yeah I prefer the guy to pursue the girl first, but I'm a woman so obviously I prefer the fantasy of being desired than the opposite) but when its done well such as here, it's such a treat!!!

Apart from the misunderstandings, the most annoying thing in this drama is the woman who should not be named... BUT Not kidding I just finished "One and Only" , for those of you who have watched it, you understand when I say that the woman who should not be named is NOTHING compared to what some of the characters have done in this series.
Honestly next to them, she's pretty nice.

Doesn't mean I can tolerate her though.

This being said I'm 10 000% sure she's gonna do a 180 and turn all nice this week because of "thai drama", gotta forgive your parents even if they SUCK and deserve to finish their lives alone.

BUT nothing will ever compare to the trauma of One and Only... So I'll probably vent a bit, but I'm also getting ready to the fact that the woman who should not be named will be forgiven by the end.

EDIT: Forgot to add! Chut, you're a man-child but as we say in French "La vérité sort de la bouche des enfants" - "The truth comes out of children's mouths" . I've started to like you since episode 17. Still a shitty husband but putting that awful woman in her place was oh so satisfying... Wichai should learn from you in that aspect.

Yet another drama on MDL that I've seen many negative comments about and it turned out the show was actually pretty solid when watching it.
Apart from the romance which I'm honestly not a fan of ( insta-love is a turn-off for me, couldn't believe it for a second given how little time our leads spent together), it was an amazing show, very emotional and touching but also pretty grim.

Took me over 2 weeks to watch the 2 last episodes given how depressing things turned out to be.

Anyway, I think I'm going to forfeit watching any shows as they are airing altogether because for the past year, apart from Lovely Runner, my opinion ran contrary to the ones of most people watching it live. Shows that were endlessly praised turned out to be disappointing, and shows people kept on criticizing turned out to be amazing. Better wait at least a couple of weeks to see a more balanced opinion in the comment section.

So here's my 2 cents: Give it a shot and judge for yourself but be sure to be in the mood because this show is DARK as hell. It definitely differs from the usual K drama fare though. Watch it for the story and forget the romance even though it becomes the most important motivation for the ML by the end . The family story though... is chef's kiss, as tragic as it is.

I probably will never rewatch this - too dark for me - and I'm gonna wait a couple of weeks before watching season 2 because I need to "digest" the show but overall it's a solid 9 for me.

So...
Just finished it. I don't understand the bad reviews. This show is like most romance shows: pretty predictable but overall pretty enjoyable and cute.
I've seen way worse shows on MDL getting better ratings.

The only thing I was "mildly annoyed" is how little screentime was given to the second couple. I would have preferred more of them than the last "plot twist" regarding the triple AAA game development I never cared about.

Also general remark...
I've only been watching C dramas for a bit over two years now ( I did watch a couple of shows before but like... as for truly following C dramas, only since 2022) and I just DON'T UNDERSTAND
why literally every single wuxia I've watched have butchered ending, completely rushed to the point of not being understandable... while every single romance I've watched feels like they're always adding many extra unnecessary episodes when the series should have ended 5 to 10 episodes before. WTF China?

This show was pretty cool up to episode 20. The 4 extra episodes are overkill. I wasn't annoyed per say, nor did I feel these episodes sucked either... but they just felt unnecessary.
I was in the mood for something light, so It didn't truly bother me... but usually this is the time of thing that would make me remove 2 to 3 points for "gooey sweetness and unnecessary dragging".

Final ratings 8

chut is honestly overall such an unlikeable person. he's unlikeable as a brother, son, friend, and now husband.…
My.. Though I agree with what you wrote... You're pretty harsh 😂
As a husband, friend and brother I think he sucks... As a son though... honestly his mother turned him this way. Also, she's horrible so I think she definitely deserves the son she spoiled rotten to turn against her. That's karma for you.

On Episode 11

I thought Chut was just a very immature little brother but you can see all the warning signs of a very shitty marriage ahead. Dude does whatever he wants without consulting his wife. Poor Chantorn. I've seen my own parents' marriage play exactly the same way and you're in for a lot of bitterness down the road. Doesn't matter that he has no bad intentions... at the end of the day, he considers he knows better and don't care for your opinion.
Which is why women must get married young: At that age, you're blinded by love so even the most basic warning signs are ignored. Older woman are not as stupid. Anong really avoided a huge bullet here.

Well, it's a romance series so I guess, their problems will be resolved at some point, but given the story happens in 1947... with men's mindsets at the time... Honestly, I doubt Chut is going to change.

Anyway, that was my 2 cents...

Title My Cherie Amour Spoiler
On Episode 09:
It's very clear this drama has been based on an old book. The level of miscommunication is just ridiculous. I love that everyone is assuming who loves who based on their own assumptions and that includes Wichai who is the first victim of all of these assumptions. This wouldn't work by today's standards. I hate miscommunications trope. They're the worst. I'm still enjoying the drama but MY GOD I'm tired of people running away with this idea that Wichai is into Chantorn. I can't even blame Anong for believing it since everyone is telling her that he was courting Chantorn which is ridiculous given he's spent more time with her than she ever spent with her own supposed "ex-fiancé".

I'm glad I spoiled myself the following episodes because if it wasn't for that, I'd probably be on the verge of breaking my screen.

Well at least I think Chantorn and Chut make a good couple. I might not like the way it happened ( basically Chut wants somebody to pamper him), but I do think they match.

I'm loving this drama but the annoying characters are A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G. I still haven't reached the "honeymoon phase" episodes because I can't stomach too many episodes on the row. My irritation level just goes sky high especially with the mother from hell.

Can someone tell me if the novel had a happy ending? They got married and there are 4 episodes left still…so…
I haven't read the novel but I bought it and checked the end. When the main leads get together it's the end of chapter 33 and the book is only 35 chapters long. Needless to say... The end of the novel feel extremely rushed though it's a happy ending, it's very frustrating to not see Wichai make amends and some sweet moments between him and Anong. There is no last minute drama or anything... I've only flipped through it though, but from what I gathered it's only scenes where they declare their intention to their respective families and Wichai's brother's marriage.

In that regards, given the last few episodes (which I haven't watched... but I've spoiled myself rotten at this point), this drama is much more fleshed out concerning Wichai and Anong's relationship. So I don't know what's gonna happen for the last 3 episodes left... BUT it terms of sweetness... The lakorn delivers while the book does not.

Cdrama MLs are always written as too perfect in all their ways, they are always the most intelligent, in-fact…
Thanks for your comment. Based on what you wrote, I'm gonna skip this one for now. I'm also the type who prefers plot-heavy dramas but need to counter things out with a little bit of romance... as long it's not too cheesy... Unless I'm watching shows that are too tragic or pretty dark at the same time, that's the only time I can enjoy the "gooey" type. So your comment hits home for me. Pretty helpful. I'm also a bit fed up with the "overly perfect ML" in C dramas. To be clear, I love the cheese. But it would be great to have a little bit of realism.

Being a surgeon, takes years and lots of hard work
Being an artist, takes years and lots of hard work
Being a chef, takes years and lots of hard work
Being an actor or a singer ... well that one doesn't count. Connexions matter more than talent or hard work, at least to get into these fields...

Unless this drama is sci-fi and each day lasts 72 hours and the dude DOESN'T SLEEP that's just not possible UNLESS, the dude's in his later 40s early 50s and had no relationships before...Because trust me, I've done LOTS of things in my life, one is actually listed, and I know how much time and dedication it requires. No way in hell, you can do all of that this young... unless maybe he's filthy rich and every single thing in his life is done by some employee but even then you'd need to have 72 hours long day and start literally from the craddle (and never stop) to achieve all of these.

"His shit probably smelled like roses and lavender" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

That made my day thank you ^^

Most comments are pretty negative... I'm personally really enjoying for the moment. Nothing extraordinary but I'm currently watching 5 shows ( 1 is an anime) and out of these 5 shows, 3 of them are plot-heavy and pretty sad, so I needed to lighten things up with a brainless watch and this one fits the bill.

I'd probably rate it 8 or 8.5 purely on my "enjoyment value" so far... But again I'm still in the middle of the phase where Gu Xun is groveling so I might change my mind when watching later episodes, we'll see.

Currently on episode 3.
I've scarcely watched any straight romance from Thailand and this one caught my eyes because of the nonsensical title. Doesn't make any sense neither in French nor in English but MY GOD it is pretty!!!!

First time time watching this actress as well. She's drop dead gorgeous. Her face reminds me of Korean actress Song Hye Gyo. Anyway, just wanted to drop by to say that this is one of the best Thai series I've seen in a while. It's romantic and cheesy but not to the point of being cringe. The main leads are too pretty for words ( especially yaya) and the costumes...
My God the costumes... B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L
Also, it doesn't look cheap for once. I'm loving this.

I spoiled myself episode 10 and 11 so I know what to expect... But I've also bought the book on MEB
(btw I don't for how long the deal is up but for those of you who speak thai or are learning the language, you can currently get four books ... including this one for the price of only one book ( I haven't checked if it's by the same author but my guess is no based on the covers), so grab it while it's still available if you're interested: https://www.mebmarket.com/ebook-327678-SET-4-%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%A1%E0%B8%95%E0%B8%B0%E0%B8%A7%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%93%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%A1%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%82%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%94%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%81%E0%B9%84%E0%B8%A1%E0%B9%89%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%94
)

[I copy pasted the direct link but some characters are in thai and it gave that when pasted sorry... dunno if it works. If it doesn't, just copy paste the title of the thai novel here, then click on the name of the author and you should be redirected to the deal in question]

Anyway I quickly checked and based on the book... What happens in episode 11 is at the end of chapter 33 if I'm not mistaken...
Except the book is only 35 chapters long...

And based on what I've spoiled myself, I really want to see Wichai showing more openly his feelings to Anong ( and suffer a bit just because I prefer when the guy is pursuing the woman first and here we got a reversal... so I want Anong's feelings to be better reciprocated - but again I'm only on episode 3 but I've spoiled myself a couple/dozens of scenes here and there... well everywhere and this is how I feel so far) because it feels like she's the only putting herself out there. The ending is like super rushed in the novel seriously. It's frustrating.

There's 8 episodes left so I'm guessing/HOPING they're not gonna be faithful to the end of the novel and show Wichai fight for his love and making up for all the hurtful things he said to Anong.
Can't see how he did it though. If I was a man, my brain would probably malfunction as soon as she gave me even half a glance.

Also I HATE Wichai's mother, I hope Wichai abandons her by the end of the series... But this is a lakorn and from what I've heard, it has the same type of very frustrating shitty characters that get an undeserved redemption at the end like in most Korean family dramas ( reason why I no longer bother with them btw).
