TRANSLATION FROM CHAPTER 11 to 45

Seems most people haven't noticed, but pen_p has been translated the novel in English from Chapter 11 to 45 already... (She's still translating as we speak and she gave me an estimation of when she's gonna finish... but I'm not gonna share because she's already done too much in such a short amount of time, I don't want to give her additional pressure)

It's in the forum:

https://kisskh.at/discussions/the-number-you-have-dialed/132368-novel-translation

For those of you who are impatient.

Note: Be sure to check which chapter you're reading though. MDL forum has lagged and some chapters have been uploaded out of order.

Good reading for those who have the time... I don't... so I only (heavily) flipped through the juiciest parts.

EDIT: Btw this is actually the BEST translation available with Chapter 1 to 11 on

https://moonlightnovel.com/novels/when-the-phone-rings/

Not to discredit any other translations available, because it is still done for free... But pen_p's and Samona's translations are the most English accurate.

My heart bleeds for this poor turtle who is spending its time trying to get out of that tiny mini space. These animals are nothing like dogs in the first place, it should be forbidden to be raised... But even then, you don't need to love animals to see this turtle only wants one thing which is TO GET OUT. Diew, you're not being a friend, you're being a TYRANT to this turtle who doesn't care about your life's issues.

Overall for the moment, the drama is cute. Nothing extraordinary. I haven't watched a single university BL in almost a year so this is a nice distraction without any ambition, but I think that if I had watched other dramas in the genre in recent weeks I'd probably be bored out of my mind.

I'm dying to read the novels but apparently they're only available on Kakao... ( I have verified accounts on Mrblue and Ridibooks but I didn't find them there)
Problem: It's easy to create an account but you need a verified account to get the uncensored version of the trilogy (19+). Otherwise you only get access to the 15 and under age... i.e the less spicy ones when basically the whole point of the story is THE SPICE.

Hence: Apparently you NEED a Korean number in order to verify your account (I verified mine with my French number, but it only asks you if you're 14 or older)... I have no time to look for another solution right now but if anybody knows how to verify one's account on Kakao without a Korean phone number, you'll have my undying and eternal gratitude. I'm really DYING to read the original material!

I'm probably going to die from a heart attack before this drama finishes. I regret starting this. Reminds me of Lovely Runner... I wasn't expecting anything, checked the first episode and I was a goner...

I'm not going to bother arguing with you or the person above more. You seem to be type that gang up on anybody that doesn't share the same opinion as you do which basically is a dead give-away on how old you are without even having to bother looking at your profile. There are lots of ways which are more polite and civil to say you disagree with my comment but obviously you need to rely on passive agressive comments, a trend that is sadly very common these days. Being free to express your opinion doesn't mean you have to be rude to others who don't agree with you. Anyway, last time I expressed myself here. Time is too precious to argue with random kids online.

you could've just read the tags, there is enough warning on the violence.
Well no.
It's written "violence" not "extreme violence" which is a tendency that has unfortunately drastically increased in K dramas in recent years. I've personally given up on western dramas because of it, it's not to find it in Kdramas. I've been watching them for almost 20 years. There used to be a time when even knives were blurred. Also tags are pretty misleading, if you look up the K drama "Voice" for instance, the scenes in that drama are pretty graphic as well, yet there's no "violence" tag. It's all very subjective.

I don't mind a bit of violence but there's a limit to what I consider acceptable. If you scroll down you'll see I'm not the only one who has made such comment.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. Dropped for the same reason.
On The Judge from Hell Nov 22, 2024
Dropping this one. Lots of people liked it but quoting my previous comment:

"On episode 4 and I still don't know how I feel about this drama. It won't be a 10 for sure and though Bit Na has only punished scumbags so far... I personally take no pleasure or enjoyment watching anybody exert gratuitous violence. Sure they deserved it and sure Bit Na is a demon so I get that this is basically supposed to give the audience some form of a cathartic feeling seeing an evil person be on the receiving end of what they inflicted on others but I find these scenes overly long and painful to watch...

I like Park Shin Hye and Kim Jae Young enough to give this show 2 additional episodes to stick around before I decide whether I drop this or not but for the moment... I'm going to be part of the minority who doesn't understand the hype. I see what I'm supposed to feel (i.e mostly being amused by Bit Na's antics and satisfied when she punishes bad guys) but I feel none of the emotions I'm supposed to have."

Somebody told me it would diminish as time goes by... Episode 6 is the last episode I saw entirely than I checked later episodes a bit... Still overly violent and I also personally cannot stomach seeing people being violent and enjoying it at the same time. In this drama whether criminals or demons, they're all completely twisted. Hence, in spite of the overall consensus that this series is worth watching, I think a warning for people who are sensible to violence is due.

This is not a show for everyone.

I like thrillers and Fantasy like the next person but I believe suggested violence is just as effective as putting all that blood onscreen. It makes me sick and utterly disgusted to such a degree that I've lost all curiosity for the romance that is to come and the mystery regarding real Bit Na's death.

I respect your point of view, but not way in hell am I watching a drama I disliked twice. I'm not into sadomasochism. I've watched everything from start to finish once and it's already too much in my book. Given how many dramas come out all the time, I'd rather give that time to dramas that I consider worth my time than this one. I don't regret watching it... But I truly feel like I've wasted my precious time.

Is everyone suffering from amnesia in this drama?
I just can't get past the mother. She deserves no forgiveness. Everyone acts like they forgot the years of mental abuse and the fact that she left Choi to live in poverty never visiting her and her niece until her husband died + forcing Wichai to marry a woman he didn't love and then mentally torturing said woman (who basically was only a tool to pay their debt) until she committed suicide.
And I'm not even talking about all the general slurs she used on a daily basis talking about Chantorn, Anong and Wichai's former wife. That is another form of abuse.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!

Final ratings: 2

I know Asian forgiveness is a staple of these family dramas but I just can't forgive nor forget. I love the main couple but Anong forgiving this witch goes beyond my understanding. That's 3 points removed for how IRRITATING, ANNOYING and FRUSTRATING the mother was with her getting an undeserved redemption for crying a little by the end. That might work for some but not for me.
And another 2 points removed for all the misunderstandings. I just hate that trope.

I didn't drop this because of how lovable the main couple was... and all their gorgeous outfits, especially Yaya who was stunningly beautiful from start to finish.... but unfortunately I'm left with feeling mostly frustrated instead of happy by the end of this journey in spite of all the syrup we got in the last episode.

Best traditional lakhorn I've seen this year ( and I dropped MANY)... Still not one I would qualify as a good drama unfortunately.
Given how the ratings is currently at 8, I'm sure I'm not the only one who is deeply dissatisfied with how this drama played out.

I plan to watch this drama. Kindly give me some spoilers regarding:1. When are the main couple officially together?2.…
1. End of episode 11 sorta. They get together/not get together but basically they're together. Can't explain more without spoilers.
2. No breakups.
3. See 2/
4. They have some minor arguments but since 2/ nothing worth mentionning.
5. Not really but there's a "fake" love triangle at the beginning that is not a triangle from the outside since the ML doesn't pursue the FL to let the SML get together with her.
6. No
7. Happy ending (I'm personally not entirely satisfied but I'll have to make peace with it).

Basically your questions apply to generic type of romance in most dramas, but this drama has a very refreshing romance in which roles are basically reversed so none of your questions really "hit the mark" in a sense because they just don't apply to this story.
Basically the main couple is golden but expect LOTS and LOTS of misunderstandings and one side character who is just TERRIBLE.
The romance between the lead is actually the only part that I found perfect from beginning to end but the side characters... My God...

I wish Anong would be honest with Wichai about what she was investigating about him, especially after she promised…
Hmm yes and no...
Yes Anong misunderstood that woman's deed... But at the same time, given how the latter had behaved so far, we can't blame Anong for thinking the worse of this woman.

As for having using Lady Mahorn to put pressure on the mother... Let's not forget the MOTHER intended to use Anong through Lady Mahorn in the first place. If this woman had a shred of humanity, she would have confessed without Anong having to resort to indirect blackmail. I honestly don't think this woman can be defended in any aspect. She is just plain selfish, now that the consequences of her disgusting behavior are going to touch not only her sons but also her sorry ass, she's feeling sorry all of a sudden.

JESUS!Finally finished episode 18. No amount of crying will ever redeem the mother in my book. Also...
I love Anong, but honestly comforting this monster after what she's done? NO WAY. It might be in the past, but a young woman was treated like shit for months, years even and ended dying in a cupboard all of that from sheer cruelty.

After that, instead of learning her lesson, this woman kept on acting like she was above everybody else, treated her eldest son like shit, and called "tramp" every woman who approached her golden son... who also ended up rejecting her which says a lot about what a horrible person she is.

She does deserve an award: WORST MOTHER IN FICTION. Sure she didn't beat her children, but mental torture is just as cruel. BUT OF COURSE, she's gonna get her redemption arc because this is a lakhorn.

MAN I'M SO PISSED.

This drama is best when we only deal with the romance aspect, anything involving Wichai's family is just frustraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaating as hell.

Now planning on giving this series a 7.

This show would have been perfect WITHOUT the mother. I know we need a little bit of drama, but this character makes my blood boil so much it just spoiled the whole experience for me.
And it's too bad because I truly LOVE the main couple. I even think Chantorn and Chut are well matched... even as I'm not a huge fan of Chut's man's child attitude.

I wish Anong would be honest with Wichai about what she was investigating about him, especially after she promised…
I agree about everything except regarding the mother. Soon was innocent. She didn't know how to give the money back. If the mother was a good person, she would have tried to give Soon a way out or contact Wichai so that he found a solution to the problem. Instead, Soon was isolated and helpless which led to her death.
What I wonder though... is WHERE WAS SOON'S FAMILY?

We're told Wichai married her to get rid of his mother's debt but in that case that means Soon's family was wealthy. How come they let Soon be treated this way?

As for Wichai and Anong's discussion, I personally didn't agree. Wichai said "let's face things together" but when you listen to their argument it's clear he's got the "I'm the man, I should be responsible for everything" type of old-fashionned personality. Given the character and the period at which the book that gave birth to that series was written, it's not abnormal he has such a mindset... ( as infuriating as it is) but Anong is a woman who is ahead of her time and I was feeling for her because it was obvious everything he said didn't sit well with her.

She should not hide things but the issue is if she doesn't Wichai is going to take everything on his shoulders without listening to what she would suggest in the first place, so It's obvious from her point of view that it's better to do things her way to protect him and THEN tell him about it since he's got a savior's complex.

Glad I wasn't born during this era.

If this is not the drama of the year, which one do you reckon is?
Well Actually I just remembered... There was "My Stand-In" and "4 Minutes" from Thailand that I actually adored this year in spite of their flaws. Both became favorites. Completely forgot about these two among the sea of dissapointments... But these are BLs. For traditional lakhorn unfortunately... this is the only one I haven't dropped with "Ready Set Love"... And I'm not sure the latter count as a "traditional lakorn"... Plot took a nose dive by the end but the series was short enough that it wasn't too bothersome.
