Title Blossom
Looking for a recommendation... I have only the 25th to binge a series and I'm currently hesitating between this…
THANK YOU very much everybody for your very detailed reply!

It's gonna be the Blossom then due to it being lighter and having a more satisfying ending. I've been watching "Three Body" in parallel for a couple of weeks, and I love this drama but the atmosphere is really heavy and I'm not in the mood to add anything too heavy at present.

I'll probably start the double next year then :D Once I've finished both.

Thank you again for the links and the detailed replies, I really appreciate it.

Merry Christmas to everyone!!!!😆😆😆

Looking for a recommendation...
I have only the 25th to binge a series and I'm currently hesitating between this one and "The Double".
Also is it 34 or 30 episodes? Viki lists only 30 episodes...

Anyway, I'm going to sleep, hoping somebody who has seen both dramas tell which one they prefer by the time I wake up ( I'll watch them both eventually, it's just that I have ONE DAY, so I really want to watch a maximum of episodes of one of them even though I know I won't be able to finish them entirely in a single day.)

Lol. I've banned so many people that personally every comment section has become pretty peaceful ^^ But overall,…
I get you. Kim Hye Yoon has been a fave of mine since her Extraordinary You days... Took 5 years to finally get off the ground thanks to Lovely Runner but luck unfortunately is also part of the deal when you're an artist..

Don't think there's gonna be any hype... Competition has been tough on the weekend slot this year... They'd probably…
Ah sorry, I didn't get it that way. Well personally I'm pretty confident it's going that way with a bit more angst down the road though... But the dynamic between the characters is giving off the same vibe and it's one of the thing I really loved with that show... which I've noticed... I've not rated as high as I enjoyed it back then... so I'm off to rerate it.

More than just watching it I'm also kinda checking how some things have changed since Sungkyunkwan Scandal-era.…
Don't think there's gonna be any hype... Competition has been tough on the weekend slot this year... They'd probably would have done better if they aired that one on mondays and tuesdays... Way less competition and that can allow your drama to be noticed. Look at what happened with Lovely Runner. Even The Tale of Lady Ok is struggling to get attention in spite of the big budget and all the promotion that's been going on for months.

Well the drama is not serious anyway. The whole premise is completely ridiculous in the first place so I don't…
It's cool you know, them voicing that this particular details threw them off doesn't play or diminish your personal enjoyment of the series. They can express their opinion. I just personally don't understand the point of speaking about such details for something that is already sold as being unrealistic in the first place.

Things are sure interesting. I really want to know who that Innkeeper is and why hasn't she aged in 12 years.…
Honestly personal experience... your face doesn't change that much between the age of 25 and 40 if you don't overexpose yourself to the sun... I could even argue up to your 50s ( I'm not yet at that age so time will tell). That's not to say there's no sign of aging but honestly it really depends on the person. My mom started to get visible wrinkles only when she got in her mid-fifties. Before, honestly I wouldn't say she looked twenty but it was very difficult to pintpoint how old she was.

for those criticizing the use of glass cups and other modern elements in this drama, it's important to remember…
Well the drama is not serious anyway. The whole premise is completely ridiculous in the first place so I don't really understand why we should nitpick regarding historical accuracy for a kingdom that never existed in the first place.

Any drama with such a silly setting is happening in a parallel universe as far as I'm concerned, they could even have TV for all I care. Look at the Steampunk genre...

Now that's an idea that could be fun...

It is the first time in a while where i see such a peaceful comment section in mydramalist. I might be wrong but…
Lol. I've banned so many people that personally every comment section has become pretty peaceful ^^ But overall, this drama is less followed. It's sad but dramas that are not viral tend to be those with the best comment section.

But true. Seeing Hoya was a nice surprise. Too bad he's one of the antagonist but It's been such a long time that I've seen either Kim Min Jung and him, that I'm just very happy to see them.

Please! Tell me the title of the drama you are talking about! Maybe I understood...
Yeah... truly sad for them... They've got another drama coming up... and I like them... But I don't trust their company anymore so if they ever have another project in which they're both the leads, I'm gonna wait for people to watch it and check if it's not a complete waste of time before I bother to give their next series a try.

Lol... Curious?
I had to look it up my own list by checking another drama these actors acted in... This drama has been such a trauma it wiped both actors and its name from my memory.
Anyway "Sunset X Vibes" starring MosBank

Poom is gonna be back?
So excited!!! Please let it come out next year!
Btw, who's Kari and who's Wayu? I'm guessing Kari is Up and Wayu is Poom but it would be nice if it was the opposite just to have a different dynamic from My Stand In.

As I was watching the trailer I was thinking... My GOD do I even bother? I love BossNoeul, but there's just no way I'm watching another typical University BL...
BUT the end of the trailer... Gotta admit it picked my interest.
It's MAME so... err. Let's just say I'm trying to keep my expectations as low as possible...
But I've been missing BossNoeul. It feels like forever since Love in the Air so I'll definitely check this one out though I'm gonna remain careful. I've been cheated recently by another BL that shouldn't be named which promised some mistery/fantasy element that just weren't there for at least half of it ( dropped it so dunno for the end but from what I read in other comments, not so much).

Anyone know where to find the novel?
MEB.
It's a thai app available in English. That's usually where you'll find literally any book in thai... I've bought the Thai version but I don't know if there's an English version available... In the past 2 years, there's been lots of English translations of thai novels (mostly BLs)... but the quality really varies A LOT. If there's an English translation, I would advise you read a sample before buying the book. I've bought a couple of translated thai novels and apart from the first volume of Kinnporsche which was translated by Bible who is a native English speaker, all the translations I've read were pretty horrible and not worth their price.

This drama does have that "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" vibe. Even their costumes resemble those of the 2010s drama.
I enjoyed the second episode way more than the first. I do think there's an extra something missing from the show, to really give it a "wow effect"... Can't really put my finger on it... But for now I'm hopeful. The ML was more likeable in this episode than in the first one... but it's probably because everybody finds him ridiculous with his pompous air and I really like Kim Ji Eun in that role. She's boyish enough to fit in so, apart from the fact that she's pretty short and has delicate hands for those who really pay attention, she just looks like a cute boy who is acting a bit over the top to show she's "manlier" than the rest of them.

However, is the casting right? Kim Min Jung is listed as a "guest" character when her role is very important in the plot and she's appeared significantly in both first episodes. Seems to me there's been a mistake. Han Jae Suk is probably the "guest" and Kim Min Jung the "support character", just sayin'
On Check in Hanyang Dec 22, 2024
Ok. That was a typical Sageuk first episode. Nothing new under the sun but solid enough. Kim Ji Eun looks pretty convincing as a boy ( because I can't say she looks like a man for sure), way more than lots of actresses I've seen playing males so that's a plus.
The way she acts is reminiscent of her role in Love Next Door which aired earlier, so I'm pretty sure she's gonna rock it since she knows how to play the boyish rowdy type like a charm. Anyway, I find her quirkiness and resourcefulness pretty charming. She's a character easy to root for whatever she intends to do in that inn.

Park Jae Han... Seems to play the same type of character since "Semantic Error"... He does the "quiet straight A" type well, but I'm a bit tired to see him always act the same way... Nothing against his performance... It's just that I wish we had another actor and he changed a bit his formula. He's starting to get really typecasted and I personally find it tyring.

The only drama I saw Jung Gun Joo as a main character was in "Extraordinary You" and it's been years but I like him in this. I'm hoping he's our love rival because he has a way better dynamic than the ML with the FL (Please make the ML jealous as fudge, he deserves it).

So far the ML is... not my favorite. It's gonna be interesting to see how they can make him likeable because for now, he gets -10 in the likeability department. You get his motivations but his behavior sucks overall. That will probably make his trajectory more interesting down the road but for the moment he just irritates me every time he interacts with the FL.
GIRL MAKE HIM SUFFER!

Anyway, that was my long 2 cents.

Basically, classic plot but enjoyable nonetheless, so I'll be sticking with this one... I do have some fears that are tied to Sageuks in general notably the fact that lots of them tend to become overly dramatic by the end... and given the backstory of this one... can't say it didn't cross my mind... BUT gender-bender is my ultimate favorite trope so as long as the series is mostly fun, I'll forgive whatever dramatic cryfest comes our way by episode 12.

40mn in... Gotta sleep.
Enjoying this introduction. Hating the character of Bae in Hyuk at the moment which means he's going to be the one pinning for the FL and suffering the most down the road so I'm here for it :D
I'm guessing the "introduction phase" is gonna take 2 episodes so I'm expecting things to really start to get interesting next week ^^ Per K-drama rules, the FL probably has some tragic back story to be so set on becoming inn master... Hope that doesn't drag down the drama in later episodes.

OH! Sweet! Thanks for the link!

EDIT: The "angst level" is a nice touch. For me anything below the "level 4 angst" is not worth it in terms of "gender bender". Not that the drama is bad, just that I'm flushing my "gender bender hope" down the toilet...

Title Check in Hanyang Spoiler
A commenter once said the reason that is filmed that way is because of China's laws against homosexuality.. So…
Out of these three, the King's affection is my favorite ( I mean Ro Woon :D And that's all I have to say) but in terms of convincing performance for the FL I think Park Min Young was better in Sungkyunkwan Scandal in all three dramas... Yoon Eun Hye in Coffee Prince is still the best for me, though .

I read years ago that some people were dissatisfied with how Sungkyunkwan Scandal turned out to be because the original novels were more romantic apparently. So I'm really curious about how the romance progressed in that one especially since there's so many books so the drama was probably a very very shortened version of the original story.
I've bought them years ago... I think there's 4 or 5 books in total, not really sure... Since I bought them in Korean and I couldn't read them back then ( I still can't though or rather I can with a VERY HEAVY use of a dictionnary), I've stored them somewhere. Will look for them at some point because I'm DEFINITELY going to read them :D

Anyway, I think I'm gonna wait a bit before starting this one. I've already got my obsession level full with "When the Phone Rings" at present, I don't want to add another drama on top of that one to torture myself...
Or so I say, but I'm not really sure I'll manage to resist.
