Personally I thought I recognized the woman who threw herself in front of Great's car in episode 1.

Yeah well the technical term for "stress" in English is "Accent tonique" in French ^^ and as you mentioned "intonation" is something else^^

I wouldn't say French is monotone per say ( it's my mother tongue as well)... In French, when you stress words it's because you want to put some emphasis on the word itself. For instance if I say " C'est CHaud" I'm stressing the Ch because of my intent. However "chaud" as a word has no stress whatsoever.

In Korean you have the same things. If I say 맛있어 - Mashisseo - Tastes good. I can say: 맛있써 - MashiSSeo to imply that it's really good and show my appreciation but the words itself is "flat".

In English, the stress is integral to the word itself. JaPAN is always said JaPAN whether you want to put some emphasis on the word or not.
It doesn't mean there is no intonation in English but it's on top of the imbedded stresses in the word. I hope it's clearer now.

Hmm.... If you say Constitution in English you say ConstiTUtion.
If you say Japan... You say JaPAN. CHOcolate, LItterature, CoMMUnity etc.

In Korean, Spanish or French there is no such thing as long syllables/short syllables + no stresses on syllables. So mastering pronounciation + the switching between long and short syllables + the stresses on top of clearly understanding everything so that you make a pose at a "natural place in the sentence" is a headache for non-native speakers.

When words are short, it's usually on the first syllable. However in a sentence, small grammatical words are usually not stressed unless you want to make a point eg: blablablablabla BUT blablablablabla

There's a couple of rules to know where to place them, but so many exceptions that it's useless to learn them. Basically it takes lots of listening to native speakers to get the stresses down and a couple of years of practice.

Yeah I always wonder for these types of dialogues if they ask for people who are fluents or Koreans who have learned the language.

Now for the accent, it's actually pretty ok from both sides. The main issue... is more the "stresses" on words. English puts "stresses" on some syllables in each word at different places... I don't know if native speakers realize this or talk about it in school... When your own mother tongue doesn't have stresses: Korean, French, Spanish etc... getting the pronunciation right is one thing, but the stresses are the hardest part. If the pronunciation is perfect but stresses are absent, unless the people talking are speaking very slowly, which wasn't the case here, it's difficult to distinguish separate words.

Anyway, compared to most K dramas I've seen, I thought it was pretty ok. Some parts were harder than others but overall, It was okayish.

There's ENG SDH subs. I switched to those for the English speaking parts personally. Like you, I just couldn't understand what they were saying. The English was... err... not so good ( but I've heard way worse in other dramas so...). If you speak another language, you can also just switch to those.
EDIT: I finally came across the part where we meet Seok Ryu's former colleague but I'm sorry, his English is better than Jung So Min's. Hope we've finished with the English now that that part's done though.

Oho.. I spoiled myself the preview for next week and we're finally getting there ^^But I hope the "misunderstanding" is just a red flag from the writers in the preview. Today's episode looks veeeeeeeeeery good for the romance lovers out there if the videos available on tvn youtube channel are any indications. 😁😁😁

Among the "darkest" BLs from GMMTV so I'll be tuning in. Also, I love Ohm. He's one of the best actor they've got so there's also that. For the rest we'll see. Looks a bit too "cute" for my taste but I haven't watched a GOOD "cute" BL in a while so I'll give it a try ( I've watched plenty of bad ones though).
On Ready, Set, Love Aug 25, 2024
Overall liked it but I struggled with some of the goofiness by the time I reach the end... I wished they had tuned down the cartoonish acting a bit at least for the 2 final episodes since the story called for it. That made the show feel a bit disjointed by the end in my opinion... But for such a short show, they did a good job.
Ultimately though... the show could have been much much more then what it offered。 Instead of spending all that time on badly written games, I wish they had dived a bit more into the distopian aspect of that world. This prevented me from giving this show more than 7.5.
I doubt we'll get a second season since no announcement has been made since it came out... and it's been over six months. But even so, it's a good conclusion albeit a bittersweet one.
If by a remote chance, they do a second season...I'll be tuning in... as long as we get more into City Ground and their fight against the Supreme and not for the silly games.

Si t'as pas aimé les 5 premiers épisodes... Je peux déjà te garantir que tu vas galérer sur les suivant...…
T'as bien raison ça sert à rien de forcer...

Identify as well. On some level. Had a dream... For several reasons didn't follow through. After a lot of zigzags…
So true. When you're 18, you're fed that illusion that once you've finished school, you get a job and then your life is set... when in fact lots of us are going to take some detours at some point, it's way harder when you're older but at the end of the day, it's all about building a healthy life and space for yourself. I've seen too many people afraid of changing their lives yet always complaining, being bitter and in the worse case scenario, taking anti-depressants to get by.

I identify with Seok Ryu so much, I went into IT at first because it seemed like the thing to do, the company…
Identify as well. On some level. Had a dream... For several reasons didn't follow through. After a lot of zigzags ended up becoming a civil servant. But soon realized I hated what I did and hated my life for that matter. That was... in my late 20s. Decided to change my life to pursue my original dream... It took close to 10 years to get enough money on the side to make the jump all the while studying on my own and working full time ( no time for private life).
Finally quit a bit less than 2 years ago... Still not making money... readjusting expectations, progression is slow, life's harder and savings are melting like an ice cream left under the sun and so on and so forth. Still not out of the anxiety bubble but still don't regret my decision.

By my age, people are usually married with kids, the dog and the house.
But I decided to change my life at 28 and it's tough when you can't rely on parents and you're not filthy rich. You can't just slam the door and begin elsewhere. So it took some preparations. Still on my journey. Curious to see where Seok Ryu is going to end up at the end of hers'.

We don't eat Jambon-beurre at breakfast in France guys! It's with REAL BREAD not dinner bread and it's for lunch, because it's cheap, it's fast, you can buy it in any "boulangerie" and it's ideal when your lunch break is short.
Also I know we literally eat everything with forks and knives but come on'. Bread is always eaten with hands even in a country where pizzas are eaten with forks and knives ( for the record it depends of the place and the thickness of the dough, often in France at least, the dough is too thin for a slice of pizza to be held with your hands so it's actually easier to eat it with cutlery).

But whatever I guess ^^

Personally, I have no problem with one of the lead characters being single their whole life once in a while, but…
Hmm... It's seem to be more of a recent trend than anything. I might be mistaken but the old rom com's pre 2010s at least had pretty much the same pattern of the dude being rich and handsome and having this girl and then that girl, until finally he met the "pure girl" who was so hardworking she had no time to date whatsoever and fell in love with her. Or he would have gone out with lots of girls ( usually all the while being an asshole) because his heart belonged to his long lost love - who obviously remained single her whole life because she's a girl and has to be the virgin one - and when finally he reunited with his long lost love, all the former girlfriends he screwed over were considered the "toxic ex girlfriend" who ultimately became stalkers . Because of course, these women were worthless, HE was the price and girls would fight over him and the "pure girl" was lucky that Mr rich and handsome was literally obsessed with her( obsessed in the word).

You always got the rich, handsome, tsundere or playfull attitude which hid a wounded heart you would heal because you were the only one who saw it... as long as YOU REMAINED PURE.

Dramas from the early 2000s often had that thing that NO SEX was allowed for girls because you know automatic pregnancy and then forced marriage: Delighful Girl Choon Hyang, Wonderful Life for instance.

Ultimately this trope is occasionally still used but since audience have changed and girls are no longer as forgiving towards that type of characters, the "learning curve" from the ML is steeper and more difficult to write. When before it was a question of "boys will be boys, they'll settle down at some point" and the price for the girl would be "get the guy"... Modern audience are not so forgiving.

For once, women/girls got REALLY tired of seeing women on TV fighting over a guy. That just doesn't happen in real life. Depictions of women backstabbing each other is far removed from reality where most of us get along pretty well. Also if the dude goes out with many women, no woman is stupid enough to think he's gonna stick. Two-timer a day, two-timer every day.

In old k dramas you would have this usual quadrangle: ML is a stud and rich in love with poor "pure" FL who has always been single or occasionally a boyfriend with a very platonic relationship ( no sex before marriage). 2nd FL is a former girlfriend of ML or fiancé of ML or childhood supposed sweetheart. Sees the FL as a rival and comes up with lots of crazy plans to separate FL and ML - plans often involves faking an illness or threatening to commit suicide if ML doesn't get back to her, also comes up with lots of lies she tells the ML's family members and usually suck up to ML's mother because ML is always a Mama's boy.
2ML is always supporting the FL. He doesn't fight overtly for her nor does he backstabs like the 2FL. He might clash on occasion with the ML but he's a good guy unlike the 2FL who is almost always a b***

Yeah... I'm glad that trend has ended. It's dead in the water and probably never coming back.

So to me it's more a matter of, we're getting things a bit balanced currently. We've moved more to another form of extreme but it'll get balanced at some point ( but dude's gotta be rich, that's never going to change).
However romance k dramas overall are still mostly tailored for women by women, so that may be frustrating on occasion for male viewers though.

EDIT to post:

Btw I personally didn't assume anything regarding the ML in this drama or any drama for that matter. You can't really assume anything unless we're at least past the middle of said shows. I was just answering the post.

Glad to finally be able to watch this legally, too bad they did it so late in the game but maybe they'll learn from this in the future. Cuz obviously most of us used illegal means to watch episode 1 to 4 so unless we have time to rewatch, they've lost legal audience at least for the first 4 episodes + those of who are going to stick to watch this on illegal platforms. ( Btw I'm definitely going to rewatch this show a couple of months after the final episode because I'm sure there's lots of details I've missed and this show is just SO GOOD)

Anyway I find Fa and Korn's couple to be a really good one. Shitty people must stick together.
Korn is really his father's son. He's all loving as long as you do what he wants but as soon as you don't act according to his wishes he turns against you. Tonkla was too innocent for this piece of filth. Unfortunately, for the few glimpses of him we saw in this episode... when nice people are trampled on too much they can turn pretty nasty.

Now I'm wondering if we're not in some sort of endless loop that is rebooted everytime Great "dies" (or not) at the hospital and the clock's minutes indicates the number of loops that Great has gone through.

If we consider that Great can only survive for 4 minutes, maybe he's got 4 chances to put his life in order. Given we saw 11:03 at some point in the episode and he ended up being sent to the hospital... My new theory is, the last 3 episodes are going to be 11.04 hence his last chance to save himself... Or maybe for Thyme to save him this time?

He got shot at 11:00 AM. Got his first loop at 11:01, second at 11:02 and the one we've seen this episode at 11:03.

If I go back to my very long former post, that would mean that so far we've seen Tonkla in loop 11:01 when Dome gets killed... I'll have to rewatch the first few episodes to confirm because I'm sure the clock was already featured at that time but I didn't really pay attention. Too bad I don't have time to do so 😑😑😑

I don't know. I'm going to stop trying to rationalize this series lol. I still don't think Great is all that great of a person himself ( yeah I can't get past the fact that he had Title of all people as a friend, for me that tells a lot about him. Also the laughing when you learn your "friend" is sequestrating a woman seriously?)... But given his power and money-hungry family, he seems to be the most grounded. But obviously as mentioned by Thyme, easy for him since he reaps the benefits without getting his hands dirty.

Wonderful family btw. They ruin other people's life for their " family" yet as soon as a member of said family tells them the ugly truth, he's treated like enemy n°1. I have no empathy for these people.

Also wasn't it Title who followed Thyme in the hospital? I'm not really sure about that one, but I thought I recognized him and then they showed Great's Dad and lackeys at Thyme's home so is it just me?

Anyway, I LOVE THIS SHOW. I'm glad we're finally moving away from "BLs" being a genre in itself and instead simply having good stories that just happen to have gay characters as leads.

I wish they gave us a preview though... The wait is excruciating each week.

Dunno if this film is genuinely better than the first one or because it's been years since I last saw the first movie and even the 1st two seasons of the anime ( haven't finished it yet) but I liked this movie better.

Still didn't like it though. It's silly and over the top and I knew what I was getting in but just like in the first movie, I wish they had toned down Fujiwara Chika for the live action because I just think her air-headedness just doesn't fit the medium. She ruined the first movie for me... and she ruined that one as well.

No hate towards the actress. In fact she's playing the character perfectly but I wish again she'd been toned down because for me it works in an anime but not a live action. Even Iino Miko despite engaging in the same silliness is less irritating...

Still pondering between a between a 5 and 6... But would probably had been higher without Chika.

I honestly don't care how people enjoy the drama. I'm just saying some people are going to look for something they won't find because it's not there apart from people who "see beyond" as you're hinting at but again it's more a matter of I'll see what I want to see. As for the rest, yes it's censored. That's the whole point of censoring so why was it still removed. That's were is my question.
For the rest I'm not arguing with anybody. I'm just saying I disagree that's it. No need to argue further.

Dropped after 3 episodes. Looks like a lot of American shows in the same genre: Great CGIs but without any soul. Also hints at a 3rd season which will never come (spoiled myself the second part/season to see if it would get better) ... Anyway dissapointing. If you're a fan of the horror genre with some mysterious atmosphere, Watch Revenant or The Guest. Way WAY ABOVE that one.

This being said Lee Da Hee and Cha Eun Woo's stylists deserve a raise. They both look amazing. Too bad the drama is just "meh".
