In some cultures, this kind of cousin is actually called brother-by-aunt (if their fathers were birth brothers they would be called brothers-by-uncle) so yes, they are not only cousins but brothers, although I really don't think this is a bromance because of that.
He likes to play complex characters and to truly showcase his talent I would love for this story to give him that opportunity. But even if it is mildly put straightforward character, I am sure he will deliver quiet performance like that in The King and the Clown.
