Honestly, I am not vested in it. I am watching PA now with understanding they had to change the story because they did not purchase the adaptation rights, so I think I will put all of this on hold because it is not entertaining enough at this point

oh yes. the disappointment group is strong and growing. I can see why it's difficult to be honest about this drama: there are too many factors contributing to it being poorly received. I for one like to compare the drama to the novel or previous production, but if this is the first thing watched then I would at least like to know what I am watching before deciding why it's not of interest. out of 5 things that I pay attention to (story/script, characters/acting, directing/editing, ost/CGI/cinematography, emotional/educational value) this is falling short on 3 already 😵‍💫🤦

in the way they remade some of PA and show it here in flashbacks. but the overall effect is rather underwhelming. big stars do not make a good drama. cinematography doesn't either.

and that in itself is a problem with this adaptation: it does not show sufficiently the whys of each character. a drama (stand-alone or not advertised as sequel or remake) should be either explicit in showing us the details of the past (flashbacks) or providing enogh on screen action that leads us toward understanding the characters. for someone who is not familiar with the novel or PA this could be frustrating. to me it means lazy directing and editing. 😑

yea, I watched more than few dramas just to see what the child actress with 10 years of posing in front of the camera accomplished and I am rather disappointed. if she has talent, I don't seem to notice. her characters are played pretty much the same way. there are cute actresses that do the same in majority of the roles (Esther Yu, Yang Zi) but even Esther can deliver bone chilling performance when given a chance. this kid does not yet.

I really appreciate your comments, I had them when watching PA so much that I think I am going to read the novel before watching this. I agree on literally all points you make about the quality of writing this fl character through historical reality of such portrayal to the acting/suitability of the young actress and not a young looking actress who has lifetime experiences to back her embodying of two personas: the original transmigtator with her baggage plus the journey of the little girl who ended up a slave and then military commander. not sure yet how I feel about this but it looks awesome

I did not read the novel so just wonder about the whole world she rules. these are spirits born out of obsession. not souls, just cultivated obsessions turned spirits, as such they are still delusional in their drive to be the sovereign, meaning her, who is part spirit (father) part immortal (human origin) so what is her obsession??? mortality??? human world??? or not feeling??? she goes to the mortal world frequently enough and flirts with mortals for a reason, so how is she different from her subjects other than magic she yields? but I agree. this is 💯 romance about two species that cannot live in each other's worlds. somebody will have to let go
