Thank you for pointing this out because I have been asking the same questions and people have been slamming me for not understanding the FL. To put it plainly, she married the ML reluctantly for the room and so that her brother could come back and marry. She always considered this marriage as a temporary situation and a transaction. Of course she could not have gotten away with this bull shit if she had married Ye Fang.
She was lucky that ML liked her enough to make so many sacrifices . She clearly would not have married the ML if he was not able to get the room.
