As before, I have to give the writers their credit. As crappy a job they seem to be doing since reuniting JA with EA/EH, Ep73 did the EH/HY arc right. From the beginning, when he first saw her with SW and the way his arm went limp with the roses, and then dropping them on the ground, to the scene at the cafe where he loved her too much to embarrass her by calling her out for lying, to the end where they both go home...it was 10/10. Even the part where he was drinking by himself in the cold, and after imagining her there briefly.. he FINALLY realized "I can't do this anymore". Just really good, including the choice of BGM. I've known guys like EH, where they just have to be kicked in the teeth repeatedly to finally get the message; so for me, although frustrating, this wasn't unrealistic.
And that long shot of the rose bouquet lying on the sidewalk was perfection.
So again, I ask: How is it that they can come up with wonderful scenes like this and they are so few and far between? In TRHC I used to joke that the show was written by 2 teams of writers, one good, the other bad and they'd take turns writing episodes. Here, it's on more of a micro-level - we get a great scene and then its a desert of "I could care less" scenes stretching on for multiple episodes.
Well, thankfully EH finally came around. It's not easy at times to do the right thing in relationships. He escaped being her spare ("break-glass- in-need") boyfriend. They can finally move on to the next stage of their relationship. This should have happened 20 episodes ago, though, but it alleviates at least some of my frustration with this show. Bring on the Serial Killer!
I think her acting was much better in Bravo my Life, than this one. It is all over the place in this drama, but…
Agreed! Her character in BML (Seo DongHee) was written consistently as a strong & fierce would-be mom who cared for and protected her child. ES, here, is not like that at all - her character is all over the place. I guess this is because they are trying to play her for 'laughs' at times?
BML still stands tall for me as the benchmark for daily dramas. I thought SangJi and Yang Byeong Yeol should have gotten Couple of the Year back in 2022; they were great together (they even sat next to each other at the 2022 KBS Awards last year).
Guysss our pretty NSJ just won an award for ES! Hopefully, she and LDG win a couple award next year since this…
"Excellence Award (Female) - Daily Drama" Thanks for the heads-up, Roo!!! She got all glammed up for the ceremony and is really pretty (search Twitter under her name for pics)
Jeez, what a mess. If only the Korean Police Officers Assn would file a complaint with the producers because they…
OOPS - I got distracted from my initial point on EH. At this point, he should tell HY he saw her at the cafe with her target, and that they can no longer be friends. It's the clean way to end that 'never-went-anywhere' relationship before it started. But NO, he's going to go nuclear (based on the preview) and confess his feelings for her. SIGH. Why??? If he had to do that, then on his way out the door, he should turn to her and say, "it's really a shame, because I really did like you, and not just as a friend. I hoped from more from our being together..." then walk out the door and don't look back.
Jeez, what a mess. If only the Korean Police Officers Assn would file a complaint with the producers because they are making Korea's detectives look dumb. And BTW, I was about to throw my shoe at the TV when ONCE AGAIN, they pull the distracting cel-fone call that pulled JA away from the table when EH walked by and saw SW/HY. I'm so tired of this stupid, worn-out plot device. It would have been a HELL OF A LOT more interesting if EH saw his mom with those 2. Think of the directions they could have gone in! But there seems to be little interest in thinking outside-the-box with this bunch.
We are less than 10 eps away from the 2/3 mark of the series, and the touted relationship between EH & HY hasn't happened. What on Earth??? Are they really going to do a last-minute rush in the last month of the series?
I can only guess we got a taste of the "wild, hilarious" aspect in 71 with SJ's reaction to ES/SW. At least I assume it was to pass for comedy, given the childish/wacky background music (BGM) played in that scene.
The only good thing was the return of the upbeat "Oh Christmas Tree" BGM at the coffee shop.
I know, "Bitch, Bitch, Bitch". Sorry folks. We get 2 days respite from this nonsense. YAYYYY
I'm sticking with my theory that this show is being seen thru SJ's eyes, and we're actually watching the screenplay she's written and will have accepted by the network.
IF they were really clever, they'd have an extended epilogue, where the show ends, and they pull back showing the set and the actors on it. SJ walks out (it's a completely different woman - the REAL SJ) and thanks everyone for their hard work, and she turns to her family, who is made up of completely different actors and everyone smiles (and they could throw in the real JA & CY hissing "we STILL don't think they looked like us".) I think that would be fun.
Otherwise, I still have no idea what this show is, or why I'm even watching it.
Hopefully, SJ sides with ES in the end - I think ES will be the mutual bond between all the siblings against JA.…
Plus, of course, she'll find out that EH was stood up, and she'll curse out the woman that stood her up (not realizing that she actively had a role in that). In basketball, this is known as "telegraphing your plays", where you are going to make a surprise play, but everyone realizes what you're up to and they can foil it. The writers are making things so obvious now, it gets more sad to watch every episode.
